While sitting in my car waiting for time to go to work, I listened to the first track of a CD I got from my trip to the Grand Canyon. The band is called Burning Sky and they are native flute music. While listening, my mind wandered, I saw the desert we visited in Arizona and New Mexico on the trip, and saw a creature running endlessly. Not a deer, pronghorn, or goose...but a coyote.
What was he trying to tell me as I watched him run? He was not hunting or pursuing anything, just running through the wild desert.
I remember hearing once that the coyote was a
storyteller much like myself. Maybe another totem of mine like the deer and goose...
I later got to meet him while having time to think at work. He sat on a small hill, waiting for me. I asked, "What do you represent?", and he replied with a riddle, "What do dreamers do?"
I stupidly answered, "Dream?"
He chuckled and said, "Clever, but no. They aspire."
"So you represent aspiration?", I asked him.
"Bingo.", he replied. "I know you have the generosity of the deer and the loyalty of the goose, but do you have a coyote's aspiration?", he asked me. Before I could answer, he turned and jumped off of the hill, running quickly into the distance.
I will dream of him again tonight and see if he has any more words or clarification for me, but I'm curious about him. I've had totems come and go before - snakes and dolphins for the longest protected me before I found goats and deer.
Maybe the coyote is another protector.
In any event, I do lack aspiration. He is absolutely right, and maybe this was a wake-up call to do my best to get my goals done.
He was telling me to aspire.
