Appearance is the one of a human-faced TEF deer, with blue eyes, dark hair and long pointy ears. Her fur is pale cream with white and golden markings, a white belly and darker legs. Hooves are white. Also tend to shapeshift into a feral-faced deer, most often wearing a part of a skull on her face, while at other times can be completely skull-faced. This is only some examples of the ways she can use forest magic to alter her looks.
born as the result of a secret love affair between a minor norse god and a giantess from Jotunheim. Brought to the forest shortly after birth for her own safety, disguised as one of many orphaned fawns that would often appear in the forest.
in her youth, Nimh grew up among many strong and impressive creatures and she aspired to one day become just as strong and a great warrior like they were. Numerous vicious battles among loved ones put an end to that however, and the young one soon grew to loathe battles and fighting.
she rather tried to be a peaceful creature who would attempt to see things from both sides without being judgemental of either - with mixed results.
made some very bad decisions in life which had her plunge into a black hole of guilt and self-loathing. Managed to fight her way out of it eventually, but the whole ordeal has left her rather insecure about herself and with a somewhat weak mind.
avoids any confrontation if possible, but will stand her ground if there is no other way out.
friendly and inviting to strangers, judges out of personality rather than appearance and will welcome most creatures into her company.
tries her best to be loyal to loved ones, and to be there for them should they need someone to lean on or talk to.
Nimh was perhaps born outside of The Endless Forest, but the forest has still grown to be her true home. As she grew up, Nimh had dreams and visions about the world she came from, then without knowing what those dreams meant, if anything. Later - as she finally was introduced to portals that could take her out of the forest - she was able to meet her true parents and learn why they had brought her to the forest in the first place. Understood why they had done it and was glad she got a chance to meet them and talk with them, but at the same time did realize that if she should one day get an opportunity to go live with her parents, she would probably chose to rather stay in the forest. For now may visit other worlds for a shorter or longer periods of time, but The Endless Forest is and will always be her true home, a home she will return to sooner or later no matter how long it takes.

"Hands are what they have instead of hooves," La said. Her eyes gleamed with far away desire and a burning passion. "Like squirrel paws, kind of. They can pick things up and hold them, and then use those things to make other things. Those are tools. Being without hands makes things difficult to be a Deer but... we do alright I think. We can talk and be together and that's more important than construction."
For all that she hero-worshiped invention and innovation, La would not have traded her cozy forest life for it. Her dark eyes fell back to the bracelet thoughtfully. "It is very lovely. What you get out of wearing it is more important than what it says, anyway. Actions speak louder than words!"
Nimh was about to ask if hands were just like paws, but La beat her to it. Nimh had seen squirrels many times, and she knew very well what their tiny paws looked like. For a moment she glanced rather miserably down towards her own hooves. If she had had hands it would have been much easier to make small trinkets, make braids out of pond reed and tie it to bird skulls, feathers or small, pretty rocks. But then she forced herself to smile, as she nodded in agreement. "Yes, of course, you are right about that." They were doing alright, though it would have been fun to be able to create small gifts she could give to her family, without struggling so much.
But perhaps she was not meant to be able to create trinkets. It was the bracelet that had given her the idea, but since the bracelet was from another world it was probably created by one of those humans - who had hands - and not a deer. Yes, that could be it. This time her smile was sincere, when La complimented the bracelet. "Thank you. And they really do." The bracelet would always be one of her most precious possessions, no matter what.
The dog had been sitting with the cream doe for some time now, idly fidgeting with a necklace wrapped around his wrist. When the silver chain was finally free he took it gingerly by the tooth-shaped stone and set it upon the ground in front of Nimh. He looked away shyly, uncertain of whether or not his gift would be accepted before finally speaking up, "Nim, I-i have this ...gift for you." He said nervously before looking down to the earth between his paws as if ashamed of his words and the gift he had brought.
Nimh had been dozing on an off, sitting between her mother and Lycaon, and she had noticed the dog fumbling with something - though without giving it much thought. But a surprised look crossed her face as an item was placed in front of her. It was a beautiful necklace, and for a moment the young doe was speechless. "It's gorgeous." She then answered when she was able to find her voice again, uncertain if she could accept such a gift. A smile then formed her lips, as she noticed that the dog seemed to be a bit uncertain as well.
"Thank you so much." Nimh leaned over to give Lycaon a friendly nudge, before she lowered her head to take a closer look at the necklace. She was determined to give Lycaon something in return for this. "Will you help me put it on?" Once again she gave Lycaon a glance, still smiling. Hopefully the small chain was wide enough for her to just slip the necklace over her head, with some help.
The dog felt heat flush to his face as he blushed, she liked it! He stuttered a moment, wanting to reply that she was far prettier than the necklace but simply did not have the words to do so. Instead he gave a toothy grin, his tail wagging behind him.
