I think a lot of the second gen. pictos were really lovely to be honest, so I don't think third gen. pictos will be all that terrible
M&A like to keep the Forest pretty and artsy so I'm sure they'll come up with some nice bits and pieces.

I've been on a few websites before, where as if your account is inactive for a certain period of time, it becomes disabled, also meaning that any other new member can take that username again. Imagine if M and A did this, and the usernames being the Gen1 picto's. This way all the Gen 1's that are no longer being used can be recycled. They can leave out the Gen 2's, no one really cares about those.

Although there a few Gen2's which do look very nice. I found one which I liked. Not the best, but it's very simple. This is another really weird one I got on the night they released. Looks seriously messed up in-game though rofl.

I've seem a lot that look similar to one another.. there are several out there that are similar to mine, but since I see it all the time, I can see the differences. I saw one earlier that was the EXACT same as another deer except it was missing just one line. As much as I like the gen.1 pictos, the gen. 2s aren't so bad. They do seem to lack something, but still not horrible.

Quad: I think it's all these people who make multiple accounts, especially when they don't use them. I have only two accounts, the other I plan to use a little more once my fawn is grown. But think about it.. how many accounts does everyone have?? 2 here.

Yeah, i believe the "M"s especially were just a far to complex figure to incooperate them into the system.


I use Firefox and it's in german so this is freely translated, but Starling, if you go to the register page, right click on the page, chose "current frame" and then "show frame source code".

Or shorter version, here and check source code. You should be able to see the True Names next to a number. 1 is always the newest. In theory this number should equal the amount of pictos registered.
It's neat because this way you can find out how early you registered, by searching your true name

Yes but if you look at the True Names the last few are gen1s and empty registers. M&A testing I assume. :b The very last gen2 is the 43525 one.

The Gen1 have just as many messy pictograms as the Gen2 in my opinion - it's just a more geometric looking mess

I'm hoping maybe the next generation M&A will put a limit on how many accounts one person can have. It would make players alot more dedicated to their pictos if they knew they couldn't make more accounts on a whim.

As a frantic picto-hoarder myself, I hope to give my leftover gen2s to other people at some point. I have a few nice-looking ones.

I don't really have an answer to the question that you posed, but I guess that I can touch on a couple of the topics that were addressed here. If not for anyone but myself. *shrugs*

I honestly don't care for many of the second generation pictograms, but I think that M&A did a great job considering.

However, while I love some of the first generation pictograms, I still, too, remember seeing some that were horrendous. I only claimed a few second generation pictos for myself, but some of them, (Marluxia's, for example), can be as pretty as some of the first generation ones. It was just a matter of patience in finding them.

That being said, I am noticing that a lot of them are starting to look eerily similar to one another.

As for the idea of having inactive accounts disabled, perhaps it's selfish of me, but I'd rather not see that happen. Yes, I have a lot of accounts, but people that know me know that I still make use of every one of them and I'd hate to find one suddenly taken from me because I hadn't played the character for x amount of time. I think that it would also pose a problem for people who leave for an extended period of time and eventually come back. And would this be a matter of community site inactivity or in-game inactivity? Because a lot of people have several deer/accounts in-game, but link them all to one main account here.

I think that there will come a time when we run out of pictograms again, but I honestly don't know if we've already come close to that point or not. The Endless Forest's popularity has increased significantly, (just look at all of the new faces around here), so it's only a matter of time. I just wonder if a new generation is possible and what it'd look like.

When I said about the inactive accounts, I meant like a long period of time before they were deleted. The site I have been on before which did a similar thing deleted my account well after a year, because I had an email being sent through. Although I did also get a notification beforehand saying something like "If you do not log into your account within the next week, then it will be permanently deleted" etc etc.

Although now I'm thinking about it, it probably wouldn't work out. In Unplugged's quotes blog, I remember reading something along the lines that M&A see the different generations counting towards the whole "story" of the endless forest or something. So to see generations being recycled, would ruin the whole thing.

