There is a sort of melancholy air about the little blue stag, as if happiness had long been cast away for a more somber sort of petty contentment. Of course, he often didn't 'laugh'. Laughing was rare for him, especially now at times such as these.
The tiny thing was well hidden under a series of brambles that he had found earlier, his soft eyes half-open, and glazed over with sleep. There were so many deer up and about lately, so it was only natural that he would hide himself, shy fellow that he was.
His antlers, which had once been teeming with flowers, were now practically bare. Nothing was left besides the glossy black thorns that curled about them. His blue pelt was, for the most part, clean, save for the dried blood that stained his underbelly.
Oh, don't jump to conclusions, as it wasn't his own blood. Of course not, silly.
His mind buzzed about with frantic, worrying thoughts, but they were all quickly thrust aside when he heard the horrid sound of leaves crunching underneath hooves.
Someone was coming...
The little stag tensed himself, eyes bluging in fright. He snuffed the air, frantically turning his head back and forth before he could pinpoint the scent...
Wait...
Briar!
He jumped to his feet, tail wagging excitedly as he romped over to the intruding red stag, coating his legs in nuzzles. He sighed in audible relief, and leaned against the stag's front legs, careful not to let the thorns on his own 'antlers' cut him.
"Warn me next time, Briar!" Rosine giggled softly, burying his face into his little brother's fur. The large... no... huge stag promptly flopped to the ground and plopped his massive head onto the little stag's back, keeping it up slightly so as to not crush his older brother underneath his weight.
"You don't smell much like roses anymore..." he mused, flicking a tattered ear, not even wincing in the slightest as it cut against the wires upon his antlers, leaving a small trickle of blood in it's wake. "You smell like chocolate and daisies... like love." he nodded, as if clarifying himself to be sure.
The blue stag further nestled himself into Briar's fluff, his voice slightly muffled. "Hmm... Jergy woke up... I guess that's why..." he mumbled, his little body trembling in delight.
Briar blinked slowly, salmon flesh eyes glittering in unseen intellegence. "Uncle Jergy smells like sick..." he murmured. "Smells like roses, too." he added, tilting his head a bit. Rosine nodded, pleased with himself.
"That's why my roses are gone, Briar, because I made a paste from them to help Jergens feel better." he paused, thinking for a moment, "Do you remember what I told you about how roses can help kill bacteria?" he asked.
Briar thought.
And thought...
And thought...
And thought...
"Nope!" he replied cheerily, his longish tail thumping against the ground joyfully.
The blue stag simply stared at him.
And laughed.
