Glisseo whipped her head back

Glisseo whipped her head back around when she heard him reply. Her ears pinned back, practically disappearing against her skull, and she frowned. She snorted and stood as he did. "You think I had a good time?" She yelled as his back as he tried to walk away. "You think it was fun for me to go through that strain? To feel like I'd just abandoned you? I spent a whole week trying to get back to you!" She didn't even flinch as he fell to the ground. She was beyond trying to help him now. He wanted to be stubborn and get mad at her? Fine! He could do whatever he wanted. She turned away from him before looking over her shoulder, "And to think, I could've been falling for you... My mistake." She spat, just loud enough for him to hear, before she started off in the opposite direction.

Everything was falling to

Everything was falling to pieces. What.. are you talking about? I had.. hell of a time here. That.. that's what I.. try to say. He gasped against the ball of panic that began to force its way down his throat again, making it hard to breathe. I thought you'd been.. hurt, or-- It was impossible to think about that. The idea was too repulsive, even with her being so furious at him for..well, it was hard for him to understand anything right now.
Glisseo, please.. The last thing she said to him forced him onto his belly. It was too late. He'd never stand again. He was less than dirt. Enthbril's mouth moved to speak, then stopped. He tried again. I.. I don't think anybody can care about me. He shut his eyes against the hot tears that were coming back as he lay there and wondered to himself if anything mattered anymore.

Glisseo was so mad she

Glisseo was so mad she just... She wanted to scream. She wanted to fight. She wanted to run, more than anything. She'd only made it a few feet away from the stag before he started to speak again. In broken sentences. She wanted to knock the air back into him, along with some sense! The doe sighed and looked back over her shoulder at him. Anger was still apparent in her wide stance and her glowing eyes. "So say that instead of accusing me of things first!" Glisseo practically growled. Her voice was deep and husky with emotion. Not to mention still gravelly from her near-drowning experience yesterday. She was breathing heavily, her nostrils flaring with her breath. She wanted to be anywhere else. But she knew she wasn't going to leave now. She had more heart than that. "That's the most selfish thing you've ever said!" Glisseo stalked back over to him and nudged her with a hoof. "Get up. We're going to the pond." She didn't look at him as he continued crying. She wished that he would stop that already.

It didn't seem to him like

It didn't seem to him like he'd accused her of anything except for--well, maybe he had, but it was very clear that this wasn't the time to say much of anything if he wanted to keep his head. Things were so volatile between the two that it worried him immensely about their current situation and their future, if there was any possibility now that they would share it together. Enthbril couldn't understand her reaction to his being emotional; he was an emotional kind of stag and his family (and what few friends he had) hardly ever got worked up when he cried.
His ears cupped towards the different tone to her voice before flopping against the sides of his head when she called his statement "selfish." The cogs back in his mind had begun to turn with what he'd said: his mom hadn't meant to leave him when he was a fawn, but she did. Even before that, his dad left. He hadn't spoken to his grandmother in a long time so he assumed she didn't care about him anymore, and it seemed like all of the other deer he'd come into contact to moved on with their lives after meeting him. Was that going to keep happening to him? It might as well He thought.

Her hoof on his body brought him from the murky depths of those unhelpful thoughts of his. Enthbril looked up at her and felt his heart drop into his belly when he saw that she couldn't bring herself to look at him. The pond wasn't so far away, but it seemed miles from where they were.
Enthbril pulled himself onto his belly and inched his way to his full height where he stood quaking with exhaustion. He was able to take half a step forward before he had to stop as a prickly and numbing sensation ran all up and down his legs. It's going to take a.. while. He laughed bitterly, staring at the ground.

Glisseo waited for him to

Glisseo waited for him to stand, angrily staring at the berries that sprinkled the ground. "Lean on me if you need to. We're not stopping." She said under her breath, less impatient than before. She began walking at a slow pace, keeping his shoulder against hers in case he stumbled. It almost reminded her of when she was in sports. When she first joined the team she wasn't in the best of conditions, and her team-mates were always having to carry her weight. Eventually she got tired of being a slob and went the extra mile. Doing extra lunges, lifting weights in her spare time... She almost missed that. She got a wonderful high from doing anything physical. She glanced at the stag from the corner or her eye. He was in bad shape. And she felt slightly guilty for yelling at him. But everyone needed tough-love, right? She sighed. "I got pulled back into the human world. Nothing ate me. I didn't leave you. Stop sulking." She said under her breath. Unwilling to apologize for disappearing on their date, or yelling at him today.

It was an impossibility to

It was an impossibility to allow himself to lean against her, but there he was doing the very thing, shuffling rather than walking normally so that he was less in danger of tripping and falling. Enthbril kept his focus down on the ground so that seeing what little progress they'd made wouldn't discourage him enough to make him want to stop again. She'd been in the human world. That was where she belonged, and she could have stayed.. that made him feel a little better.
Had no idea that was possible. His voice was soft as well. I.. assumed the worst. The whole situation didn't seem right. But I'm glad you were able to come back-- Enthbril thought to himself that she didn't want to hear about his emotions right then, so he snapped his mouth shut.

