Questions about the game!

Hi, Nicsiii here, I'm a complete newbie.

So I have a few questions;
1. Why are there cross-graves in the ruins? Was there some sort of Christian conversion thing going on somtime ago, are crosses just cool, why are they there?
2. There isn't any verbal communication, and I kind of like that! Makes it more interesting making a language and stuff... but is there an official community list of meanings for certain gestures? Also, is there a way to use hotkeys for gestures instead of clicking? Clicking quickly on the icons is pretty cumbersome on my small-screened computer!
3. From drinking at De Drinkplaats, what animals can you become? A crow, a rabbit, etc.

Hey there, gonna try my best

Hey there, gonna try my best to answer these questions for you
1. The Ename ruins were one of, if not the first places in the game (if I remember right..), and so there's no solid reason for them having crosses as far as I know (kind of like the stumps around the forest and the bridge indicating people) but I found this on the TEF website which might give some insight into why there are crosses on the graves.
Saint Hubert
Another aspect of the Ename Ruin project has been inspired by the legend of Saint Hubert. He is the patron saint of a region in Wallonian Belgium called the Ardennes. ... Saint Hubert was a nobleman who converted to Christianity around 700 after receiving a vision of a crucifix betweeen the antlers of the stag he was hunting. He became the first bishop of Liège and evangelized the Ardenne region, converting the pagans.

2. I, like probably most other players, just picked up on language as I went along. Things mean generally what you'd expect them to though, and by observing other players you'll discover more about how to convey your deer's feelings and attitude through the actions that are available. You can use hotkeys by highlighting the icon you wish to assign a key to and pressing the keys F1-F12. Say, if you highlight the 'moo' icon and press F4, it'll be mapped to F4. Smiling
3. Squirrel, rabbit, crow, frog, dove, bat- and I think that's it.

1. There was an event to

1. There was an event to promote the game which involved converting "souls", and the souls converted would become gravestones. As found here.

Quote:
If you found such a soul (a blue glowing orb with sparkles), a new button would appear in your action strip. You could use it to convert this pagan soul. If you, and other users, did a good enough job, by the end of the day, a grave would be erected near the ruin. If you'd failed and the majority of the remaining souls were still unchristened, a pagan idol would show up. Every day of the exhibition, a grave or an idol was added. The size of these depends on the amount of visitors of that day.

The part about Saint Hubert was part of it as well, and the creators were also inspired by cathedrals.

2. There are actually "official" meanings found here, but players use them for multiple things beyond just what's listed there. There are common uses that can for the most part be learned by observing, and sometimes people will include their own actions/meanings in a post somewhere.

3. I think Evern has it. You can become any of these animals by having someone cast a spell on you obtained by sleeping in a mushroom circle. That same spell can also turn you into a mini-deer, but you can't became a mini-deer through De Drinkplaats.

Thank you both! So there was

Thank you both! So there was an event thingy, sounds neat. So makiung up the meanings is up to the player, actually?

Yeah Just keep in mind it's

Yeah

Just keep in mind it's best to keep it short and simple if you string a few together for a certain action you make up, because people may forget/get confused.

Pretty much, if you want to,

Pretty much, if you want to, but just keep in mind not everyone who plays is on the community site, and there's the risk of being misunderstood if you make them too different from what most people use.

I hope you don't mind me

I hope you don't mind me placing another newbie question here, I think it requires too simple of an answer to make another blog, haha. It's more about forums then the actual game though

But how do you track a blog/thread?? I've seen interesting topics, then people commenting "track." It's to let you know about updates, right? I can't find the button or anything I can click on to track a post (or a user?) so that I may follow the updates.

You can "track" a blog by

You can "track" a blog by commenting on it. When you go to your account page, there's a link that says "track" at the top. Going there will show everything you've commented on, and you'll be able to see which ones have new comments or have been updated.

You just gotta make a post on

You just gotta make a post on someones thing and it puts it in your track. People generally just put "track" if they want to put it in their track for future commenting or just to keep track of whatever it is.
