Sims 2 or Sims 3?

I'm going to buy one for this laptop since my old CD exploded. Aaaand I know what 2 is like since I've played it lots. But I have no idea what 3 is like, so I guess I'm mainly asking whoever's played both. Which one is better?

oyeah AND EXPLAIN WHY PLZ. I'm going to stop counting votes after a certain number to get a fair percentage. >:3 -retarded-

Well I just found a site that has downloads on it, but I'm not sure if they're free or not...

Then again, I have 2 on my other computer, so if I wanted I could just alternate between the two. :U

My input: S3 has hardly any

My input: S3 has hardly any fun downloads and you are more or less stuck with what the game gives you, which is meh at best. But you get to do a lot more stuff and customize the personalities and what not a lot better. But I still like having the ability to download anything for 2, so it gets my vote. Plus 3 always runs slower for me. And they have weird scary faces like mannequins or something. :c

And of course my words have already been said. 8D

I've played both. If your computer can handle it, I think you should get it. The Sims 3 is gorgeous in every respect (well except for the faces... in my opinion they were odd and strangely unvarying (maybe I'm not creative with faces)). The hairstyles were very limited from what I remember and yes, you do have to pay for more things (however I have not checked to see if this has changed). What The Sims 3 offers is very neat, but if you're like my sister and I, and have played since the first Sims, you might find yourself a little disappointed. I honestly think the Sims 3 concentrated more on making itself look pretty. I still remember the wonderment I felt when my sister and I upgraded from the first Sims. We didn't feel that with the third. My sister was very into customization (I just liked raising Sims), but we both stopped playing this one faster than any of the previous games.

edit: Oh, I forgot to add - I think my favorite thing about The Sims 3 is that you could change the textures of practically everything. I had so much fun making unique outfits and dresses with the patterns the game had. So that was a very big plus.

But, I have Sims 3, which... I like, but yes, creepy faces and icky hairstyles are kind of a turnoff. D:

But I do like the seamless neighborhood, (not so many load times, THANK GAWD.) , the fact that the Sims don't have to pee EVERY FIVE SECONDS, and the wide variety of customization options for clothes and furniture. I'm thinking of teaching myself how to mesh and all that jazz so I can make my own stuff to make my Sims pretty. :T

On the other hand, Sims 2 has plenty of downloads and expansion packs, and the Sims are much prettier. Oh, and I love having pets, I feel so alone without pets, but hopefully they'll have an expansion for that in 3.

It's a tough choice, but I'll throw my vote out there for 3. Maybe, if we're patient, good downloads and expansions will come along. (:
