Worked on this a few hours last night. Started as a sketch in my sketchbook, and then, against better judgment, decided to send it to my computer, and colour and spiff it up.
I
swear that she's a bit longer looking in the sketchbook, but then again, it could also be at the angle I had to photograph the sketch from. Y'know, shadows and all that.
Anyways, I've had this girl on the brain for a while, and I finally got the push to try and draw her last night. This is my Orca, Psyche. She was mainly born out of inspiration from listening to the song "Uprising," by Muse, and also from a National Geographic special about a pod of transient whales that were renowned Great White Shark hunters.
"M-51" is the name she was given by scientists who have been tracking/observing her pod. She's a Transient type, so she's a bit smaller than Resident types, and lives in a smaller pod. You can find some basic information about the ecotypes
here. And before anyone asks, yes I referenced the drawing.
I can imagine there's some confusion about the whole "eats sharks, harasser/tormentor of Alvaro," etc, so here's a brief explanation. Before I created Psyche, I was having a brief obsession with Great White Sharks, due to National Geographic's "Expedition : Great White." So one day, I just opened the sketchbook, and sketched a shark, and slapped a name on him; didn't give him much of a personality though. Anyways, a few weeks later when I created Psyche, I kinda imagined her not really hunting/eating Alvaro, but simply playing around and harassing him/torturing him. So...yeah. Welcome to my brain of contradictions.
Anyways, I've rambled on long enough about this crap, so....pfft.