Still to this day do I regret that. 3 was an active user at the time, using that picto, but now she does't and I'm so godamn annoyed sjdsjsdfrt. I still hate myself for that. I wish I had just given it back to you.

Unplugged, I do like Cruner and Flies both.

I just feel like the pictos are getting too similar, whether it is a problem with the randomization system or just too few bits to make a picto.

As far as ugly first gen. pictos, just take a look at my profile here :/ Four years ago, I was obsessed with keys, locks and what not. Four years ago, my oldest and first picto looked like a key hole of sorts. Not anymore.

It would also be nice if we could somehow make our own. For something that isn't as recognizable as text, I know it is probably impossible.. but have set pieces and have a set amount of how many you can use at a time.. I don't know, just throwing it out there. I don't see all the hype over gen. 1s.. BUT, I do LOVE the swirls. If I could have one with swirls, even if it was just one, I would be in love, lol.

I gotta say, when I made my second account with the gen. 2.. After awhile of going through the pictos.. they seemed to repeat themselves.. I think that may be another problem.. I got bored with looking, so I assume other people would too. I eventually stuck with this for Runki. It's simple, but I saw several that looked quite like it. There was something about it though that just said, "HAPPY!!" Lol. I have seen several in forest with the two upper rounded pieces, but not with both the top and bottom.

Just another idea.. maybe we could change them, and the one we no longer use are put into a "bank" were others can look for them and reuse them?

I don't know. It would just be nice though if people (not that I am judging) would just stick to a couple.. I'd say... four at most, and not get anymore, I'm sure there are tons out there that have been taken and aren't being used at all anymore. Say for example, someone stops using their email address that they registered their account for.. why are those ones just sitting there, not being used, and nothing is being done about it? I forgot who said it on here, but the idea of sending an email (or two) saying, "If you don't log in within this amount of time, your account will be deleted," that's a good idea. I say it sucks because when I was a kid I would get grounded for LONG periods of time, so the time frame of when it hasn't been used and when you would need to log in would have to be pretty large in order to be fair.

I would have to agree with pictos looking similar. I've noticed quite a few that I can't readily distinguish from one another.
As far as gen.1 vs gen.2 pictos, I happen to LOVE my gen. 2 pictos! I think I got a little lucky, though. My first picto is simple and reminds me of a buck - head down with antlers. I adore it!

From what I've noticed, the Gen 2 pictos are based off of runes. Or at least, that's what I noticed when I happened to be looking runes up.

Even so, they're all incredibly cluttered and just plain ugly looking. It takes me forever to find any decent ones, and even then, they're all only semi-decent at best. They lack the beauty and smooth flow of Gen 1.

Unfortunately, I had no clue that you could actually pick what pictograms you had, and so I was stuck with two Gen 1 pictos that I'm not very fond of. Can't trade them or give them away though; they're tied to the first two characters I ever played here, and so they have a special place with me. I've been very lucky to get two that I truly love.

However, it makes me wish that I had been smart enough to hoard some Gen 1 before registration was disabled. I get so upset now when I see a gorgeous Gen 1, and it's either already been claimed, or there's a catch for it. (I.E. Art, or another Gen 1). I know I've complained about this before, but it seems that Gen 1 pictos are nothing more than currency now, and that irks me more than anything. :/

If anything, if they're forced to go into a Gen 3, they'll probably be twice as hideous as they are now. And oh, how the value of Gen 1 will be jacked up even further. It'll be damn near impossible to get them after Gen 3, because the requirements to get one will be so much more stringent.

I will brutally admit right here and now; I have a tendency to cold shoulder deer with Gen 2 pictograms, unless they do something to catch my attention, they sit with me for a long time, or they continuously seek me out.

I have a tendency to correlate Gen 2 with newcomers that either won't be around for very long, or just really don't know what they're doing. I get frustrated when someone is just spamming emotes, or will only sit with me for a few seconds. I understand that I'm boring, and oftentimes grumpy anyway, but still. It's one of those things that irks me.
