i've seen some pictures posted up here that dont have a background but just the main picture. i dont want to draw a background all the time and i cant figure out how to make it transparent. i have photoshop CS4
You could also hide the blank background layer by clicking the 'eye' icon next to it in the layer box. That'll take away the entire background and leave the transparency. c8
that makes sense... i got the background to become transparent but every time i would save it (JPEG) it would come right back D: does DA take PNG files? o.O

I use photoshop CS2, I make sure the background is not selected so my figure is on the checkerboard transparent background, then I go to "Save for web" and make sure I'm saving as a PNG file.
Go to Layers. The background
The background layer must be completely blank. Select it.
Near the top of the Layers box, there should be a slider bar that says "Transparency."
This is the most help I can offer, because I don't know Photoshop, but I have GIMP, which is fairly close. Good luck!

This is what Ryff was talking about. First you have to convert the background into a smart object, which can be done by right clicking.
The other way I know is to use the magic eraser or background eraser tools, both of which can be found under the normal eraser.
