Spelldata question. .

SelfAsylum's picture
I've read a lot of forum entries and other what-nots online involving spell data and different techniques for saving them. I've used a lot of these techniques as well as spell saver yet cannot save more than one spell. . .it always ends up being the last set I saved no matter what folder I've taken it from. Is it supposed to be this way? . .or is there a way to do this properly? : ( I just left it at the one I wanted for a while but I've finally decided to pursue this further as I'd like to have more than one set. The closest I've come is putting a lot of different sets together and saving the one I'd like to use more regularly, then sneezing off when I feel like changing. . . any help is greatly appreciated. I know you you've all probably answered these questions a lot. ^_^

If you're playing 3.4, you

If you're playing 3.4, you cannot save spell data yourself. The server does that for you, and if you look under the network menu you have a choice to save or load your set (:

I'm still using 3.31. Can

I'm still using 3.31. Can you save more than one with that version?

ok, ty : ) Have considered upgrading my version before. What about with 3.3? It allows me to save my own spells and save more than one but they always end up being the last one I saved anyways. . .

Yes, 3.4 only allows you to

Yes, 3.4 only allows you to save one.

If you're saving spelldata files from the old version and are still getting the same set each time, I'm afraid I don't know why that is.

Here is how I save files from the old version, maybe try it:
My comp > Program Files > Tale of Tales > Endless forest 3 > Userdata > Highlight and copy "spelldata"
Make a new folder in my documents called "Sets", then a folder within that to say what set I am saving. For example, "Zombie", and paste the spelldata file in there.

For each spelldata I want to save, I make a new folder within the "Sets" folder as the spelldata file cannot be renamed so are all the same. If I want to play a certain set, I simply look through the "Sets" folder, open up the folder within that of the one I want, and copy-paste that data into the Userdata directory as above.

Thank you for the info you

Thank you for the info you guys! ^_^ I was saving in separate folders under the spelldata folder, though had considered saving them in folders elsewhere. Perhaps that's why it's not working for me. I'll give that a try. Thanx again!

That is most definitely why

That is most definitely why it isn't working for you if you're saving them in folders within the actual game folders. You need to save everything on your computer - in your documents - not anywhere in the program files.

hmm. . .I must still be doing

hmm. . .I must still be doing something wrong. I have a "sets" folder saved in documents with two folders in it that each contain a different set. . . .yet its still giving me the last one I saved no matter which one I use. . : ( darn it!. . .

You did take the old spelldata out when you pasted the new data in, right? Smiling Just covering bases

um. . out of the actual

um. . out of the actual spelldata folder? I had my borwn pelt antenna set saved first then I saved my regular which was my grey pelt feather head set. . . then went back to the folder in my documents to reload the first set I saved but it gave me the second set I saved. . .but I never did delete the folder with the first set from the spell data folder. . .would that have still affected it in the documents folder even though it was already in there? dang. . lol. . .I made sure to delete the other sets out of the spelldata folder first. . . I'll give that a try. Thank you. . .I apologize. . its taking me a bit to get this down..lol

Dont delete the folder, just

Dont delete the folder, just the data that is in your spelldata for the game.Make sure to save both of the sets in seperate areas of your folder, so they dont mix

I save them first in a folder

I save them first in a folder in the spelldata folder then copy and paste them in a new folder in a "sets" folder in documents. . I do this separately with each. . as in do one then go back in the game and do it over for another set. Maybe bcuz I didn't delete the folder within the spelldata folder labeled after my first set I saved before saving my second it some how affected the folder for that first set in my documents?. . lol. . idk. Maybe keep tweaking with it until I find what I'm doing wrong. . but it should be able to work for 3.3 right?

@Iaurdagnire--I've been doing

@Iaurdagnire--I've been doing that to a T.

It's still not working. . .perhaps 3.31 doesn't allow you to do that? No matter what I do or where I save the folders it always reverts to the last set I saved no matter which I load. : (

All I can do for now I believe is layer up and sneeze off when I'd like to change sets. . .or do some more research on the matter. Thank you for all your help. . I really appreciate it.

Well, try running TEF as an

Well, try running TEF as an administrator. Right click on the icon, and "run as administrator." I know there's a difference between running as administrator and not doing so. As if they are two different versions of TEF. So you might be doing it all correctly, but if you don't run it as administrator it'll still start up the "other version" where you didn't change your spells.

So perhaps try that?
