"So they just left you?"
"Yeah... I don't even know why."
"That's... unfair..."
The green doe looked to Clock sympathetically. "I feel for you..."
Clock almost glared at her, "How? How could you possibly know what I feel write now?"
The doe looked down at the water, "Because I was abandoned too... Not just by my family, by my friends and neighbors as well..."
"Oh..." Clock's ears lowered, "Sorry, I didn't know..."
"It's okay." She smiled, "At least here, I can make new friends... Even maybe a new family."
Clock looked to her, ears perking. "Where did you come from, anyway?"
The doe looked at her reflection. Her long green hair, her bare, green, spotted skin, the butterfly mask on her white face... "Oh... I guess you could say I used to live close to here. But it doesn't matter now, I can't go back. I don't plan on it, either."
Clock nodded. He suddenly realized something, it made him a little embarrassed. "I forgot to ask for your name..."
The doe looked to him, and smiled kindly, "Tropa. Some call me The Gingerbread Frog."

Clock seemed less and less alone every day now. He always visited Tropa at least once a day, getting to know her better. It was clear that she was much older than him. Truly, he developed a crush for her before, but it soon passed. She was more of a mother than a mate. A mother... That's exactly what she was like...
Clock soon realized what she meant to him. As soon as his real family left... She just came to his rescue. She was so kind and sympathetic. A complete stranger, ready to help him in any way she could. It could have been the work of the gods... It could have just been luck.
The brown stag trotted over to the Pond one day. Tropa was underwater again, chasing the fish around for fun. He wished he knew how to do that as well. Maybe some day he would figure it out. He went over to the shallows, splashing the water to get her attention. She almost immediately saw him, and came to the surface.
"Hey there, Clock. How are you?" She asked, shiny and dripping with water.
"I'm good, I'm good..." Clock smiled at her dazedly.
She lifted an eyebrow, still smiling, "What's the matter, you look like you wanna tell me something."
"I.. I do, I guess..." He came closer to her. "Tropa... Ever since I met you, I knew there was something between us... Now that I can't find my family... And you want to build a new one... I think it's perfectly reasonable to ask you this..."
Tropa's smile faded, she twitched an ear, "Yeah?..."
"Well..." He looked down a moment, the looked back up at her. "Can I... Will you... Will you be my mother now?..."
Tropa stood for a moment. They looked at each other, light green eyes locking with sparkling blue eyes. She sighed, and smiled sweetly, "Of course... I would love to be your mother..."

Clock then lived with Tropa, enjoying every moment he spent with her. Although, he never stopped looking for his real family.
He has yet to find them again...
