While playing Vasska, I try and be sensitive to when the player is telling me OOC to bug off.
IC: "in character" (the character is reacting)
OOC: "out of character" (the player is reacting)
What I take as OOC "please leave me alone":
✗ Airsitting on nothing (if you airsit in a tree, I often take this as IC)
✗ Bow + no
✗ Posting on my characters' bios. As a personal note, I'm not very fond of this one. I appreciate clarifications of "no meant I was saying no" in the forest, but if an OOC motion hasn't first been made in the forest by the other player, I find it demeaning. Why should I be forced to make my deer OOC if the other person hasn't made a similar motion? It's discourteous, in my opinion, although I'm certainly open to other ideas.
This is an extremely short list, and I've seen deer recently that use "bow+no" while in character. The only thing I've found to be fool-proof is airsitting on nothing.
I almost never take a simple headshake (no) as an OOC message to me, because I've been around too many deer who do this IC. The only exception is when it's a radical shift from anger/happiness to "no," as in, the person has popped out of character. When that happens, I leave just in case.
Anyone care to add on to this tiny list?
Additions:
✗ Groundtapping + "no"
✗ Headspamming "no"
✗ "no" + sit down (w/ back to the player)
Tracking because I love these
Airsitting
Standing/moving away + tapping the ground + headshake 'no'
tapping the ground + headshake 'no' in general
tracking this as well~
adorable art by Tuoho! ♥
I am still kinda new here so
"Out of character" and "In
I am always in and out of character simultaneously in the forest, because brd is me. He is only different from me in that he is a human-faced stag in the forest. His feelings and thoughts are mine and mine are his.
I don't strive to be the best, but instead I strive to do my best, and always give it my all every time.

Oh I see. Thank you Eyestrain
I shake my head to mean I am
I don't bother combining actions, but it's interesting to read that some others require it.
I like to sit by unfamiliar deer but often it seems to bother and ruffle them.
Sorry, Shika :3 I'll add
Interesting input, guys!
Eyestrain, I didn't know thatt >> That's so fitting. You'll be sure to let me know if any of my chars' actions in-forest upset you, won't you? ♥
RaQu; Ninja~ That's very interesting. I enjoy the forest for its roleplaying qualities, and I usually end up creating characters whose personalities challenge me... As in, they're pretty far away from my own personality. While I understand the meaning of "no," my Vasska does not, so he would not stop. It's necessary for me to make the decision to pull him away if I feel like the other player is getting irritated. If I ever found out my Vasska had driven you to logging off because I didn't understand you were you and not a deer, I'd feel really bad about it XD
hm maybe also if someone
...though... these two things are pretty much self explanentory as well... hmm *is not very helpful*
...for me it is that i tend to let my deer spam the headshake no... if i feel 'oocly pissed' xD and if that doens't help I either go airsitting somewhere... or disconnect for a few minutes.
I think I need to clear up my
The mini with the nightfall pelt who was trying to ward off Vasska was my doe being in character.
She was infuriated with him,but I found it quite funny xD And I almost never find anyone annoying on here.
This is a good list,i'll track ^^
I usually shake my head and
If someone particularly annoys me I can also get angry at that person and taunt, followed by shaking my head, but I usually would rather just leave where the annoying deer is.
In the few cases that these deer follow me I am more likely to disconnect, but I don't often want to or have to
I usually take airsit as a
as for my own actions, i can't really recall to have been in-forest and also wanting to be left alone. xD i'd rather not go in in the first place. but i do use bow+no as an in-character action. also i've seen myself do sudden taunts and then leave if someone really pisses me off as a player, but usually just towards strange deer being really rude without a good reason.
aldebaran; Ahh yes,
Wingeddeer; Yess, your IC actions came across very nicely XD I felt very much that you were in character, although it'd good to hear it from you as a player, as well~
Panda; Oooh nice ones~ *adds*
mini; I've done the same thing myself to a couple people I suspected were trolls. I have no patience for that. Although realistically if they're trolls, they wouldn't understand the signals, so idk haha~
I notice sometimes people
It's so hard to tell, isn't
Most of the actions listed here could very well be IC actions still.
Even airsitting... unfortunately. My deer once chased a deer who would airsit(even on nothing), and it was still IC(or so I took it, when I asked the player if my characters actions were bothersome). My character will airsit sometimes, or hide under the big rock at the playground, though I/my character are still purely IC.
The most clear sign is when the deer logs off. I've had this happen on more than one occasion. I never intend to chase someone off of the game, though I know that sometimes my deers actions can easily be taken as 'trolling'. - If the other deer logs off, I know something is wrong... and now, as sad as it sounds, is the only way I know the other deer/player isn't up for that kind of interaction.
If the deer has a bio up, and there is no warning there that it is an OOC deer, I automatically assume it is just that, a character, and it is being played ICly.
In short, it's just too hard to tell anymore... so I just play my character, and really nowadays... just restrict her to a certain group of other deer/players to avoid conflict in general. - I sometimes still get the courage to have her approach new deer, but it's becoming less and less.
I guess despite all of that though, airsitting in general would be the clearest sign...
I see when deer listen then
Personally I think tapping
I don't do it very often, but
I do usually follow that action with a nuzzle to say goodbye, and sometimes another bow (integrated with the nuzzle usually) just as a 'thank you for understanding' and to let them know it's okay.
My general observation is that people tend to over-think this. I just do it to be polite; it's not their fault they wanted to say hi and play with me. How dare they be nice! lol.
As of late, I've typically
I refuse to bow because I don't like bowing to someone that refuses to mind my personal space, and I hate head shaking, because it's such a "subtle" action, that I think most players would just ignore it, or not even see it. I've had a low tolerance for being close to anyone that's irritating me as of late. And I've had a low tolerance for standing still and motioning "No" to them. I just want to have distance between them.
I would like to add in the
Taunt + Shaking his head No - Means he does not want to be bothered (Or if he is spammed/Spelled it is a sign not to do it again)
Bellow/Moo + No - Again, means No to him and it trying to get the hint across.
Listen + Listen quickly to get the head shake followed by No - Again, Means No and to Leave him Be.
Those would be the major two, I want players to understand that when he does these things it's not as a game or Out of Character. It is Nightmare IN character telling you to bugger off :U
"Your efforts are insignificant! I carry you to your deaths!"
^I read your siggy as 'make
