A blue stag scented a smell faintly farmiliar off in the distance. He followed it and saw a younger stag in the brush. It took him a moment to remember who it was. It was the scent of Enthbril. The scent could be faintly traced in Kasmir's fur. Willis smiled, finally able to meet him. "Hello," he said softly, trying not to suprise him.

The precaution against

The precaution against scaring the young orange buck didn’t go as planned, but at least his startled response only consisted of his head jerking up from grazing. He hurriedly pivoted a bit clumsily and stared at the stag who had addressed him. Enthbril raised a fore hoof and grinned sheepishly at the newcomer; he wasn’t used to others seeking him out to start conversations, and this was a full-grown stag, too! The young buck couldn’t help but feel a bit in awe.

Uh.. hello! His voice trembled and cracked in the middle of his speech, causing him to wince. It’s nice weather, isn’t it? All of the sunshine has been making the grass grow taller. He gestured with a small toss of his antlers towards the grass around them. This movement disturbed the air between the two and he could have sworn he smelled his mother: a light, sweet musk accented by crushed flowers and blueberries.

Yes, I know how that feels,

Yes, I know how that feels, too. She may join if she'd like.
__
The blue stag returned the awkward smile, not sure what to make of the boy. He was similar to his mother. Willis though for a moment, trying to conjur up a mental image of what Hexane might look like. He then dropped the idea an returned his attention to the younger buck, listening to what he had to say.

Willis nodded, looking in the direction of the grass. It had in fact grown taller. Good for humgry deer, was the simple thought in the stag's head. "Yes, very nice weather. Grass is uh... fuller?" he replied, then tried to think of what to say to him, "Eh--I apologize for startling you. I..." The words drifted off, the stag not knowing what to say.[

Well, there they were,

Well, there they were, awkwardly smiling at one another. This was.. fun? It seemed as if all of his recent interactions with others had failed in one way or another, so he was starting to get a little used to it. The blue stag seemed to be distracted for a moment looking at him.
Yeah, it is! When it grows quickly like this, the top parts are a little bit more tender and sweet than the bottom parts. All of that talk about the grass reminded him of his previous task and he set about grazing again until the other spoke. It's not a big deal. Did somebody tell you to come over here..? His large ears flopped as he tipped his head. Something like that?

The young stag bent down to

The young stag bent down to graze. Trying not to look stupid, the older stag began to graze himself. "No, no one told me to come find you," Willis said carefully, "I just figured it was time I met you. Kas--I've heard alot about you, Enthbril." Since he'd revealed he know the boy's name, he decided he should introduce himself. "I'm Willis, by the way."

Hmm. The grunt came as an

Hmm. The grunt came as an idle response; he didn't think much of talking while eating. Nice t'meet you, Willis. You--..already know my name. Now that was a little weird. He had a large family that he always imagined to be like the roots of the tubers he liked to dig up and eat, sometimes reaching far into the ground and coming in contact with a rock or another root. Maybe Willis heard about him from another deer. Enthbril's ears twitched towards the back of his head.

For a second it sounded like he was going to say something, but Willis has stopped. Besides, it was too late now to bring it up. He felt a little distracted by Willis's antlers and kept looking up at them and feeling sorry for his own stubby pair.

Willis hesistated to speak,

Willis hesistated to speak, knowing how awkward he'd made it. "Your name? I learned it from your mother, eh, Kasmir. We met one night by the Plaayground, or whatever kids call it. She told me about ya." The older stag looked away, into the distance. "Look, I'm sorry for botherin' you. I,uh... forget it." Willis took a step back, away from Enthbril. He lowered his head and began to graze. He enjoyed the taste of the sweet summer grass.

After a quiet minute or four, the blue stag looked up, seeing the younger buck eyeing his antlers. Willis put his head back down, continuing his grazing. The words came out softly with a quiet chuckle. "I was just like you as a boy."

So, Willis knows his mom. That didn't seem like a big deal since half the Forest seemed to know or talk to any given member of his family, but the way this stag was acting made him a little curious.. and a little suspicious. His curiousity outran his dawning suspicious feelings and made him decide to play the nice-guy card and see what this stag had to tell him.

After they grazed in silence for a few more minutes, he felt satisfied and immediately folded his legs beneath himself to lay down where he'd been grazing--this still put the two at a comfortable distance. Enthbril smiled at Willis. Really? That's funny.. Does that mean you were the same color of orange, too?"

Willis laughed, almost

Willis laughed, almost choking on his grass. Orange?! The blue stag quickly composed himself, though, for he felt he'd made the child feel embarassed. Or perhaps he hadn't. Willis found it hard to read this kid. "Orange? No. Waiting for my full head of antlers to come in." The blue stag looked up at the child, rasing his head and pausing his grazing. "Heh. At least, I did. Pretty sure thats what you were doin'."

