The Rose in the Briar patch. conclusion.

"it's nice out today, don't you think Briar?"
"gonna be a storm, I can smell it"
"don't be ridiculous, look how nice out it is!"
a lock of blue hair was tucked back, it smelled of Roses, basket slung over the smaller, but older of the duo's shoulder filled with wild rose hips and buds and a few small plants to be taken back to the nursery.
"now, what have I taught you about wild roses, Briar?"
The red head thought for a moment, then shrugged.
"they smell good?"
Rosine laughed.
"well, yes, and rose hips are used in teas, syrups and jams to prevent or cure colds because they contain much vitamin C. The cooled down tea can be used as gargle in case of inflammation in the mouth and the throat, it's a strong antiviral. and may even help with infertility and other conditions. they're supposed to be good for Depression especially, the smell of them""
"oh...yeah! I remember...what does infertility mean?"
"it's when you have trouble having kids" he replied simply.
he probably explained these things every other day, and maybe Briar would never actually remember, but he did his best.
the sky roared, and flashed.
It seemed Briar has been right.
The red haired boy simply blinked at the sound, it didn't phase him, he liked storms, rain, the sound of thunder, it soothed him.
Rosine on the other hand, had no such luck with such things.
He jumped, body trembling, and without a word he took off.
Briar tilted his head, following quickly.
"Rosie, we gotta go back the other way, it's longer but mama said we're not allowed this way when it rains"
His sibling was not in a state of mind to listen.
"Rosine, I'm here, over here, Rosie!"
he reached out to grasp his sibling by the shoulder as he made a mad dash across the mess of fallen rocks that bridged a normally pleasant and small stream.
light on his feet, slippery or not, they were easy enough for him to cross.
or he thought so anyway.
"Rosine the rocks!"
there was a small gasp from the smaller of the two.
It's amazing how slowly things move when you make a stupid mistake, as if life is taunting you, because no matter how slow things move, you cannot make them un-happen.
He was jolted back into reality at the feeling of water engulfing him, and a sharp pain to his back.
blood and water and oh god he could taste blood, it was his blood wasn't it? had to be, his back burned.
"rose!"
why was I in such a hurry why why why? should have listened, oh god oh god thunder thunder lightning don't like it no no no, Briar? Briar?
he coughed and sputtered, clinging to his younger sibling.
"you're so pale Rosie, and so cold"
his body jerked, shivering? he supposed he was, could only feel the burning of his back.
Not moving anymore, not moving.
god he was an idiot.
tangled mass of branches, here they could stay here, the storm will pass it always passes, and the river will be calm, walk to the bank later, yes walk, pain, his back hurt, so much red, was water always this red?
He squeaked as they moved.
"...I weigh to much, heh"
his eyes turned upwards, everything was hazy so hazy.
"lemme go then, lemme go..."
he winced, not in water, not in water anymore, ouch, the branches poked, but they supported him.
"Briar? Briar!...Bri?"
so much blood gone it was gone his back it hurt so much hurt, burning.
so much blood gone.
so much so much.
His eyes fluttered closed, god he was tired...
...
a bird arced through the sky, its twittering causing a pair of light periwinkle eyes to flash open.
BriarwhereBriarisgonehe'sgonegodhelp
his back hurt
the cold water bit at it as he slipped into the slow moving stream.
no red, no red, so much red last night nothing but red.
"...Rose?"
His head turned, wading towards the noise.
"'s dark, don't like the dark...'m so tired"
but your eyes were so open.
"no, no no no, don't sleep don't sleep I'm here right here don't die don't die"
those vacant eyes of his sibling's, they seemed to shine, not something that made him think of death.
"Will I disappear when you close your eyes for the last time?"
Briar was all he had, without Briar, he wasn't anything...
"you won't be sad long Rosie" he smiled, eyes fluttering closed lightly.
"Roses are good for depression...
...
smells like Roses"
...Briar...
Briar?
Briar!
...
forgive me..."
