Nightmares

Roll around, Roll around in your grave; a bed? I laugh, it's the place you'll die you know, more than likely, assuming you're lucky.

Natural Music (Return to Nature)

Hey guys, I had a question for you:

For those who have been reading my Return to Nature stories, while you are reading any particular chapter do you ever feel like a song is playing in your head? Or have you read them to music? Is there any songs that make you think of this series?

If so, then out of curiosity, what songs do you think fit the story? It can relate to one story or the entire series itself, and of course can be any kind of music at all.

Thanks for any feedback, my plan with this is maybe to get a little more inspiration for future RtN stories. You may not know but I often am inspired by music. Many of my previous stories were inspired by songs, especially bands like Shinedown and Nickelback, but also others such as Enigma.

The only song that really comes to mind for me is "Return to Innocence" by Enigma

The Meadow!!

I open my eyes to fresh dawn shining through the spring leaves of the birch trees. The early 'kaa's' of the near-by raven and 'cooing' of the morning doves travel to my ears on a warm slight breeze. I'm the last in the small herd I'm traveling with to stir after our long rest. I stretch my tired legs and hurry to where the the adults are gathering up the group of young fawns I've played with for the last couple days. They're romping around excitedly in the aromas of the forest flowers between the circle of gathered elders. Something seems to be floating in the air, a kind of excitement. Even the adults look enthused for the days events. I quickly join in the celebration of whatever the day has in store, and prance into the fun, rearing up in the youthful play. After a couple pretend sparring matches with my fellow fawns, the adults signal that they are ready to start moving. Bummed that I didn't have time for a quick dance, I sulk into the rear position of the moving herd, but no sooner forget as my playful friends fill me once again with excitement! We run abound on the moss floor, weaving between the stern moving adults and shooting beneath their massive bodies. We even begin to make games of dodging the falling leaves and floating dogwood fuzz. I was just coming out of a patch of clovers chasing one of the other fawns when I ran smack dead into the lower legs of one of the big deer. Rolling backwards and looking up I saw the unmoved muscular legs and hind quarter of a very large, red-pelted deer. He turned his head slowly around and looked down disapprovingly. I shuddered back in fear, quivering at the magnificently monstrous figure and huge antlers that sit upon his head, but he quickly reached down to nuzzle me and let me know I was okay. Before I could return any affection the running fawns around me caught my attention. I watched as they ran into a grand opening before them, bleating and kicking their joy.

Return to Nature - Story VIII

Return to Nature Index

Another day passes and you come home. You strangely aren't hungry this afternoon, and decide to take a nap in your bed. You awake in what seems like a moment and find yourself in a dense jungle. The bed you had been sleeping on had become a great boulder. You stand and look around, noticing a lone path leading away from where you were. Instinctively, you follow it.

You eventually come to a cliffside, where you meet your deer once again. "Are you ready to see something that has been untouched by modern humans?", they ask. You nod curiously, "Show me.", you say.

The deer turns, placing their hoof in a little groove on the cliffside. It seems to fit perfectly, and emits a great light when they remove it. A large portion of the cliff suddenly disintegrates, revealing an old cavern that had not seen daylight in a long time.

"It looks dark in there.", you say. Your deer looks to you, "Hold out your hand.", they say. You do so, and the deer closes their eyes, "Grant us light so we may see the dark.", they pray. At once, you watch as a glowing orb of light appears on your hand. "Whoa...", you say. The deer nods, "Let's go.", they reply.

You lead, entering into the cave. It seems somewhat musty, but the ground is solid and looks like it has been naturally carved. Your deer follows, their pictogram illuminating the place as well. The tunnel continues for a little while, and you notice stalactites and stalagmites that rise from the ceiling and floor. You turn to your deer, "What if it caves in on us?", you ask. The deer smiles, "Don't worry, it won't. You're safe here.", they reply.

The two of you soon find a great chamber. It fills you with absolute wonder, and the orb of light leaves your hand and floats to the center, growing brighter and illuminating the entire place.

Somewhere Beautiful {Aeros. I'm quite proud of this, for now.}

[=10](Please click this first. If someone could tell me how to get a music player for this, that would be lovely.)

Aeros awoke in a field and knew something had changed. There were no such places like these in the Forest – the canopy blocked the sun’s rays there, dappling the ground in light. Here, the glow was only offset by the clouds – there were no trees as far as he could see. Hills rolled gently upwards around him, and small piles of rocks dotted the landscape. The large stag lifted his head – something which further startled him, as in the Forest, his massive antlers often forced him to keep his neck low. A gentle breeze ruffled through his fur, and he looked around the landscape slowly, wondering what on earth he was witnessing.

It was then that he caught site of two bodies making their way down one of the gentle slopes. They were much larger than he, but still, the grass almost reached their ankles, swaying rhythmically. He recognized them immediately. Ah. So, this is the place they call home. Perhaps. With only minor difficulty, Aeros hoisted himself to his feet and carefully made his way towards the pair of deer. Their faces were almost expressionless, with calm eyes and the slightest of smiles. The old stag bowed his head automatically upon reaching them. “What is this place?”

Our home. In reality, so much more, but it is where we reside. The female, her coat a mix of scarlet and cherry, lifted her head slightly to feel the breeze as it once again passed through. How do you feel?

He paused, looking down at the ground, realizing the gravity of the change. “I…I suppose I feel…younger. My bones don’t ache. I’ve plenty of energy. Is this-?“

Return to Nature - Story VII

Return to Nature Index

The next day comes and goes slowly for you. You are eager to find out what your deer has planned for your next trip to their world.

You finally finish up your daily routines and lay back into your favorite chair. You close your eyes and hear the wind outside blow upon your house. When you open your eyes, you are sitting on a park bench.

You look around, finding yourself somewhere you never expected to be. You are at a man-made park, that overlooks a great ocean. You approach the water, hearing it lap up onto the concrete that separates the water from the land. You look off into the distance and see a great city, one you have never seen before. Skyscrapers climb and reach the clouds, and you can faintly hear the hustle and bustle of the city. You notice that no other humans are around you, yet you hear the sounds of squirrels and birds coming from the nearby park.

You then spot your deer, who is approaching from within the park. They greet you and look off at the city in the distance. "So, what do you think?", they ask.

"Well, I'm not familiar with this place, but it looks nice, I suppose.", you reply. The deer looks to you. "Nice? You do understand that none of this is natural, right?", they ask. "Well, yeah, but...", you begin to say, but looking back at the city, it does seem to sink in.

"Do you know what was there before the humans came and paved over it?", your deer asks. You shake your head. The stag looks back to the city, "There was a great place that once was there - a great marshland, and it was home to an old tribe of deer who protected the land and cleansed both the water and the air.", they say.

You don't know how to reply, so your deer keeps speaking, "Since then, the tribe vanished, and this happened. What once was a place of restoration has become a place of pollution.

Duty

Rot in the pit of your soul, and self loathing, until you have had to kill another man.