He thought for a moment. Should he tell the kid about Kasmir and himself? Maybe Kasmir had already told him. Maybe she wanted to wait. He shrugged, entirely unsure. "Eh, but my sister was orange, I guess." Not what he wanted to say, but it avoided the other subject.

The yound doe skipped through

The yound doe skipped through the forest, humming and singing contently along with the birds. It was something out of a disney movie. She hopped and hopped, looking for someone she knew. Namely, Willis or Enthbril or her mother. By the time she reached the tall grasses, the wind had blown her fun around enough that it looked dishivled.
She caught a familiar scent on the wind. Two familiar scents. It was.. Her son. And Willis. Close to each other.
She searched for them, looking to and fro, before finally reaching their gethering spot. "Oh! Hi there Will! And my babu!" She nuzzled Enth first, before moving on to Willis, nuzzling his shoulder, and licking his cheek. Curling next to his leg, she went to speak again. "What're ya'll up to?"

Hello, Enthbril. She dragged his name like chalk being scraped along a chalkboard, a certain malice in her glare.

Willis immeadiately

Willis immeadiately brightened with the arrival of Kasmir. He smiled and returned a warm nuzzle to her. He let her settle by him and then looked at Enthbril. His smile turned awkward. "Eh... Nothin' much, Kas," he said.
__

Damn, that was short.

He smiled briefly at the

He smiled briefly at the other's reply before he became overwhelmed by the appearance of his mother and grandmother. Whatever relief he had felt by his mother's arrival was washed away by Misang stalking in with a not very friendly aura about her.
The young stag gulped and fixed an artificially happy look on his face and returned his mother's nuzzles. Seeing her lick Will's cheek made him even more suspicious; he hadn't seen Kasmir in some time and she certainly could have found a new friend, but he didn't often see deer act like that with friends--whatever.
The gang's all here! His voice was a little bit louder than he intended it and he laughed nervously to try and hide this fact. Yeah, nothing much..

He chose to stay on his hooves as he glanced over at Misang. Hi, gramma Mimi..

The doe's vicious expression

The doe's vicious expression was being shot directly at him, unwavering and icy sharp.
You look better than I remember last we met, no? her tone was dark and uncomforting, vengeful.

Really? Enthbril's voice

Really? Enthbril's voice wasn't yet deep enough for him to make a successful attempt at mimicking his grandmother's tone. He merely gave her what he hoped was a neutral expression. Thank you for saying that. Wasn't that nice of her? Now he looked to the two laying down with a pleading expression on his face that Misang wouldn't be able to see unless she shifted to another position. His tail was tucked between his legs.

Willis stood up immeadiately.

Willis stood up immeadiately. He walked between the pair. "Misang, leave the boy alone. You've no reason to act such a way to him," he said in a tone entirely new to him. He snorted. The stag raised his head in an attemped to look larger.

She slowly advanced closer to his clearly fearful form. You're shaking. You have the right mind to fear me.
She pointed her ears outward in a dominating fashion. Daughter, the sharp blue leer shot to her daughter. Did you not teach him how to respect his elders?
the gaze slowly moved over to the stag. And just who is this? she hissed.
Kasmir's picture

Kasmir's heart pounded with anxiety. Mother, please. Obviously there is some conflict here. But he is my son. And this is my love. she hisses, standing up, facing her mother. She may be her mother, may've taken her in. But this was her son. And her mate. She wasn't going to mess with her family. She was a mama bear.
Please do not try and not cause any more conflict here. I was ab out to tell my son that I have a mate.
Pretzil's picture

Her eyes grew malicious, and

Her eyes grew malicious, and she growled at her daughter. For how long have you knows this tick? You never once told me about him. She spread her legs out in an aggressive pose, ears flaring out.

MATE? He yelped, ears

MATE? He yelped, ears flopping to the sides of his head and he looked between the three of them. What's going-- Mom, you didn't-- Too many things to be said! Everything was getting jumbled in his mouth before he could begin to say what needed to be said. Of course he felt very grateful towards Will for telling Misang off, but this was a little too sudden for him when tempers were flaring.

Everybody is pairing up.. He grumbled to himself sourly and rolled his eyes. The young stag bristled and began to back away from the quarreling bunch.

Willis hesitated when

Willis hesitated when Misang's harsh words flowed into his ears. His head lowered, antlers down. "Who the hell do you think you are to come here and insult my family? What reason do you have to do so? You know what, fuck that. I don't need a reason from a petty thing like you," Wills snarled, a hatred boiling inside him, "A tick? It that what you think I am? Well this tick doesn't play." He glared at Misang through narrowed eyes. He bared his teeth like a dog. "Its sad, your little display of 'anger.' Its sad how you bring no fear into a fly. My dear, you've messed with the wrong buck." He reared up, blazing with anger.
Pretzil's picture

Your family? Your family?!

