WELCOME TO THE PROJECT GREEN LEAF FANART-A-THON!

Sorry we've started a day late, I've been sick, and it tottally slipped my mind!

For those of you who have forgotten the rules of the fanart-a-thon, here they are again!

1- Each person who signed up gets assigned one week, starting today!
2- Each other person will drawn them a piece of fanart, or atleast give it a shot! (:
3- Sketches, chibis, siggy deer, digital art, anything is acceptable!
4- Awesomeness will ensue!

Please, for the sake of fairness, try to draw atleast one picture for each other person signed up. It's understandable if you miss one or two, but it wouldn't be fair to have everyone draw you a picture, and not everyone recieve one in return! (:

I will be sending out mass emails each week with the name, and reference of the deer, whos week it is.

To everyone asking to join in now: I'd love to let you join, but I think it would be a bit difficult, and slightly un-fair to add you all in at this point.

Not to worry though! This will not be the only fanart-a-thon. I'm sure that I'll start another one up not too long after this one ends, so that people who didn't join the first one, can have one aswell!

We'll just have to see how successfull this one is.

I'm so disapointed not

I'm so disapointed not participating in this fan art a thon... My drawing is awful and I have no scanner to scan my work... How do you do , deers, to make such art, and what do you usually use for it? (pencil, photoshop, etc...). Actually I'm learning drawing in an old method, but I think I need advices. Did you learnt how to draw deers on photographs? did you learnt by yourself? And what is your artistic education??
Every answer will be read.

I use Photoshop and other

I use Photoshop and other digital programs like Painttool SAI, and a wacom tablet. When it comes to drawing deers, I look at photographs, look up pictures of their bone and muscle build... and I'm fortunate to be able to work with real deer and see them up close. That helps a lot too, watching them move. Looking up movie clips of deer on youtube for example helps too, if you can't see them up close in real life.

And this goes for every animal - watch them and learn from it, draw from real life etc.

As for any artistic education, don't have any but I've been drawing for 20 years now.

Balkis, even if you aren't

Balkis, even if you aren't the best artist or are a beginner, you're still welcome to take part! This isn't a contest, just a gift-giving banana.

As for your questions, I draw either digitally (with a Tablet and programs like GIMP or OpenCanvas) or with traditional media, mainly pens and markers.

When I first learned to draw deer, I copied the poses from wild-life photography but now I draw mainly from imagination with the occasional glance at a reference to see if a leg is bending correctly, or if I've drawn a neck too long. I highly recommend beginning by copying photos (not tracing mind you, but observational sketching) because eventually your eyes will get used to breaking deer down into their basic shapes, and your hand will get used to rendering those shapes.

I also have several books that are invaluable because they show step by step illustrations of how to break animals down into their basic shapes (rectangles for bodies, circles for heads, you get he idea). If you're looking to improve and have a few bucks to spend (you don't need anything expensive at first!) books like 'How to Draw Animals' by Jack Hamm are amazingly helpful.

My artistic education is high school graduate, with several courses ranging into a variety of media (2D and 3D) and I'll be starting art University next week.
