I was reading about the game and it said if you run through trees your deer slows down temporarily. So I think the blue cloud means that your deer lost some of it's speed.
hehe that also confused me when i first started to play the game 8D at the beginning i even avoid to run into a tree, because i thought it would go like "'BAM!' - headache for alice".... it took some time (and observation ) until i finally got that you can walk _through_ them xD