Your family? Your family?! what started off as a snarl suddenly melted into broken, hysterical maniac laughter.
Enthbril belongs to me, as well as Kasmir! Would you attack a defenseless doe, one who has a fawn to care for? How unnoble of a stag.
Kasmir's picture

Kasmir braced her stance. I

Kasmir braced her stance. I didn't tell you because I KNEW THIS IS HOW YOU WOULD REACT! Her voice grew to shouts, and she glared at Misang.
"Enth, I'm so sorry. I'm so, so sorry.. She moved, suddenly aware that her son was backing away, and went to stand next to him, protectively. Mimi, you're my mother. I love you. But Enthbril is my son. And I love him, too. And I also love Willis. So I WONT LET YOU HURT EACHOTHER! She screams, not leaving her place by Enthbril for even a moment.
Willis! She's just upset because I didn't tell her! Don't do anything rash! Please! She knows how to fight, she could hurt you! You could hurt HER! Please don't fight! She is frantically yelling at the two, trying to get them to back off. Sobs start to plauge her. Her emotions can't handle this type of distress.

Everything was getting to be

Everything was getting to be too much for him; the young stag's legs quivered with the need to bolt, but he knew that he needed to stay where he was and help. We-we don't belong to you. His voice was clear. Steady. His hooves moved of their own accord and he found himself inches away from the furious blue doe that was his grandmother.
His nose wrinkled with a boiling anger as he looked at her smaller body down the point of his nose. We can do whatever we want he began loudly, Even if that means not telling you things! As if we'd want you to know..! You always want your way and you don't think about how selfish you're being. Now he moved back to where he had been without taking his eyes off of her. He was burning with fury.

I don't care what you do to her, Willis.

"What I do to her? I

"What I do to her? I wouldn't dare harm this pitiful little doe. She's a whole fucking family to care for. To look after. Would I want to ruin that? No. How could I? he hissed, a fake sympathy in his voice, "I couldn't harm a fur on her pelt. I'm just going to do to her what needed to be done. This doe needs to be told what needs to be said." His voice grew cold, harsh. His eyes narrowed more.

"You aren't the damn Queen, Misang. Or 'Mimi', rather. You don't need to know all that is going on in your little 'kingdom'." He circled her with a slow gait. "You don't need news brought to your feet. You don't need to know everything. You aren't a fucking GOD. So stop acting like one! Acting like a whore won't get you anything but trouble!"

She listened with blazing

She listened with blazing malice and murderous eyes. Her pointed, somewhat wolf-like teeth showing. With every word her rage grew. You son of a bitch. Her thin back legs thrust off from the forest ground with huge energy, and she rammed into his shoulder with everything she had. While she was small, she held a great punch from her years of being alone and fending for herself.

Kasmir yelled, jumping up and

Kasmir yelled, jumping up and standing in front of Enthbril. FINE! Fight! See if I care! But I will NOT let Enthbril see this! She nipped at her son's shoulder, herding him away from the violent scene. He did not need to see his father and grandmother fighting. And Kasmir couldn't stop them, she was way too small. She would just have to let it arise, tend to Will's wounds, and keep Enthbril safe.
I'm sorry, Enth.. I'm so sorry... She is walking towards the old oak, where they can take refuge for the time being.
It'll be okay. Willis will be okay. Misang will be okay. You will be okay. She has tear leaking out of her eyes, and it sounds more like she's reassuring herself rather than her son. As she walks, she keeps herself as close to Enth as possible.

But I want to watch! He

But I want to watch! He complied to her nipping but couldn't keep himself from feeling fussy and tossing looks behind his shoulder as the two faced each other. Even though he was almost as big as Willis and larger than his grandmother and he was imagining himself as a triumphant orange blur in the blue fray--well, he didn't really feel like putting his growing antlers into any danger, so best to follow mom.

As soon as he felt calmer and less of a need to look behind his shoulder, he noticed that Kasmir was crying. Enthbril didn't know how to comfort her, but he gently touched his nose to her ear as they continued on. He didn't get to see Misang rocket towards Willis.

I needs me some fight

I needs me some fight music.
__
The doe's impact was suprisingly strong. The air was knocked out of him, an umcomprehensible noise escaping him. The stag was knocked aside, losing his balance. He tumbled over, slamming into a tree. With the quick jerk of his body, the little doe flew backwards. Willis struggled to regain his balance. When on all fours, he faced the doe. "Oh, so this is how its going to go. A fight. Well, let it be." He raised his head high. His eyes were blazing as they glared down at the doe. {Damnit I'm out of fighting moves} He strode forward to the doe, awaiting another blow. He lowered his head, meeting her level of vision. "Look what you've done. I said LOOK!"

