As Twist went about her daily tasks, she kept watch over the other creatures of the forest. She had only ever concentrated on collecting the lost faeries to help them get home. Most of the fae she was sent to collect hid themselves within acorns so it was easy to take the form of a squirrel and they would not question her collecting. She believed this was the best plan to stay out of the way. However, she had recently come into a situation she thought would be necessary to intervine in and learned how accepting these creatures seemed to be. Despite her chosen form, the creatures she had helped before not only accepted her, but became her friends.
As she observed the forest, she notice that this was a common pattern among the forest. Each deer was unique. They were all very different from each other, yet they accepted each other without question. Twist believed this was something to be admired. If only every species was this accepting.
Twist decided to take a break from her current task and merely observed the forest from atop a tree branch. It made her happy to look out at the forest and see the interactions between the other beings. Perhaps she could even make more friends? She was sceptical. They seemed accepting of differences, but she was not always a 'good' person.
Hope you don`t mind if I post

It was a rather nice day, the owl-kid thought as she trotted through the forest. A light breeze had sprung up, rustling her feathers just a bit. She cocked her head in a way that would almost seem unnatural, had she been a normal deer. Her wings were definitely getting bigger, though they weren`t big enough to allow her flight as of yet. Still, the mere thought of it excited her.
Yet something else had caught her attention-a small creature, resting on a branch some distance above her head. It seemed to be a squirrel. The owl-kid pouted to herself. If it was a little bit closer, would she have been able to catch it? She was getting better at hunting, though she wasn`t perfect.
Still there was something about this creature that made her curious. Most squirrels always seemed to be moving about, but this one was staying stay. She moved closer to the base of the tree, peering at it in wonder.

Twist noticed the little owl creature watching her from the ground. She looked like an interesting creature, although possibly dangerous. She was aware of the fact that owls are very likely to eat rodents such as her current form. She contemplated fleeing the scene and avoiding the possibility. However this idea disappeared when she thought about her previous encounter with the forest creatures. She smiled at Gwen. Not sure what she wanted, Twist decided to try speaking to her.
"Can Hy help hyu little one? Hyu look confused."
She climbed down the tree a ways to be closer to eye level with this new deer, while still remaining cautious of the possibility of being eaten. She remained on edge, but thought it best to give this new creature a chance.
It`s no problem! I`ve been a
___
The owl-kid was taken aback by the squirrel`s ability to speak. It`s not a normal one... She blinked, trying to hide her embarrassment. Forest magic had a broad variety of effects of this forest; she`d mistaken shape-shifted deer for regular prey before, though she`d always managed to realize it before she pounced on them. Maybe this squirrel was also a deer with magic casted on them? She wasn`t sure.
What she did notice was the creature`s strange color scheme. It was odd mixture that she hadn`t realized before. Still, the forest was full of strange and interesting deer. She should have realized that this creature wasn`t an ordinary squirrel that moment she`d seen her.
"H...Hello there. I`m sorry if I scared you or something like that. I thought you were a normal squirrel at first..." Gwen glanced sideways at the creature, a bit too ashamed to look her in the eyes.

Twist relaxed as the Owl-kid
She chuckled at the thought of her being 'normal'. It was one thing she never considered herself. Then she stopped, focusing on the first part of the statement. It was true that she had remained slightly on edge, but she did not consider herself as 'scared'. She smirked at her.
"No fear here, Gwendolyn. Hy was merely surprised to see a deer like hyu in diz forest. Hyu seem like a nize girl though. My name is not so elegant as yours, but hyu may call me Twist."
She smiled at Gwendolyn. She liked that name, it was beautiful and well spoken.
Gwen tilted her head in a
She flapped her wings in a sort autonomic gesture. There was something about the creature that made Gwen just a little bit wary. Of course, it was probably her; after all, she`d run into plenty of different types of creatures in the forest, and not all of them had been nice. Still, she felt rather bad for being a bit worried, even if it was just a natural thing.
Gwen lifted her head, blinking at the squirrel. She nodded. "Ok. It`s nice to meet you, Twist." She perked up her ears, giving what was probably the closest someone with a beak could smile. "Have you been here awhile? I don`t remember seeing anyone like you around the forest."

