ReBirth :: A Short Story (pilot)

Authors Note: I've decided to hop on the bandwagon and create my own story too! Dunno how far this will go, but eh, I'll have fun with it. This is a pilot short story, to see how well I get on with this. XD Its not the beginning or anything, just a short excerpt. Actually the scenes in this story are sortof derived from around chapter 7-8 of SarieBearies "Magpie Songs" story. 8D Well, here goes nothin'

-A Short Story-

The steady drone that reverberated from the inside of the Old Oak was a incessant pressure on GoldenWinged's head and it was beginning to give her a headache. She hated this tree, she would never be inside it on any normal day. However, she had business to attend to....

As her eyes began to close, she noticed two deer figures coming her way, leaning on each other as if they were one big eight-legged deer. When the figures hit the shade of the Oak, they could be identified as Vipin leaning on his younger sister, Aspen. Her eyes snapped open, getting up half in relief of seeing them and being out of that irritating noisy tree.

Her head flicked to the both of them, judging their looks. Aspen, a shorter, more muscular doe, was trying to stand her straightest, to keep Vipin on four hooves. Her jaw clenched and her lips thinned as she nudged him to go a few feet farther. Her eyes were alight with determination, wanting everyone around her to know she was strong enough to support herself and her brother. As she neared GoldenWinged her expression softened a bit, but a stoic look seemed to linger in her eyes.
The stag that she was supporting was none other than her older brother, Vipin. His gentle masculine face was contorted in pain as he winced with every step, finally coming to rest inside the Oak, with GoldenWinged and Aspen to help him down.

His magpie pelt in differing shades of blue and white was sticking up in places, and GoldenWinged could still see the bruises and cuts caused by that freakish stag that wreaked havoc on the forest a few nights ago. Aspen seemed to notice this too, as she leaned over him and smoothed out his fur with her Magpie mask's beak, with a motherly gentleness.

"So how was your walk today?" GoldenWinged's yellow eyes locked with his light grey ones.
"All right, I'm getting better." Vipin mumbled, looking off to the side. Aspen snorted over his pelt.
"Oh sure, insisting that you take a drink unsupported and fell on the way back to me, yeah, thats making some progress..." She replied in a sarchastic tone, which made her brother grunt and stare daggers at her through the dark magpie mask covering his face. As he whipped his head around to glare at Aspen, his large Kirin antlers nearly clipped GoldenWinged in the face and she made an indignant sound, bringing Vipin's attention back to her.
"Oi!" She said, nipping at the side of Vipins mask, "Stay still, you! I'm trying to check your injuries."

Vipin slowly turned back to face her, sighing as she poked and patted at his injured leg.
"It's broken." GoldenWinged mumbled, warranting another snort from Aspen, and a glare in return from Vipin.
"I'll try to pop it back in place." GoldenWinged looked up at Vipin with a questioning glance. Vipin nodded slowly.
Taking his hoof in hers, she used a gentle pressure on the lower part of his leg, where a part of bone stuck out, making his leg look gnarled and disfigured. The pressure increased, and Vipin grunted in discomfort.
"Just a few moments more--" GoldenWinged said through clenched teeth.
"Let me see if I can do it--" Vipin tried to pipe in, but GoldenWinged would have none of it.
"No, I've got it under control, just stay still."
"It hurts, I'll try doing it... Ouch! Are you trying to kill me?!"
Vipin nosed his magpie mask in GoldenWinged's view, trying to do the job himself, while tiny bouts of giggles came from Aspen. Somehow, amidst the arguments and laughter in the background from Aspen and passers-by, Vipins Magpie mask and GoldenWinged's Real Deer mask were pushed aside in the small scuffle, and they only stopped moving when they found they were mere inches from each others face, lips nearly touching, and gentle slate eyes staring into brilliant gold ones. Vipin's lips parted in surprise, his beautifully angular face held in the sharp relief of blue, white and black. GoldenWinged flicked her eyes down and up, her brown-framed beige face delicately curved in bewilderment, slowly becoming a gentle smile.

After several seconds they gathered their bearings and went to set their masks right, distracting themselves with the task. GoldenWinged's Real Deer mask snapped back into place, and that familiar sensation overtook her face, curving it into the likeness of a common earth-deer. She blinked a few times, clearing her vision. She looked up at Vipin, seeing that his mask was back in its place as well, their blushed faces both covered well beneath fur and feathers.
"We'll just ahm, let it heal on its own, aye?" GoldenWinged smiled sheepishly.

"Aye."
