A Pondering of an Observation about Creative Expression

You know, why are there wars in the arts?

Art is an expression of the self set forth not necessarily for an audience but just a bubbling out of inner creativity that sometimes can be for joy or molded into a living for pay.

In music there is this constant debate between classical musicians, rock musicians and of course church musicians and all us that just love the art and participate out of the joy of it. They are always arguing and ranking which is better and who is the better artist-----including and excluding--the truth is the same chords, notes sounds and the overtones or chromatics are the same whether its jazz, rock, Beethoven, a lovely Eastern tune or a kid making a song up.

In art the tools change but the colors are the colors and it is in the mixing that the tones and beauty come out yet here too there is a debate between crayons, digital, oil, acrylic etc. and then there is writing ---the same scribblings, letters, words, sentences, organizational structure in any language whether writing for SEO or a novel or an academic paper are the same and yet here too you see a developing trend that is not positive.

And yet when one looks over the ages and at new artists-- the ones that create something that catches our attention often have used the skill of synthesis to create their expression and it appeals to a wide audience exactly for that reason because in it you find a piece or a part of you--a reflection. The arts present truth in a different fashion or sometimes even the lies in a different fashion, and if so why not be different from what the rest of the world does? I refuse to throw any of it away and call one better than the other or participate in such. Only to encourage and share something positive so people keep expressing life through art. Each level or type I have done has taught me a lesson, given me joy and healing, a way to let out pain safely and a way to be fully me. Why would I want to ever take those experiences away from some one else? Why would any other artist do that to another? Just sayin.

There is no progress without

There is no progress without competition.

Why should anyone seek to outdo anyone if everyone agrees that everything is equal on a fundamental level.

Without some disliking while some love, and vice versa, things stagnate and become boring.
Like throwing a stone into the water.

Would the artists we so adore be here if they had not been driven to become what they are?
Art changes, and art grows, because the will to do better makes it so.

Interesting. Explain to me

Interesting. Explain to me the masterpieces that did not become so until after the artist died. There was no competition only a discovery of their expression after the death. Some pieces it was years later that the culture accepted them for what they were ---- Other pieces are called great actually are an expression of something common in the culture at the time and as that culture progresses they fade and become known as a cult. I am not totally against competition, but when it becomes more important than the relationships and the other artist's own style of expression then that is no longer creative expression of each individual but a sophisticated technique of domination and control and it kills all creativity. I agree artists are driven, but not by competition but by an inner need to express their own thoughts and desires not another persons or a cultures need. I did not mention equal--I stated emphatically creative, individual personal expression in all its diversity and wonder. The ripple a stone makes in the water at any view small or large is a beautiful site.

You didn't use the word

You didn't use the word 'equal' no. But I felt you were implying that all art was equal because all art was an expression of emotion. Which sadly, simply, isn't the case.

Yes, they became famous after they died, but do you honestly think that they thought; 'I hope I become famous after I die and can't appreciate it'

Or who knows, maybe they did, I'm not a particularly emotion driven person.

Art is a mixture of the two. How to show emotion, and whom can show it better.

Then again, are we delving into art as art, or art as a form of communication? If someone draws an image to tell me something true and directly, I consider it on the same level as a nonfiction book. It's interesting and I can appreciate that it's well done, but that's all.

And of course, there's also my personal vendetta against written art vs visual art. I've quite a terrible irascibility when it comes to that.

In the end, no matter how much emotion a piece shows, people will always appreciate more, and therefore strive more towards, well done art which shows less emotion over badly done art with more.

But I could be, and probably am, wrong. I'm a hyper-logic person. I have difficulty with the concept of emotion in general.

No equal or implying Mr.

No equal or implying Mr. Sanguine just expression. There is nothing wrong with being logical at times I am that myself, but the truth is we are logic and emotional, sinner and saint, right and left etc. all the time in the same moment. I agree there are differing points of view on this and it depends on the approach taken. I was writing a pondering from the point of creative expression, but your point on looking at it as a form of communication is interesting and may result in an entirely different perspective. I would have to ponder that out or have you all ready done that. Smiling Communication is a two way street what I put out in art and mean may not be the same message as what your senses and thought processes come to a conclusion about. Then there is those with much experience that have a long sight into how their art, expression and response changed over time. It is art and fulfilled some of its delights. Once I express my art then the one who chooses to view it has their own experience. Your wonderful points reminded of that. What is well done art? How do you define that? What is well done for one person may not seem that way to another? Sometimes when I am expressing I do not wish to be in a well done state, but the emotion is raw, primitive, messy and generally in your face. Sometimes I wish to please someone I love or care about and so give art as a part of myself. How can we include some but leave out others? With art you cannot it is what it is at the time. Thank you for the deep meaningful conversation and your views. We each have our own reality and it is in relationship we learn to see the world through the other person's eyes. I enjoyed seeing the world through your eyes. maybe that is what art does.
