May 20, 2012 - 4:51pm — Rutilus
The plot thus far is that Taliene basically just up and disappeared in late December, 2011. I did start trying to write something about it, and failed miserably, because I hadn't thought it out very well and the whole thing seemed very cliche.
It's been almost, if not already, six months since she disappeared, and I've been trying to think of a way to resolve this plot. I've also been trying to figure out what actually happened.
No-one these days really knows who Taliene is, or who she was, and as a result it's likely that if I do write something about all of this, it's mainly going to feature Rutilus, as more people have an idea of who he is.
Taliene's going to have a fawn, there's no doubt in my mind about that. I've wanted to play a fawn for a long time and unfortunately, it seems that unless my characters are tied to at least one of my other characters, I end up getting rid of them.
There's no point in keeping things a secret, because there's always the chance that I'll end up not-writing it. That, and it's not exactly full of big twists.
I've had thoughts about bringing other members of the Phoebus family into the forest. There's Tal and Rut's father, Amicus, who left them just a few years after Tal was born. Rutilus has never quite forgiven him for leaving and ever since I realised that, I've wanted to give them a confrontation.
There's Amicus' second son, Apollo, the result of an affair that was never uncovered, one that started just after Rutilus was born. The as-of-yet-unnamed mother of Apollo died in an accident when Apollo was young, but she was the reason that Amicus left in the first place. The story that Enya believed, and subsequently that Tal and Rut were told, was that Amicus was always a wanderer - a gypsy of sorts - and left to continue that way of life, unable to settle down as the mother wished.
Apollo's arrival would cause a hell of a lot of trouble for Rutilus due to original feelings of betrayal, and then suddenly finding out that his father left him and Taliene for another son, and another woman, and had been lying and cheating on Enya for a long time.
Then there would be Taliene's fawn. Since I don't plan on bringing Taliene herself back, it's very likely that she would beg Rutilus to care for it, and then disappear just as her father before her had done. Yes, Taliene has always wanted a child of her own - but the child wasn't planned, and she's long given up hope of ever having the family she wanted.
So how was the fawn concieved?
I decided against rape. I decided against her having been kidnapped, and Stockholm-Syndrome'd into loving her captor. I decided against her having had a love/mate for the past year or so.
She made the mistake of having sex with someone she barely knew, someone she didn't love. It happened in the human world, likely in august/september. She found out that she was pregnant via pregnancy test, as humanised as all of this is. Why did she disappear? Because she wanted to leave before she started showing signs. She didn't want anyone to know.
It's very likely that she considered having an abortion. She likely got to the clinic and then decided against it, but from the start she would have known that she couldn't keep the baby.
She'll give birth in the forest to make sure there are no records of her child in the human world, which will make it easier for a cover-story and for Rut to have legal custody of the kid.
I guess Taliene will fade out of existence after this. Her time's been up for a while, and I'm not specifying whether she's going to end up alive or dead because frankly, I don't know, and I want it to remain ambiguous even when the story's over.
Rutilus won't have a choice. He'll have to take the fawn in, and he'll be reminded of his missing sister every goddamn day.
My forest and human timelines don't work quite the same way as reality does. The fawn will be re-introduced to the human world when its human form is 16 years old, and Rutilus can establish a cover story for adopting the kid.
So, I guess...hm. To cut it short;
1. Taliene's disappearing for good
2. Taliene's kid is entering the forest and living with Rut in the future
3. Amicus or Apollo may surface, but it's unlikely
4. I have to write this stuff and I'll probably give up
5. Rut's life is shit.
Ah, it's good to read what
I'm actually very intrigued
Lung; thankyou! I'm glad you
Misako; asdf I'm glad you read this, I was wondering if you had. At first I was a bit hesitant because the whole thing is very humanised, but really most of my characters have become more and more human as time goes on, Rut and Tal in particular. I also needed to show - perhaps just to myself - that Taliene wasn't just the 'innocent shy motherly doe' that I'd always portrayed her as, nor is she just 'bitter mistrusting broken doe' either. Rut is my favourite character to torture, it's so much fun ;;"
I tend to read everything! I
Oh no I think the humanized parts fit you and your writing too. I think deer-characters can be very complex and deep, but I think humans and their complicated society just have more potentional for writing. Eh. Not sure if that made sense.. But I think it fits your characters.
Yes! I can see what you mean. To me it's like you're showing some more sides to her, perhaps 'bad' quality's. Which can really strenghten a character. You've always done this well with Rutilus, perhaps Taliene had to keep more to expectations you had of her. So I can see what you mean with showing it to yourself as well.
Anyway, yeah, I'm interested to see how you'll be continuing this. The Phoenix family has always been very interesting.
Just wow. An excellent idea
I'm excited to see where this goes, Dannii. /also intrigued
I was wondering what you were
I actually like how you're going to end this. Ya know, taking away one character but introducing a new one. I will say this though, at least Rut will have Marti to help. I can imagine him being like "Marti what is going on what do I do!?"
I was wondering what was up
Mis; oh, good. It makes
Taliene was always sort of the opposite of Rut, very good and pure and such, so yeah. I tried to show her worse qualities before, but it never really...got through, I guess.
Thankyou. c:
ocean; asdf ♥ -nom-
AA; HAHA |D God, I started off with this big plan and it just...disintegrated and became nothing, so I was left with a missing character and no way of resolving it until I could think of something |:
YEAH it's sort of a good way to ensure that I won't just get bored of the character and scrap them.
HURRRR I imagined it causing a bit of drama |: Because I mean Rut's all 'but I'm not even with Marti yet and what if I want to get a place with her what if she hates the kid omg omg omg' :'D
Seed; aw ♥ ;; It's good to know she's remembered.
Yeah that's what I've noticed
And oh boy. Marti and Rut taking care of a baby. It would be scary and amusing at the same time. Marti can take care of babies easily because she really has a strong maternal instinct, but her first reaction would probably just be... surprise. She might be a little bit skeptical at first because ya know... bad experiences and all with kids but I think she would be willing to help out a lot and basically become the mom/aunt figure or whatever it needs. Would the fawn be legally his "kid" or would he still consider it his nephew/niece?
Poor Rut. ;; I'm interested,
AA; YEAH I've done that so
PAHAHA I just--when the idea came to me I imagined those two and just...yes. 8D The kid'll grow really fast though so like it'll be like--one day Rut brings it into the human world all 'HEY MARTI' and then three months later it's a teenager. |:
UUUUUH I'm not entirely sure. I think at first he's likely to consider it the latter, but then eventually just be like 'fuck it this is my kid now'.
Holograph; ♥ ;u;
I'm sitting here so I can
