I'm actually scouting for a new series to start after demolishing the newest discworld book and am willing to take suggestions.
Any genre though I prefer science fiction/fantasy.
It'd take me forever to name every series I already have read/am reading so if you name one I've already plowed through I'll give mention of that fact AND probably try to talk to you about it. x)
Not too many of my friends read the same books I do so it's refreshing to play 'book club' with the community and rant/rave about happenings.
I'll happily give suggestions if asked also.
I just want to talk about books. x)

Just finished the last one, quite a good read.

I'm pretty sure I have child
XD I suck at explaining
But it's a really good fantasy read; really devoloped characters, a believeable romance, good plot, but it's pretty dark and gorey at times. But that's why I love it, I love seeing the not so sunshine and buttercups everything-turns-out-okay-because-we're-awesome-and-magical fantasy storie, it drags you down into a deep dark pit (literally at one point) where the horrors that make us less than human take place. But it's also a tale of redemption; how we have to live with the mistakes we made but if we're willing to work for it we can make it right again.
And the literature buff in me comes out XD
I think something I said to someone while desribing this series went something like, "I finally found a fantasy series that didn't fail at also being good literature." There's a good deal of really awesome modern fantasy/sci-fi, but for all the good stuff I kept picking up crap that could not hold any literary merit. I love all of the old classics from people like Jack London, Oscar Wilde, Harper Lee, etc. So I automatically look for something in a book that can go up to par with them. Yet apparently I can't pick a fantasy novel off the bookshelf that can supply that, until now at least. It doesn't show a ground-breaking literary movement or supply satirical comments on the plotical and social erros of the day like a lot of the classics did, but the guy can actually write and make a good, developed plot line/characters.
And the characters themselves are wonderful. They're not all perfect and valiant heroes, a lot of them are messed up pretty bad, yet end up doing semi-heroic things. Even if the methods they use aren't so heroic. At some points you love them and sympathize with them, and at other times you want to beat them with the nearest blunt object for being so horrible.
But I digress, I could go on in literature dork-mode all day, but you should explore the site to see more of what it's about in a more understandable way XD
Anything by Robin Hobb
Anything by Neil Gaiman (Strange and interesting stories)
The Algebraist by Ian M Banks (SF, very funny to read, especially the later parts of the book)
The Abarat series by Clive Barker (Original and colourful series about another world)
Tell me if you want more information about any of them, I'm too lazy to write it all down
I love books! I'm having so
Science fiction/Fantasy are my fav' genres too. I'll list a few of my latest favorites, not sure if they sound interesting to you. You can always ask me for more information if so!
The Animorphs-Series by K. A. Applegate
Scott Westerfeld's series (e.g. Peeps, Uglies/Pretties/Specials/Extras, Midnighters)
Walter Moers' Zamonia books... they're German, but I think a few of them are translated into English too.
Bartimaeus by Jonathan Stroud. ;] I know right, but I love 'em.
Darren Shan-books by Darren Shan (who would've thought... the lately published movie "Cirque du Freak" is based on them, however the books are much better than the movies)
Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy & following by Douglas Adams. MUCH LOVE.
Tad Williams' books (e.g. the Osten Ard saga or the Otherland saga. *A*)
Night Watch saga by Sergej Lukianenko.
... and many moar.
I'm currently reading the
@Alecsander: You’ll love

I'm going to have to read
Quote:the Night Angel Trilogy
I SECOND THAT! 8D
I also highly suggest:
Mrs. Frisby and the rats of Nimh by Robert C. O'brien (short, easy read but very wonderful with a nice quick plot that isn't too fast but not too slow. It's one of my absolute favorites <333)
Watership Down by Richard Adams (It's about...well...rabbits XD It's a little slow in the middle (in my opinion) but it picks up later on.)
The Sight, Fell, and Firebringer by David Clemment Davies (All three are awesome reads. The Sight and Fell are a series about wolves while Firebringer is about Red deer)
Firebringer Trilogy by Meredith Ann Pierce (A series of books about unicorns. I'm sure the subject matter sounds rather silly but I assure you that these books are just plain awesome, definitely not your typical unicorn series. It's been quite some time since I've read the books so I can't really remember much plot wise, but it's a great read :3)
If any of those catch your interest, just ask. I'll try to tell more about them if I can XD (I'm horrible at explaining things)

These other suggestions I may look into as well - you can never have too many books to read!
For me, I enjoyed reading the Sevenwaters trilogy: Daughter of the Forest, Son of the Shadows, and Child of the Prophecy, by Juliet Marillier. Has alot of Irish magic and folklore (though it's a Grimm Brothers tale), if you like that sort of stuff

Recently I've read books like
I recommend Night World as well as I adore the collection. Oh! I just remembered Flowers for Algernon and The Last Concubine. The first one is about a patient who gets an injection to become more intelligent and the second is geisha-related but not really. Either way, I tend to enjoy books related to geishas so I would recommend Memoirs of a Geisha as well.
Just some books I really enjoy, haha.
I think i watched the movie
-starts putting books on hold at library-
The entire Discworld series
I second the Dark Tower series, though I've heard that the ending is...less than satisfying.
House of Leaves by Mark Z Danielewski is an amazing book, if strange and unusual. Read it in the day, with the lights on. Psychologically terrifying.
I second the Hitchhiker's recommendation, of course.
Anne McCaffrey's Pern books are all excellent as well.
If you're willing to read things a bit geared towards young adults/teens, I recommend:
Any Bruce Coville book. Short, but if you're a fast reader, they're a great way to kill an hour or two.
The Giver, by Lois Lowry. Bring a hankie.
Invitation To The Game, by Monica Hughes, is a ridiculously awesome book that I practically destroyed, I read it so many times as a teenager.
If you're willing to broaden your horizon to comics(not all of which are BAM! SMAK! JAB! like Batman), I recommend the following:
The Maxx. EPIC comic. Bring a hankie.*
V For Vendetta*
Watchmen*
Sandman
Deadpool**
Fray, done by Joss Whedon of Buffy and Firefly fame.*
Bone.*
That's enough for now. I probably have more lurking in my head.
* = If you want, I can get this available for you.
** = I only have the 97 run of Deadpool - in my opinion, it's the best of the lot anyway.
Hurf, Bylah, I was gonna say
Hmmm.. If you enjoy free-verse poetry, I highly reccomend Sharp Teeth, I loved it, a very unique and modern story.
Also, it's not fantasy, but I loved The Story of Edgar Sawtelle, sort of a moden Hamlet, and hands-down, one of my favourites.
I second whomever said House
Anything by Chuck Palahniuk. Rant is my favourite, personally. Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas by Hunter S. Thompson, or Trainspotting by Irvine Welsh. Both are about drugs, both were made into movies, and both are excellent. Anything by Christopher Moore if you're looking for something humorous and amusing. Unlimited Dream Company by J.G Ballard is pretty messed up, but I think it kind of has fantasy-esque aspects to it.
Good luck, I hope you find something you like!
Dean Koontz's old stuff
> >
one of my favourite authors
Read the first book of his Abhorsen trilogy, "Sabriel".
Or for more scary holocaust monstery scifi/fantasy stuff read his "Shades Children" book.
I grew up on Tamora Pierce's works ~ still enjoy it. Girly fantasy knights and magic lol <3 and of course John Marsdens "Tomorrow When the War Began" series is A M A Z I N G. im re-reading it at the moment.
I also hear that "game of thrones" series is very good.
