"Papa?"

A little fawn fumbled her way back to the Playground. "Papa?"

Another fawn followed her, trying to get ahead of her. Skokey sat under the slab with a smirk on his face.

"What is it, sweetheart?" He asked softly.

"What's a... a birch?" the little girl chirped.

"Yeah, what's a birts?" the boy repeated, unknowingly pronouncing it wrong.

Skokey chuckled, "Well, I'll tell you..." the two fawns sat infront of him, their natural responce to that statement. "I birch is a type of tree. That's why they call this forest the Birch Forest."

"So the white trees are birches?" the boy tilted his head.

"Yes, Fenkovan. For some reason, they don't grow in the First Forest. And no tree in the First Forest grows here."

The little girl pricked her big ears, "What kind of trees are in the... First Forest?"

"Oh... Maples, Oaks, Pines... A few Elm trees..."

"How do you know the difference."

Skokey chuckled, "There are many things. The biggest thing to look for are the leaves. Those are the things that tell one tree from another."

Fenkovan nodded, "What do the leaves look like?"

"Well..." He was interupted by Fenqua coming back. "Oh, hello, love." She sat down next to him, and he rubbed his face against hers.

"Well, hello. What are you three talking about?" She asked with a smile.

"Faytha and Fenkovan were asking me about trees."

"Oh, trees, huh? What do you want to know?"

"I wanna know how to tell all of them apart!" They both said simultaneously.

They really are twins, Skokey thought, transferring that through a smile to Fenqua. She seemed to be thinking the same thing.

"Well," Skokey started, "Maple leaves are big, and wide. I think they're the biggest leaves."

"Oak leaves," Fenqua continued, "are thinner, and a little longer. But they look similar. But they're not nearly as big as Maple leaves."

"Pine leaves look like little blades of grass. Those are the easiest to tell apart."

"I know what you're talking about!" Fenkovan was picturing the tall trees with spikey leaves.

Fenqua smiled, "And Birch trees have round leaves." As if on cue, a Birch leaf fell to the ground right next to them.

"What about... um, Elm?" Faytha asked, unsure if she said it right.

"Well... I don't really know... If they don't look like the other leaves, then I guess it's an Elm..."

The fawns looked at each other, confused. Fenqua shook her head slightly at Skokey. "Why don't we go find one?"

Faytha and Fenkovan brightened up at the suggestion, and immediately started to bounce around. They shouted a little song about trees. Fenqua and Skokey led the way.

"Oh, I think I see one..." Skokey said.

"Where?" Fenqua asked.

"I'll run to it, you and the fawns can catch up."

Fenqua nodded and Skokey took off. While Skokey ran, Fenqua and the fawns only trotted.

Okay, Elm tree... The tree was in plain sight, and he was about to slow himself down. An unfortunate rock just happened to be in his path. Skokey misplaced his hoof against the rock, and he tumbled to the ground. He slid a little ways, and finally stopped right infront of the tree.

Fenqua gasped slightly and hurried the fawns along. They quickly came over to him. "Skokey, are you okay?"

Skokey groaned, "Stupid rock..." He tried to get up, but an unseen branch met his head and he fell back down. He groaned again, louder and more irritated, "Stupid tree..."

"Is this an Elm tree?" Fenkovan asked.

"Yeah, it is..." Skokey sighed, still laying on the ground. "I never really liked Elm trees..."

Fenqua sighed, while Fenkovan tilted his head again. Faytha sighed after her mother and muttered, "Oh Papa..."