She sighed and watched the

She sighed and watched the lake inch closer on the horizon. She wanted nothing more than to be able to sling the stag across her back and carry him there. At least they would get there in the same millennial. Why was she in such a bad mood? Was it because her thoughts had been confirmed? He had actually thought that something happened to her. Though, she supposed, that was better than him thinking she had stood him up. Glisseo would rather have another run-in with Sianna than do anything to intentionally hurt Enthbril. But for some reason, she was just angry. He seemed so reliant on her affections. Like she was his last hope, and he didn't have anything else. That scared her. She didn't want to be anyone's everything. That's what her father had been for her mother. And when he left.... She shook her head. She still wanted to explore the possibility that her father was in the forest. That he wasn't dead, after-all. What if it was just his human body that was dead? She'd heard stories since she'd gotten here. About deer that were just reincarnated versions of their past lives. Why couldn't that be true for her Dad? She wanted desperately for it to be true. She needed something to hold on to. Suddenly, she was the one leaning on Enthbril, instead of the other way around. Her head was back to pounding with her thoughts spinning around in her head. Between the brown stag and her father. She couldn't get a solid grip on any of it. "My mother helped me get here." She replied nonchalantly, her voice coming out in a rasp. It was still raw from coming through the portal. And yelling at Enthbril hadn't helped any. She looked back up, they were about halfway now...

Glisseo's discomfort with her

Glisseo's discomfort with her own thoughts was tangible to Enthbril and made him feel uneasier than he already did. He didn't like to keep his feelings to himself so much because he hadn't learned how to release them in any way other than just letting them go whenever he felt them. What was he going to do if something else happened to her? Gods.. just stop thinking about that! he snapped internally to himself. He needed to do something else, so he decided to try quickly glancing over at her. Enthbril frowned to himself when he saw the look on her face, but he was lost as to what he could do to help.
She did? Relief washed over when they'd shifted the topic of conversation to somebody who wasn't either of them. How..? He felt reluctant asking her about it, thinking that it would remind her that she could just leave him there. But a light curiosity about the human world and its culture began dancing around his head and tried to spill out of his mouth all at once in a waterfall.

Glisseo's mind was still

Glisseo's mind was still centered around thoughts of her father when Enthbril cut in with a question. She nodded her head and didn't speak for awhile. She was probably being stupid. Getting her hopes up about finding her father. It had been months without a single sign of him in the human world. And she'd been in the forest for over a month now and she hadn't met him. The forest wasn't that big, so she should've by now... Right? She sighed. "Yes. My parents knew about a portal into the forest from the human world. It was a pain in the ass to get to, but it worked out alright." She awkwardly shrugged her shoulders against him, still watching as the lake crept ever closer. "She didn't want me to come back. She said with a sigh. Maybe she was right to have thought that? Maybe she was putting too much into this relationship with Enthbril. What if, in the end, it wasn't worth it.... She wouldn't be able to go home for another two years if she wanted to save herself from rumors. She shook her head and let it hang down slightly, her ears drooping. She wished the thoughts and the doubts would just stop.

A portal? His head lifted a

A portal? His head lifted a little to watch her as they continued their slow trek. It really sounded as if the Gods made sure it was not an easy thing to do, but there was still a way in and out of the Forest. At the very least, that meant it would take her some premeditating to leave him if she ever wanted to. Doubt threatened to fill his own heart, but he knew worrying wasn't going to accomplish anything here. He needed to focus on the here and now with her. Enthbril prodded behind a drooping ear of hers with his nose. Hey.. No other words formed. A shadow of a smile twitched along his mouth as he poked her again, this time resting his nose for a moment before he gently pulled away.

Glisseo felt overwhelmed by

Glisseo felt overwhelmed by everything she had been feeling that day. Angry that Enthbril hadn't been taking care of himself. Scared of how she felt. Happy to see him again. Worried about getting her hopes up over her father. Guilty for treating him the way she had. She was just a mess. But she was holding most of it in. Enthbril had already done enough crying for the both of them today. And she wasn't one for tears, regardless. She was brought out of her thoughts when she felt something cold press against the skin behind her ear. She looked over and smiled weakly. "Hey." She answered, trying to perk up a little bit. They arrived at the bank of the lake and Glisseo stopped. She let Enthbril get in front of her before giving him a forceful push into the water.

Enthbril had been too busy

Enthbril had been too busy taking in the beauty of the water in front of them to have prepared for the push, so it went without saying that he fell quite magnificently into the water which, thankfully, cushioned some of his fall. It wasn't that deep where they were but he still came up spluttering. When has this happened before? Enthbril snorted jovially at her as he pulled himself out of the water. Just then he saw his reflection and lay down in the water so quickly that it slapped his stomach painfully: his ribs and hipbones were quite prominent with his fur plastered against himself like that. His eyes darted over to her, hoping she hadn't noticed.

The water lapping all around him triggered a half-remembered time very early in his life. It was more feeling than anything else and trickled through his consciousness like sand through fingers. That left him with a little smile on his face, though he didn't know what it was. Reflections of the rippling water danced under his chin as he bent his neck low to drink a little. Delicious. He felt like draining the entire pond but remembered some deer remarking to him that when he did have a chance to eat and drink that he should take in small but frequent quantities. Though his throat cried for more, Enthbril only took a few more gulps.
