Picto:
Name: Urschanabi(IPA transcription: /urʂɐn̠ˈabʲɪ/🔉)
Species: Aardvark-like spirit, psychopomp
Gender: Male (?..)(well, strictly speaking, genderless. But usually referred to as 'he', since the name Urschanabi comes from a male mythological character. I understand, however, those small antlers might look a bit deceiving..) so I won't mind very much if someone accidentally treats Urschanabi as a doe... a spirit can take any form after all)
Size: 2(like an average TEF deer, only it's an aardvark)
Age: Eternity
Entered the forest: 20.07.2014
Speaks in: #E52B50
Diet: Spirits don't eat...
Scent: Narcissus, green tea, lime, iris
Home: The bottom of the pond
Reference: [X](by Draak)

Wanted to celebrate the new page with an Urchin study, and
despite the ref image search results' punyattempts at trolling me , I got it done.
It was inspired by the slugabed word in particular, as well as your 'friendly void' concept.
Oh my god, I've just seen the most perfect snout in the world! *clutches at heart*
Such a decisive one. Love the pose and the angle you've chosen too, looks unusual. Thank you!
Gotta say I gained an appreciation for aardvarks' head wrinkles while drawing.
Giving them that ultimate thoughtful look.
Plus I finally got to draw the "frayed" ears I saw in your drawing of him, the way I saw em.
I omitted the face markings in this one, as they'd interfere with the strokes that show the snout movement.
Which, I find, is the centerpiece here, because Urchin just got up from a sleep and is greeting a visitor.
Sniffing.
The eyes are semi-suctioning the surrounding space, as well.
P.S. I got those refs exactly while searching for a clear aardvark snout photo. The gall.
Loved how Urchin promptly moved in to cover me with his mask while I was trying to do my best Hannibal Lecter impression. Saved Elsa(?)'s eyes, for sure.
I didn't even get a pic. One day, though, one day.
The day is today.
The head wrinkles were the first thing to catch my eye in your drawing. I don't think anyone else has ever drawn Ursch with those.
Huh, that snout sure sniffs right into your soul
Well, you could've tried using the last one, actually. Just had to add the eyes.
Oh, if you mean that green deer with the long mask, it's not Elsa, it's Ptits (the player is not on TEFc, unfortunately).
Anyway, the poor guy has been stuck with his antlers in that tree for more than a week now. He has already suffered enough xD
I've just remembered, my soul is the size of a termite. Whoops.
Aha, "we got Urch at home.
Urch at home: turnip with bead eyes". But I strive for perfection.
My picto memory must've had a stroke that day, thanks for the correction.
'S like Ptits got a window into his own dimension, there. Yeah, good call, good call.
Haha, no worries, your skills are still far greater than mine, I often end up sitting miles away from where I was aiming at and I can barely turn in the air at all.
Glad to play with you too, as always.
Precisely. I'm starting to wonder if you're using some kind of a neural network that finds funny matching images/videos for every occasion within seconds)
Lol, I've actually came to say hi to my old friends (you and rabbanim), as well as the newbie. But the moment Ursch saw the fawns he was like "sorry, player, I'm not coming any closer")))
Glad to see you all, though!
Glad to see you, too.
He just wanted to give rabba some company since he noticed her 'Nose Alien' friend had been gone for a while.
'Young' has a mighty need to address Urchin's distaste towards fawns via text RP, though.
Aww, rabbanim told me that her Alma likes kids and he's welcome to keep her company anytime)
As for Ursch, he can't speak right now, he's got a facehugger on his face
Seriously though, I'm sorry, but I don't think I'd be able to keep up with an RP, my mind's just too busy with irl stuff at the moment.
Besides, I'm not a big fan of RPing in general, Ursch is mostly OOC and I don't think I would want him to play any significant part in IC stories. Appreciate the invitation, still.
Been really enjoying Dreamer's relaxing company today, as well as the crazy dances xD Thank you for both!
Here's a new joke for you:
Rosinka walks into the hair salon..
And there we are dancing. Dunno about you, I'm singing the Sweeney Todd part apparently (cause I don't know any other hair musicals).
Perfect. The OOCer falling off really accentuates your speed, there.
As for the reply to your previous one,
Ty, 'Young'll be glad to find it out.
Ha. Yeah, OOCer done let himself go. He oughta put that mite back where it came from - into his hair.
I see, I understand. For me it's the opposite- RPing (as well as other creative things) is a way to cool my brain off (and less energy-demanding than, say, drawing or javascript). If you ever get bothered by kid talking about your 'Nose Alien' in his journal, tell me.
Everyone he meets and mentions are rather important to him.
"crazy dances"
The Ruin monks didn't bother to hide their wine well enough.
And sure, I enjoyed it too, thank you, as well.
I wanted to give you a proper welcome-back before letting kid out again. I try to keep him away from Urchin, for the most part (both for Urchin's sake and because kid got questions that won't get answered).
@wruttuwr:
Welcome and thanks for joining our company today!
@Uitleger:
Haha, it does!
