I was listening to some music today and had the most awesome little animated 'adventure' play out in my head, urging me to do something creative. So I've started animating a TEF Deer.
Updated as I go:
(If you can't see the image above, you may have Flash/SWF files blocked.)
Current progress: Done; Cleaned up the picto, removed the filter (which was CPU-intensive). The file is now very optimised, small, and fast.
After that... I don't suppose anyone would want a custom one for themselves? I'm not promising anything, but it's very much a possibility at this point, assuming I can remain bothered to do them, lol. I'm terribad with commitments. xD
Oh! As for that big adventure I imagined, maybe I'll find a way to do that too. It'd be a pretty huge project though. In fact the only reason I started doing this in Flash is because I wanted a basic skeleton to draw over- the animation I eventually want to create will be fully hand-drawn, probably greyscale like those funny little stickmen animations you see around the 'net.
THAT IS AWESOME. O_o
I don´t know what you´re thinking to do to it anymore, because it looks pretty much perfect to me. I love both versions, this "customized" one as well as the "plain" brown deer.
Wonderfully animated! <3
I gave that some thought, I did consider maybe charging a pound or two for them. But there's too many problems with that. Firstly, I promised someone a gift-back, so they'd get one for free and it wouldn't really feel fair. Then I'd be obligated to do requests that are more effort than I'd honestly like to spend on them, and I'd spend so much time doing them that they wouldn't be fun anymore. And finally, so many people here do their requests for free that I'd feel greedy to take money for these.
So, bottom line... I think I will do a few requests, while I enjoy doing so, but they will be free. And I'll have to set out a few rules/limitations in a new post, when I'm ready.
I would love one of Three(link in signature, default red deer w/poppies or any of my typical sets shown there..). If I have time, I could do an art trade for it, but I can't make any promises..
This is simply amazing, kudos.. woah..
I understand what you mean with following through, though, I have the same trouble with requests/commissions..
If you felt greedy taking money, you could always donate the money to TEF and such. o: Personally, with all the time you put in these(since I animate things myself) you deserve money. xD
But, I understand where you're coming from and such. C:
*Stares...* I saw this on another post before i saw this one, sorry! It's mesmerizing... It'd be neat to have a dancy Terpsichore sig, but I'm thinking a dancing cycle would be harder than the run cycle... This is absolutely awesome!
This is beautiful -admires-
How did you do this? Like are all the parts seperate?! I would love to see how you got it to be so fluid <3 I did a little bit of animating a while back so I sorta understand how hard this would be...
God it's so beautiful! Wow...
Makes me wish I had Flash... I took a class in it, but that was yonks ago now. I might have to experiment and try to make a little animated GIF or something.
Ohh, this is amazingly beautiful! I really love how you've animated the galloping, it's so smooth. I would love one...but only if you really want to, I know it would take ages and I wouldn't want to take too much of your time from more important things. I also think the big adventure would be a great idea!
As Zeshi. It really... Beautiful, real, and I like the move of the deer... Waw, simply. I fixed the creation and I could stay like that two hours... Well done. Really, well done. *O*
KittyCatKita: To answer your question, yes, each body piece is its own object and moves independantly.
I started by using a screenshot of a deer and blocking in basic flat-colour shapes over each bodypart- the head, neck, chest, torso, butt, etc, all a different colour so I can easily distinguish them.
Once these were all converted into symbols and I was happy with their proportions, I started animating the frong leg. I've had a lot of practice with this over at Whirled and usually start with a simple 5-keyframe cycle, with the leg in the major positions for each keyframe.
Using that, I also animated the back leg. I made sure to touch both feet on the ground at the same level and have the keyframes occur at the same time. Doing this ensures all legs will be moving at the same speed and not sliding too fast or slow along the ground.
That's the easy part done.
The next step was to get the head, neck and body to flow as if the deer was in motion. This is a bit difficult at first but gets easier as you tweak it. It's kinda a snake-like motion, or a wave. The legs can then be moved around based on the position of their joints on the body, so they feel 'attached' to it rather than just floating and waving madly in the air.
As for the other two legs, those are duplicated from the first two. Then keyframes are shifted around to give them different timings, and more position tweaks to make them feel more natural and not just clones.
The rest is all the small details that gradually make it feel natural and fluid. In total, it took about 7 hours non-stop from start to finish.
Goodness me, that little cycle is wonderful! I love it to bits!
It's interesting that you went with animating a running cycle rather than walking/trotting. I know nothing about animation but have a great interest in it; is running easier to animate because of the rhythm?
Oh wow, that's so cool!!! xD Everytime I tried it I drew a full body picture and moved it a little each time -shot- no wonder they came out so badly xDD
Thank you so much for the explanation! I will have to try it sometime when I have the time to do it
Iaurdagnire: I wouldn't say so. In fact, walking may be a tiny bit easier. A proper run is officially where all feet temporarily leave the ground, whereas in a walk, at least one foot is always planted. Essentially this usually means that a running body is moving around a lot more, raising and lowering, etc.
I went with the run because that's what I saw in my head.
...and imagined a deer fleeing through the destruction of its habitat, except way, way bigger than that. I imagine it side-on, staying with the deer as it crashes through all manner of obstacles, with giant tsunamis building up behind it or flaming meteors crashing all around. God-knows what else. I so badly want to draw that and put it to that music! xD
This is really just too awesome <3 I've seen it in your siggy before and was just marveling at how smooth it was! And now I found this thread. XDD Anyway, you did an amazing job. These would make for a good Greenleaf shop? I don't know, I do think I'd pay for one D8 XDD
Goodness that's amazing! I'm
I'd definitely love to have a custom one C:
This is awesome!

XD; Sorry, but it just looks awesome. If you hadn't mentioned the detaching feet, I wouldn't have noticed. |D

I actually like the color scheme xD

Looking hawt, if I do say so myself
The ears and tail aren't animating in the exported gif... not sure why. I have animated them, though. Looks cute. xD
Edit: Does this show up for anyone? (Swf export- exactly how it looks in my editor :3)
oO Yeah, I can see it.
Yeah, I can see it. Amazing!
I love these kinds of things.
THAT IS AWESOME. O_o I don´t

That animation is delicious. The legs move amazingly and it's just... real. I don't know. I just love it. XD <3

Ok, I was going to do
So I'm starting on Haru's Cloud now. I probably won't get very far today (need to sleep very soon) but I'll do what I can.
I'll start a new thread where I can post progress and stuff later.
This is wonderful, exciting!