He turned his head towards Kasmir and Enthbril. With an impatient grunt, he spunned around and pushed the little blue doe towards them, but kept a safe distance between them. He bent down more to whisper into her ear, "Look at this. Look at your daughter cry. Why would you want that to happen to them? What the hell runs through your head, desiring this?"
Pretzil's picture

The doe quickly regained her

The doe quickly regained her own footing after seeing him go down. The doe sucked in air, having suffered a bit from her own attack. I didn't come here to fight you, stag. Her voice was a wheeze at first, but then finished off with a very end-of-discussion tone. She looked at him with less furious eyes, but was then forced to look at her upset daughter. Misang's ears dropped just a bit, but they fell more than that on the inside. She paused for a long moment after letting him speak before turning her head to say, It is true that you are her mate now, I can see this. Another pause as she sorted her words. Then if you wish to be in this family, be assured safety from my husband goring you, then I want to see you go comfort her. She scowled at him in a somehow non-upset manner. She was serious enough to make her point. Then perhaps we can start over.

Willis nodded, accepting the

Willis nodded, accepting the blue doe's challenge. He backed away from her, walked around her, and stopped in front of Kasmir. This was the woman he loved. Nothing could come between them. Nothing. He smiled and sat beside her. "Kasi? What's wrong, dear?" The stag's words were soft, hardly a whisper. He turned his face to meet her eyes. "No one's hurt. No one. We're all fine, healthy. Its just the wrong place. The worng time. But no one's hurt, no harm's been done." The blue buck stopped, not knowing what to say. He could speak from his heart, but all that what coming from it was fear. No, no fear. No need to be afraid. What was their to be afraid of? He was here with his family now. He'd be fine. "Kasmir, I love you. I love you more than anything in the world. Nothing can change that. No, nothing. Don't cry. I'm here. I always will be, no matter what." A brief flash of memory struck him with the thought of the day he met her. It was fear. Fear of saying the wrong thing. He'd probably don't that now. He'd done something wrong, and it'd do no good. He hesitated, then pulled her close to him. Misang was nothing to him now.
Pretzil's picture

The doe stood in her place,

The doe stood in her place, watching him do as she wanted. Her large ears fixated on his words that he shushed, but she was far from deaf. There was a special sincerity in his voice that she could understand, and Misang exhaled though her black nose and set her jaw before speaking, Very well, I will for now allow you to be one of us. She had a stale taste on her tongue, she looked away. The doe remembered last time her young daughter fell in love and how all that ended. She let out an aggravated mumble under her breath at the thought of him, and her blue gaze shifted back to Enth. Do you really think you don't belong to me. Her stare narrowed by the slightest bit. I will have you know that you are sorely mistaken.
Kasmir's picture

Kasmir gladly snuggled up to

Kasmir gladly snuggled up to Willis. In an instant, she felt better. Hiccuping and sniffing, she turned to him and whispered. I love you, too... thank you, Will.. thank you for all of it... for standing up for my so--.. our son. Nothing he had done was enough to make her stop loving him.
She turned to Enthbril. I know we didn't really get off the best, love. But I love you, I really do. You're my son. There is nothing in this world that could make me stop loving you. I want you to know that.
Her gaze was soft with Enthbril and Willis, but as she turned to her mother, it turned cold. Misang, Thank you for excepting my husband, but on the matter of Enthbril, he is not yours. He doesn't belong to anyone, he is his own stag. You are his grandmother, not even biological! You are his adoptive grandmother. There is no possibillity that he could be yours. If anything, he is mine. And Will's. She realized how foriegn these words coming out of her mouth sounded about half way through her little speech, and her voice started to shake, still slightly plauged with hiccups. She needed Misang to take her seriously, though. This was important to her. No one was going to mess with her family. Not even her mother.

A small part of him withered

A small part of him withered when it turned out the fight didn't escalate how he'd hoped it. And that was any way in which he could come flying in, shake his antlers about, and come out of to gasps of wonder from onlookers. His mother spoke kind words too him, but Enthbril was a little dazed and felt content to fall into his little fantasy land until Misang's face came at him and dissolved his thoughts as easily as a stone hurled through a cloud. Before he could even think of something to say, Kasmir stepped forward, and this time he forced himself to listen.

Right then, in that moment, he couldn't remember feeling so grateful to have her as his mother! Now it was his turn to speak.
Mom is right, grandma. I don't belong to just one of you. He paused and lowered his gaze, already knowing that his next words would sound a little stupid, but he still had to say them. We're a family, and.. families belong to each other. His purple eyes met hers with a calm sort of dignity. The young buck thought it would be best to smile at her, but he somehow couldn't and instead a look of familiar epathy washed over his face. I'm sorry that--.. I made you mad.