No wonder, you are a creative soul and your imagination works almost on autopilot, while mine requires a lot of mental effort)
Yeah, it's fine with me. You know, another reason why I mostly hang out with OOC characters is that I'm really bad at following characters' updates (although I've been keeping an eye on Young's journal so far, but I know I'll inevitably start missing out on things at some point). So yeah, it's fun to watch him from the distance, occasionally, but I'm not seeking interaction with him for Ursch. Kinda makes it more interesting too, when your characters have different social circles, doesn't it?
Nah, creative people are the ones who have a talent and put in an organized effort into developing it.
What I've got I call my "brain fumes".
Hm, I didn't create him to be a chore, so following his stuff isn't obligatory. And his life is episodic enough to make (no) sense, no matter which day you're reading.
Yeah, I had a similar thought when Ursch interacted with Cro, it reminded me of a paper-rock-scissors dynamic.
Urchin being the rock, because Cro runs away from him, and the aardvark, in turn, avoids 'Young'. And Cro would eat 'Young' if given the opportunity, now that I think of it. It's a funny one.
Makes me value how Lem seemed to have some common ground with your character, although with all the chasing, I can't be too sure.
Well, it seems that my definition of 'creative' is closer to your 'brain fumes' then) Because for me creativity implies imagination and interesting ideas in the first place, which sometimes may be considered a talent, but these things do not necessarily correlate. And an effort, whether organized or not, doesn't matter here, since by being creative I don't mean the things one does, but rather just the way one's brain works. What one does with it is another question.
I know it's not, but what's the fun of being a part of a story you're not even following?)
Hm, that's an interesting analogy. Although I should say, Young doesn't look like someone who would let themselves be eaten by a bird, even a giant one, huh.
Well, Lem wasn't completely IC, was he? At least he used to hang out with OOC characters a lot, as far as I remember.
You just never seen me fake being asleep to stay out of my ol' friends' semi-DnD game because creativity is something I lack.
Look at all these people on here making intricate characters, storylines and whole worlds with ecosystems and cultures. It's what I consider creative.
Then there's me driving Lem, 'Young' and Cro to the woods in a rusty van, dropping them off and saying "Go on, live, and I'll watch and maybe it'll be something to write about."
I ain't sure what type of creativity this is.
The fun comes when you finally check 'Young's journal to find out he was behind an extensive conspiracy revolving around unsuspecting Urchin, one designed to make him LIKE FAWNS, for example. The horror.
Unfortunately for Kid, he's too "human" to win against nature. He'd be finished in one peck while trying to outthink the bird.
And that's a tough one. Put in fewer words, Lem was always IC, because he lived and re-/acted within the forest environment, those experiences were his own, and became the basis for his next re-/actions, and so forth.
What fluctuated, though, and what I assume you asked about, was the extent of his character expression, which I adjusted, depending on who he was interacting with.
Taking Urchin's case, for example. Lem's thoughts/feelings about him (her, at the time) were, naturally, complex and nuanced. However, when it came to expression, it mostly boiled down to our OOC banter and that satirical comic I made (which remains the best of my cinematic work, to my chagrin). Because that's where I believed our common ground was, with my deer being more IC, and yours more OOC. (The term "OOC characters" BSODs my brain, still, but I think I understood you right, after all).
Came here to post doodles - saw that I still had a reply to make - wrote a wall - forgot about the doodles. Hello, dementia.
Anyway, here's one with the koi mask. Smug aardvark strikes again.
Here's two from when they were by Fly's tree. Omitted the red pelt on OOCer, for clarity's sake.
@capiteux:
It's OK, don't worry! That's just the way it works here: the newer stuff gets to the top, so people can see it.

Instead I formed my own circle of friends and started having my own parties, where no one could make me participate in anything and I could just sit comfortably and watch people play what they want))
Well, a type as viable as others, I think)
Oh no, Gods forbid that!
I see, that makes a lot of sense actually, thanks for taking the time to explain.
And yeah, the term is disconcerting indeed. Especially when you think of those OOC characters that have families %)
Thanks for the doodles, the Koi mask never fails to amuse me. And that second doodle has actually improved my sleep quality, no kidding. The aardvark's pose is not only very true to their real sleeping poses, but also looks so relaxed and carefree that I can't help but catch the vibe every time I look at it.
@Saturnia:
Your userpic looked familiar, so I went a few pages back here on my bio and found your comment from two years ago. I knew we'd met before! Glad you're here again
Nakiju, he turned out AMAZING!!! I know I already said that a dozen times, but the fur texture is beyond all praise.
Thank you very much, can't wait to see the other characters you're working on!
Scribbled this on my prototype sheet with the prototype brush, hence the style (gotta remake later). Imagine Urschanabi's body stretched out because of him going real fast.
I bet he gets a new wrinkle on his forehead on every new fawn encounter.
P.S. I'd come over to plastic-owl the trauma away, but it looks like I'm an accidental father now. Gotta watch over this one.
P.P.S. And it went to sleep. I'm back to my plastic freedom.
Haha, perfect. The slowest chase in the forest history, but still very dramatic.
Thanks for the company, Ursch feels more confident at this party now Nice to meet your friend Dem too.
