I've decided this will be for TEF related sculptures.
My roommate made a costume of Douglas from Where the Wild Things Are and I volunteered myself to make her mask.
WIP 6. Alejandro before shooting. Unfortunately he was not able to jump for the actual shoot. The overall appearance looks a lot better than the first draft but to make him a functional jumper I fear different materials may be necessary. However, his ears and head were sufficiently expressive to make a short animation.
WIP 4 (my roommate has decided his name is Alejandro. Legs and neck very flexible. Some stability issues- hence the weird shoes)
WIP 3 (armature needs to be rebuilt due to poor planning )
WIP 2 (wire armature and clay over wire; proportions and wire physics need significant adjustment):
Current WIP for a stop motion animation
(this body will have to be re-made with a wire armature "skeleton" inside, since the plasticine clay is too soft to support its own weight, which is why I have to hold it up)

Your snow finally arrived
ps- thank you, really, for giving me a reason to be excited and happy about winter again. I've been so down about the cold and snow for so long.
I am grateful for Pega's inspiration and that I had time between classes. The sunshine helped too.
Edit- I made another but may not be able to get a good photo before he goes away.
And thanks for the tip, when it's bright out again and I don't have class I'll try it. I keep trying to think of ways to make antlers, but outside of icicles I can't figure how to work it.

Eye~ I think to have antlers on a sitting figure you'd need to make the entire thing from ice. With snow, I'm not sure if it would be able to support the shape needed. Unless you made horns of some sort. Or...if you could find a branch to make a body-frame and another for the head and antlers you might be able to pack snow within and around it...and then build an antler by packing snow there...like this
However, you would meed a very tightly packed neck. To keep branches and all from collapsing.
^I've no idea if that would work since I haven't ever sculpted ice or snow....so... yeah ^^;;
oh my O.O that is just amazing how you could do that xD. i cant even make a snowman rofl. how long did it take you to make these in the snow its really incredable
The new one took a little over two and a half hours. It got dark before I finished and I was soaked and very cold... In retrospect, not a great idea.
I don't know if I've ever made a snowman by myself. I hadn't even made a snowball since I was a small child. So maybe if you just go and try to play you will find you can do it, too.

Agh, these look so amazing... I love especially the fawn, even though the branches as the stag´s antlers look wonderful. <3
Almost makes me want to go play in the snow again....
How did you know to send it when I didn't even ask?
Unfortunately I don't have a lot of time to play right now, but it was nice to see it come back, and quite a thing to be the only person I know happy about it.

Wow, the new sculpture looks amazing already.... can´t wait to see it finished.
And stop-motion animation? That´ll be a treat, I love your digital animation already so that must be something even more awesome. <3
Thank you kindly Shira, Spyrre.
I'm uncertain how well the figure will actually work for animation but it's very exciting to give it a try. Hopefully my teacher can give me some advice Tuesday.

Ah I've been looking at your works for a while now.. And these are really amazing <3 I couldn't help but see your work on the animation puppet.. It looks really lovely, and I bet it will work! I may have a tip for you for the skeleton, though!
Normal wire tends to bounce back when you bend it, just a slight bit but this can be annoying in animation. I would advice trying copper wire. It bends lovely and doesn't bounce back. I used neutral wire (the stuff they use in electricity cabling..? The black wire) myself, but it's very thick stuff. (Very sturdy though! Not going to break, will hold everything up for sure.)
Ah, I wish I'd gotten copper wire when I had the chance. Every resource I looked at said aluminum so I went for the closest I could find (though I don't know what this kind is made of).
If you have any other advice for me I'd be most grateful.

Aluminium is a good one too! But I couldn't find that either, which is why I went with the electricity cable.. Which worked good enough.
I guess the one you have right now may do fine as well, perhaps make it thicker by bending two wires around eachother, that may just do the trick as well. I'd bend a wire to see if it bounces back a lot or not, and if it doesn't I bet it'll work fine!
Puppet animation is always a bit.. Dodgy, I guess, you have to deal with the limits of the puppet. Though personally, I find there is a lot of charm in that.
Thank you for the advice. The wire sets still well once it's moved, but it's difficult to move parts without the clay tearing or reshaping significantly. I'm hoping I can use it for the animation, but it will be an experiment the whole way through. At least now that I have the materials it won't be expensive to remake it if it isn't functional.

Agatgatgatgat this is awesome
I wondered why you were
This is really cool though. (Pun not intended.) I love that texture you gave the snow. And that face.
I can't wait for the chance to build something else now.
That looks like fun :'D
Awesome :'3
Haha look at that! Awesome!
I got wet but I'm drying out
I'd like to try another too, Pega. Maybe one sitting up next time. It's so fun!

Did you sculpt the skulls?
Thanks, I made it out of
I'm pleased with the result, I'd like to try another someday with a hinged jaw and more accurate proportions.
Skulls are fun to make since the baked clay has a bone-like quality without any extra work.
