Oh good god. Freaking computer hates me.

Hokay, time for some backtracking, and a whirlwind tale of love, deception, and mur-

Oh wait, wrong blog.

Let's start with about a month ago. A month ago, my computer battery error'd, and told me it couldn't be charged anymore. I unplugged the batter charger, and the computer went out completely. However, I kept putting off telling my dad, because I figured out through that little weasel brain of mine that if I kept the charger plugged into the computer, it would turn on, and I could still use it.

Well, I have no clue if that's the root cause of what happened the other night, but I thought I'd throw that out there in case a computer whiz happens to be reading this and takes note 8D

Anyways, back on track.

The other night, I was up from about 10pm to 3am trying to get my computer to operate. The reason? My computer was blue screening constantly, it froze up whenever it was trying to do a disk check, it would blue screen when trying to use Rescue and Recover (which repairs any minor damage to the computer that it can fix), and it kept saying that Windows Explorer was failing.

Well, finally, yesterday morning, the disk check went through alright, and I could access my computer again. However, since it's been alright for the most part, I've left it alone.

However, everytime I log into my computer now, this window pops up:

And when I went to check the actual file, this is the information I'm given:

What upsets me is the fact that I can no longer access Adobe Reader, or anything Microsoft Office related, like Word or Excel. I can access Wordpad just fine. However, the Help and Support is not longer accessible either, which sucks because I don't even know where the hell the application log is. According to the things I can't access, it's basically the same error as above.

The last thing I want to do is do a System Restore. I would end up losing everything on my computer, and I have stuff more valuable than 10 of my lives on it. I don't even have flash drives with enough space to get everything crammed away for safe keeping (I have an 8GB one, and a 2GB one, and they are already maxed out with files I moved yesterday morning after regaining access to my computer).

Long story short, I don't know what to do. Chances are, I won't be doing any heavy-duty "research" into this problem until tomorrow, when I am at my sister's, and even then, I have no clue if I can fix this on my own. I'm extremely leery about giving the laptop to my father, and having the guy he got it from look at it because;

a) I don't need him erasing files
b) I don't want him doing a System Restore and losing all my data
c) I don't want him giving me a replacement, since that just means I lost all my data.
d) Being a prick, and digging through files he shouldn't be looking at

So yeah, this is mostly me venting, but if anyone has any good advice, I'm willing to hear it.

Ufda wufda. That sucks

Ufda wufda. That sucks majorly ;;

My only advice would be to get an external hard drive, OR you can spend five dollars a month with Mozy Home which just basically backs up all of your files to.. uh.. I dunno xD Their website, I guess? I back up my files with it, but so far I haven't needed to retrieve them. YET ;;
My dad has used it for years and he blasts through computers like they're made out of waffles. Despite his lack of computer savvy, he has only had nice things to say about Mozy c:

Other than that.. -PUNTS your computer for having a fail- That'll fix it >J

Hmm...I've been meaning to

Hmm...I've been meaning to get an external hard drive for the longest time, so that's not out of the question (:

Mozy Home? I've honestly never heard of it, but I can look into that I suppose <3

OMG, I totally wish I could do that ;;

Thank you, Fishy &hearts

System Restore won't make you

System Restore won't make you lose all your data. Any documents you created will be perfectly fine. Only installed programs will really be affected. And if it doesn't go the way you want it to, you can undo it.

So, if I were to use it, my

So, if I were to use it, my music, anime, movies, TEF spell data, etc, that I have saved won't be affected by it?

I just want to make sure, that stuff means a lot to me =/

Granted, I still have most of the stuff needed to reinstall things once they're lost, I'm just making sure everything I've built up won't go poofing on me ;;

They shouldn't. Anything

They shouldn't. Anything outside the Program Files folder (or whatever it's called on other versions of Windows since I have XP. |D) should be ok. And like I said, you can always undo it. =]
(I'm second-guessing myself now. |D;;; )

I just took a look at

I just took a look at Window's main website, and according to them, my files should be safe.

What I'm concerned about is the possibility of undoing System Restore, but none of the programs I've installed are still there. I guess I'm just worried because I really don't want to have to hunt down and reinstall all the brushes I've built up for GIMP =/

Is it possible to move GIMP's folder out of the Program folder and ensure that my brushes will be intact...?

I'm afraid I can't answer

I'm afraid I can't answer that question since I've never had to do that. *one of the few people who doesn't download brushes*
