Rather amusing, these deer...An odd place, this is. Certainly a far cry from my old home. It appears very ordinary, boring even.
Yet it is inhabited by some rather unusual, and interesting, creatures. They are deer. Yet, many of them have the faces of humans. They come in many colors, including some that would not be expected of such creatures. They are magical creatures, although the magic is not much compared to what I have seen. And their manner of behavior is...interesting, to say the least.
I have been watching some of these deer. They dance, for no discernible reason, not for festival nor ceremony. They play unusual, and quite silly, games. They are rather amusing to watch. And those that I approached seemed friendly, polite, and welcoming. It seems it is customary among them to bow in way of greeting. A bow is a sign of respect, but here it is used on everyone equally. It is not only for those of higher status. And speaking of which, I have not been able to discern any such status among this forest's inhabitants. There does not appear to be anyone who is more important than anyone else. If there are, it is not obvious.
These creatures are not all the same, either. They vary as much as their appearances. Some appear to prefer solitude, and some appear to prefer sitting quietly to joining in the games of others.
And then there are some that are not even deer, though many resemble deer in some way. Much like my own race, I suppose. There do not seem to be many of these, however. I can only recall coming across one.
I did not sense any humans. This may be a problem. I may have to look outside of this forest to find prey. Although it appears there is no normal way to exit. Perhaps the way I came...
Strange, though, for there is evidence that humans were once here. A bridge. An old, ruined church and graveyard. Stone idols and statues. All seem ancient, seeming to indicate that there perhaps were humans here a very long time ago. Perhaps there are some still around somewhere... If that is the case, I will find them. Otherwise, I will find another way. I have to eat one way or another.

There are a few characters that are actually humans with a deer form, and he can "sniff" them out, there just weren't any (that I'm aware of) on at the time. Not that I'd have him actually eat anyone's character. So, he will have other ways of finding humans.
Or he might just have to live on fish and birds, and small animals. At least he doesn't have to eat very often.
