A Tale of Stone.

OkamiLugia's picture
A progression. I can't tell you how fast I will have it completed.

Ryuu had an encounter with Akuji, the Tar Beast.
The dragon-buck suffered a fatal wound.
As the blood drained from him, the vibrant green ribbons on his body began to turn brown.
Soon, his body nearly empty of the life-fluid, the ribbons slowly went from brown to gray.
Stone gray.

Now his entire body is stone.
What has happened to Ryuu?
Is he dead?
Can he hear you if you spoke?
Feel you if you touched?

It's impossible to say.
His statue will remain.
A pretty tribute to a sleeping dragon.
Stone can't possibly be alive.
Can it?

He lays upon the new grass
His body is solid stone.

You know how they say something is "stone cold"
They are likely referring to something lifeless.

Stone was made from fire.

We live upon stone.

And just beneath the surface...

Is fire.

The small green doe had stumbled upon her friend's now stone body while exploring. Alyx collapsed beside him, frantically nudging him, praying desperately that she was imagining this. "Ryuu, Ryuu, please," she sobbed, "Wake up, please! W-We need you!"

She would curl up against him and cry herself to sleep. What hurt most was that she had not gotten to say goodbye to one of the best friends she had ever had.

D: WHY DIDN'T I SEE THIS SOONER.

A black portal opens beside the sleeping statue. Soon enough, a light blue fuzzball of a deer steps out and sits beside Ryuu. "Ryuu... How did I not see this coming sooner?" Though spoken in the monotone of a nobody, his words almost feel as though there is the gravity of a complete being speaking. He doesn't seem inclined to leave any time soon. Not from the side of one of his select few friends...

((Gah sorry for my lateness, muse was being a bitch ;o; ))

"Oi! Ryuu!"
The gemsbok frowned, her calls having gone unanswered. It wasn't like her best friend to just go missing without a word and frankly Kusa was growing increasingly worried. Furrowing her brow, she continued to trudge through the birch.
"Beanpole! Ryuu!" She called out again, her ears perking to catch any sound of an answer. There was only silence. "Where is he?" Kusa grumbled under her breath, continuing to walk deeper into the forest.
Suddenly, she had a strange foreboding feeling come over her. The gemsbok came to a halt, her ears perking and swiveling as she tried to pinpoint what exactly the feeling was. It wasn't danger, that much she knew. Cautiously, Kusa pressed on. She came upon a clearing and that is when she discovered just what her feeling was.
Laying amongst the grass was Ryuu. At first, Kusa didn't recognize him in his stone state but the longer she stared the more it grew clear to her what had befallen her friend. She felt her breath catching in her throat, the world beginning to spin around her at an increasing rate. The gemsbok stumbled closer, her eyes wide in horror. This couldn't be real, it couldn't be! Yet, there was doubt within her mind that was not imagining things or dreaming. This was reality.

"Ryuu!"

With a choked sob, Kusa collapsed by the dragon buck's side. She laid her head over him, her body quaking with the force of her sobs and tears streaming down her face. There were no words she could say, nothing she could do but cry.

Kusa remained at Ryuu's side for the longest time, her legs gradually growing numb as the hours drifted by. She cried until there were no tears left to shed. When her sobs finally quieted, a feeling of detachment came over her. Her eyes staring blankly into space, all life having left them. Finally, a spark of life seemed to awaken with her and the gemsbok stirred. She unsteadily got to her hooves and stumbled to the nearest birch tree, her numb legs aching as the blood began flowing again.
With much careful positioning and uncomfortable twisting of her neck, the gemsbok maneuvered a low hanging branch under the thick cord that was tied about around her horn. A quick jerk of her head and the cord snapped, freeing the bell that had always hung from her horn. Kusa lowered her head and picked the bell up by its cord, carrying it back to her fallen friend. With much care, she draped the cord over one of Ryuu's tines. She made sure to carefully wind it around the tine so it wouldn't fall off easily.
"You need this more than I do, it will keep you safe," She whispered hoarsely, "Please take care of it...it's very special to me."

Ourania awoke groggily by the pond. She opened her violet eyes, the sun beamed through the willow trees straight into them. The doe shut her eyes quickly and shook her eyed. She dragged herself unwillingly to her hooves and shook dust from her coat. With a yawn, she took a few steps into the pond, dipping her muzzle in the cool water for a drink. In her reflection, she could see she needed a bath. The doe trotted out of the pond and to the crying idol. She slid down the stream bank and into the never-ending flow of water coming from the strange statue. She stood there a few seconds and climbed out, shaking off excess water.

