Brehach smiled faintly, watching as his fawn flitted to and fro across the meadow, first in front, then behind.
“How far is it? How much longer?” she piped.
He chuckled, his voice rumbling in his shaggy throat. “Just over the ridge darlin’.”
Her knobby legs tripped together as she skipped around him in circles. “What does it look like daddy?”
The red stag glanced at her in amusement. “Och ye’ll see it in a moment.” He sighed, content from his tines to hooves. Home. It was just over the ridge. “Not far lass, not far...”