Twist spoke carefully in response to Gwen's question, fearing she had already over stepped her bounds. She had never been good with introductions.
"It is a pleasure to meet hyu as well. Sorry- er... Hy have only been here for a few weeks. Hy tend to stay out of the way."
She looked away from Gwen contemplating what to say next.
"This forest is so peaceful at times, yet has so much goink on. Hy am amazed at the beings of the forest."
Nah, it`s fine! It would
___
"It`s ok." Gwen shook out her feathers, looking around. There was something about Twist that interested her, though she couldn`t quite figure it out. Perhaps it was just her vibrant coloring? Who really knew?
Without warning, she emitted a half-chirp, half-laugh. "It`s real strange. New deer come into the forest all of the time-well, you`re not really a deer, but..." Gwen shrugged sheepishly. "It`s a really pretty place, right? You should be careful, though. Sometimes...not everyone in the forest is kind..." Her amber eyes seemed to darken temporarily as she glanced down. She hoped she hadn`t scared Twist in any way, but it was a good idea to make sure she knew about anything dangerous, right?

______
Twist chuckled a little at the warning she had recieved. She may be small, but she knew how to handle herself. Yet, she knew in the back of her mind that Gwen was telling the truth. Given her current form, Twist would not be able to handle as much as she usually could. She stopped to think about when she had only recently been pinned to the ground by the hoof of another 'deer'. She had needed help to get out of that situation.
"Thank hyu for the warnink. It is a rather beautiful place, und Hy have noticed that many of the forest dwellers here are very kind. Hy admire that."
Twist gave a friendly smile to Gwen. She had the same admirable quality. It was hard to imagine creatures in this forest who were not so kind, yet she was aware that anything was possible, especially in this forest.
"Hy shall keep my wits about me."
"That`s good to know." Gwen
"It`s great that you can climb!" She turned to Twist, studying her with interest. "You`ll be able to get around a lot faster." She glanced up at the trees, flapping her rather small wings in what was perhaps an expression of longing. "What`s the view like, up there? The forest looks really nice from down here, but I want to be able to fly. That way I`ll see what it looks like from above."

Twist stopped for a moment to
"Hy do enjoy climbing. As for the view- it iz beautiful. It may be different due to my size, but from the ground, everyting towers overhead und it can seem very intimidating und empty to me. However when Hy am op in the trees, Hy can observe the forest as a whole. It allows me to see just how busy the forest really iz."
She paused for a moment, considering what to say.
"Hy am sure your wings vill grow in soon enough. For now, take your time und enjoy the forest from the ground. There is no need to rush these tings."
"I....I see. I think."
"What you`re saying sounds amazing!" She hopped up, her eyes bulging with excitement. "Being able to watch everything like that-and no one would even know!" She chuckled.
It was then that another thought flashed onto her mind; it whipped through her conscience as if it were an unwanted intruder. She glanced away, and when she spoke again, her tone was quite different. "And...sometimes, there are days where it`s better to be up in the trees..."

Twist noticed Gwen's sudden
"Are hyu alright? What iz so bad about the forest floor? Hy thought it was better for the deer-kin due to their size. When do hyu tink it iz better to be in the trees?"
She thought that if she could get Gwendolyn to tell her what was going on in her mind, that she may be able to help ease some of her worries.

Gwen`s head snapped up. "Oh? Well, uh...It`s nothing, really!" She fluffed out her feathers in an attempt to appear nonchalant, though she was pretty convinced it looked superficial. "It is nice on the ground here. But...sometimes it`s also nice to be up in the trees. To stay safe and such." She shrugged, hoping that Twist wouldn`t question her strange change of mood.
"It could also be because I`m...well, I`m a bird. Sort of!" She cocked her head at what looked like a 180 degree angle, perhaps even a bit more so. "I guess birds are naturally attracted to trees. Something like that, anyway. But I`m also half deer, I think...so..."