Still not fully awake, the doe decided to go for a run. She leapt the stream and took off toward the playground. Clambering atop the biggest rock, the doe took a few moments to look out over the birch forest. The warm, morning sun felt good, as did the gentle breeze. Suddenly, the doe's ears shot up. A scent wafted through her nose that was familiar. "Ryuu!" she whispered to herself and dove off of the rock and onto the ground at a gallop. The scent began to get stronger and the doe's heart raced happily.

Suddenly, her hoof caught something hard and it sent her flying. She landed roughly on her back, legs flailing in all directions. "AUGH!" she exclaimed. Rolling over onto her hooves she lifted herself up. "I don't remember a rock being there..." she mumbled, then gasped. She stared at the "rock" which had an odd shape to it. While looking it over in utter confusion, it suddenly hit her. "Ryuu???!" she yelled in shock. "How did this happen?" she whispered through her tears, collapsing by her adopted brother, who was now frozen in time as a statue. A sudden thought made the doe lift her head, tears streaming down her muzzle. " Who did this to you?" she hissed. "When I find out, they will regret it." she promised, laying her head back down on Ryuu.

Takeshi came and sat with him

Takeshi came and sat with him for a few until my game decided to be rediculously slow (stupid new version), .. I gotta get something up here.

Tears rolled from her eyes.

Tears rolled from her eyes. That smell, she knew it almost instantly when the forest breeze brought it to her attention. The stench of blood, there was so much of it in the air these days that it didn't usually phase her to catch a whiff of a wounded creature. But this was different. She never expected what she found when she ran to him.

At first, she could only just stand there staring at his still form, before she began to frantically wake him. Only to find that he'd become stone.

She nudged him. And laid beside him before draping her neck across the back of his neck, She was quiet, silent tears fell from behind drapes of blue hair. the rolled off of his cold neck to the ground below.

" I know you can hear me...where ever you are, be you here...or" Her words stopped a moment "Or another plane.."

she took an entangled flower from her hair, and places it on one of is tines.
She stood, finally shaking more flowers from her hair. placing them around him.
The last pink flower remained behind her ear. as she looked down to her friend
This couldn't be the end. "If you don't wake up...I swear, I'll find a way to where you are..And i'll drag you back kicking and screaming.."
The tears started to fall again as she shook the last flower from behind her ear.

Taking the final flower, and placing it across his snout.

" I'll do what ever it takes. To bring you back"

And with that she turned. leaving her last three pink flowers.

The young stag had visited every day. Sitting quietly with his friend, who hadn't changed in days. Still cold as stone. Still unmoving. But Takeshi could still feel the life in him, so he refused to abandon him.
Quietly, he nosed Ryuu's muzzle, and sat down beside him with a grunt, eyes looking around the birch.

"I know you're in there. I don't know what happened, but I know you've got to fight this. I know you can, so you better not be taking some kind of weird vacation or something. Get back here."

Takeshi closed his eyes, then opened them slowly, pretending to focus on something on the other side of the forest away from Ryuu's vision, as if he could see him. His voice was quiet, subdued; not so normal for the boisterous young stag.

"We need you here."

The scent caught her attention quickly; she couldn't refuse the pull of it, despite her own role being done and over. On top of its scent, something familiar stuck out to her. It wasn't until she reached the large - out of place - stone that she realized who it belonged to.

She said nothing at first, simply staring at the stone sculpture that was Ryuu. She had never fully met him once, but names were something that came to her naturally - whether it was through the mouth of another, or whether it was through her own hidden knowledge. She approached, her nose grazing his face gently, before she laid down next to him. She felt calm in that moment, oddly enough.

Ryuu... She started, his name - foreign on her tongue - slipped back her teeth and out into the air, Do you know the legend of Shisa? She doubted he did; she wasn't even sure if he could hear her. Nonethless, she pressed on.

A king had been gifted an amulet, and with this amulet, he took on a dragon. When the amulet was held high, a mighty roar shook even the dragon, and a massive boulder fell from the heavens and crushed its tail. The dragon could not free himself, and he died. Eventually, both the boulder and the dragon's body became overgrown with plants and trees, and become a place called the Gana-mui Woods.

Her nose touched his, gently again.

The fundemental difference between that dragon, and you, however, is that that dragon was born of evil, terrorizing the small town it resided near. You, on the other hand, are a pure child. You fought because you wanted to avenge the children. You fought because your friends and family were in danger.

She paused for a moment.

You fought because you loved. You are not ready to leave this world. You are not ready to become the soil for this world.

She rose, bringing her muzzle close to the stag's ear.

Wake up, Ryuu.

With a small smile, she left. She trusted his resolve. She wasn't needed any longer.