Twist stared at her for a moment questioningly. This was a great change in attitude from how Gwen had been acting. Perhaps she should keep an eye on Gwen in the future. Either way, she would let it go for now.
"I suppose that makes sense... It is safer due to the fact that many of the forest creatures can not reach that height. However, that does not mean that it is always the best. Just keep in mind that the ground can be better at times as well."
Gwen turned. "I know. I
She turned her head back to the tree that Twist was perched up on, tilting her head once again to examine it. "I`ve tried to get higher up, though!" She pecked at the tree bark curiously, glancing over at Twist. "How about you? Have you ever been on the ground before?" She ruffled her feathers. "I mean, I hope you don`t mind me saying this, but...sometimes, it`s harder to live on the ground when you`re little. Trust me-I was almost as small as you once!"

Twist listened to Gwen's
"Hy have been on the ground many times, in many forms- Hy understand just how difficult it can be to be stuck on the ground, especially beink small. It can be scary und overwhelmink, but there are also benefits to it. First off, there are more hidink places on the ground as well as all of the healink herbs that it provides."
"Yes, I guess you`re right."

"Hy do know the tree. The Old Oak? It iz where Hy have been sleeping since Hy arrived in the forest."
She smiled at Gwen to attempt to reassure her before continuing.
"Do hyu scare often?"
Gwen nearly started at
"Well..." Gwen looked down, pawing at the dirt. "When I was younger, I used to be scared of a lot of things. It was because I was small, and I guess small things like me were to chase around. I was also scared of getting stepped on." She laughed a bit.
"Do you ever get scared of things like that? I mean, I know you can fly and such, but still."

Twist stopped for a while to
"Hy guess dot makes sense. Though, Hy do not have the same worries. Hy have been stepped on before und while it was not very pleasant, Hy did live through it." Twist chuckled at her own words. "Hyu will be fine as long as hyu have a friend who iz willink to help." She quoted the lesson she had only learned the other day.
Gwen nearly started at
"You`re right, though. It`s nice having friends. Sometimes they`re the only thing you`ve got." She gazed wistfully at the forest surrounding them. "I wonder how those without friends get through. They must be pretty lonely...."

"Loneliness, huh...." Gwen
"It`s nice have friends, isn`t it?" Gwen smiled. "Sometimes they protect you when you need it. Honestly...when I was younger, I sometimes felt bad about having others protect me. Of course, I was too frightened at the time to think about that...but..." She shrugged. "It`s nice for you, though. You have the trees to hide in."

"At least hyu learned that lesson while hyu were still young. It iz a good lesson und I wish Hy would have learned it sooner." Twist chuckled at how long it took her to learn. She had thought herself better than that before. "Hy do not regret livink in the forest."
"Yeah..." Gwen trailed off,
This was a truly beautiful forest, and it was strange to think about the things that had happened to her here. Of course, many of those things had been very good. Still...
"It`s kind of strange to think about, you know? I mean, this is a very place, and it stays the same no matter what happens to you. I mean, you can be sitting by a certain tree with your friends one day, and then get chased by somebody and run past that same tree the next. It`s just weird....all of it stays the same. I mean, I don`t think the forest is going to change because of one deer, but it`s weird to think about how it just seems to...watch?" She shrugged once again. Why did I say all of that?

Twist smiled. It was amusing how easy it was for her to get others to open up. She had always been good at it. The hard part was deciding what to do with it. In the past she had used that to hurt people, but since she began living in the forest she had been trying to use it to help others.
"That iz fine. It iz fine to feel scared. If hyu do not feel scared, then hyu can not be brave. Dey balance each other." She stopped to think for a few seconds and continued, "However, if hyu ever feel truly alone und scared, hyu can call me. Hy am always around the forest."