The nudge caused his eyes to widen in surprise, but it quickly passed as Lycaon went to oblige her request. Sitting up he hooked his claws around the chain with practiced ease, slowly lifting the necklace and sliding it over Nimh's neck. The chain came to rest at the crook of the doe's neck, the tooth seeming to shimmer against the fur of her chest. He stared at it for a moment before looking at the ground again. "I'm glad y-you like it."
A giggle could be heard from Nimh as she straightened up, as if to make it easier for Lycaon to slip the necklace over her head. She watched as he took hold of the necklace with his claws as he sat up with a balance she could only dream of. The necklace was very light, she barely noticed it was there after Lycaon had put it on. Nimh craned her neck to be able to look at the tooth, admiring it in silence until the dog spoke again. "I don't just like it, I love it." She replied sincerely as she settled back down on the ground.
And then, after a moment of silence, she gave a curious tilt of her head. "Where did you get it?" Nimh hadn't seen anything like this necklace anywhere in the forest, so perhaps it came from another place, like her bracelet. Nimh had never been out of the forest, but she had heard it was possible. It made her curious, but so far she hadn't attempted to find a way out herself. She liked it here - and her family was here. The thought made her smile as she looked toward the spot where her mother and younger sister had been sitting earlier this evening.
( I'll have to go to bed now, but I'll try to reply tomorrow. c': )
He gave a smile, glad to see that she really did like the gift. He settled down next to her, reaching to adjust his coat to give the doe a bit of cover as well. He noted she didn't seem cold like he did but didn't want to risk her having to put on a 'strong face' in the winter chill.
At the doe's question his face took on a look of worry, the dog was uncertain how to explain his brief visit outside of the forest. Golden eyes glanced towards the twin statues before he replied, "My mom gave it t-to me. Its from the place of men." Lycaon had gotten many things from his godmother, including the wonderful sheeps coat on his back. Looking over at the doe he couldn't help but smile too.
For a little while she sat in silence again, once more admiring the gift Lycaon had given her. One of her ridiculously long ears pointed in the dog's direction as he settled down next to her again, and then adjusted the pelt he was carrying on his back to give her cover too. It wasn't really needed but a sweet gesture, and it did give a comfortable warmth. Nimh gave a sigh as she huddled a bit closer.
She then tilted her head once again when noticing the look of worry on his face, and for a moment Nimh wondered if she had crossed some invisible line with her question. She was about to say he didn't have to answer if he didn't want to, but Lycaon spoke before the words was able to leave her. "Oh, the humans. It seem they have many beautiful things in their world." Nimh had never seen a human before, but she had heard about them, and had been told what they looked like. Nimh bit her bottom lip in a thoughtful manner, then looked over at Lycaon again. "Who is your mother? And are you sure you want to give this away... I mean, if it was a gift to you?" The first question was asked with curiousity, as she couldn't recall having seen the dog with someone who seemed to be his family - or perhaps she just hadn't been paying attention. The second question asked with more doubt, again unsure if she could accept the necklace. Especially if it had been a gift to him in the first place.
"Humans" Its took a moment for the word to click in Lycaon's mind, so that was another word for men? He tried to sound out the word in his head before answering the doe's next question.
He didn't really know who his mother was...that was just how she had introduced herself to him. "Don't know, she's from the space between." He placed emphasis on the last word as he tried explaining the portal he had traveled through to meet her, "Its...not here, but not where the men are. She called me there, gave me things and taught me how to speak, told me to 'do what I want' with the trinkets." He thought back to the conversation, wondering if maybe he should just admit to the doe that his godmother had caught him staring at it and had somehow knew what he was thinking. He thought it was pretty and that someone pretty should wear it, she had tied it around his ankle before he could even refuse. " I'm sure...really, She's got lots and lots, piles of things the h-hoomans have given her. She didn't want 'em."
Nimh listened carefully while Lycaon tried to explain who - and where - his mother was. And if Nimh hadn't been wearing her mask, the dog would have been able to see the strange expression on her face. Because what Lycaon said didn't sound so strange to Nimh as one would think. No, it sounded quite similar to what she had experienced in her dreams. Dreams of strange places, of a voice calling, saying something in a language she couldn't understand - but at the same time she had this strong feeling that the voice was calling for her, and that the dream truly was more than just a dream.
She gave a small shake of her head, this was not the time to ponder about those dreams of hers, but at the same time it was a bit reassuring to hear Lycaon had experienced something similar. "I'm glad, it would have been a shame if I would have to give this away again." Nimh smiled behind her mask. "I will take good care of it, I promise." By the sound of it, Lycaon's mother had enough trinkets and didn't need this necklace, but in any case, Nimh would treasure it and make sure she didn't lose it in case the dog's mother was worried for the necklace after all.
Jiaruqa;
Oh wow, that looks amazing, thank you so much! ♥
I really love the atmosphere, it's like it's showing a darker side of Nimh instead of that bright happy face she usually puts on, haha.
Padding along in an obviously uneasy gait, the lone unicorn would move carefully between the tall trees of the birch forest. His head ducked the slightest bit, tail lowered just above dragging it's hair along the ground, giving the occasional nervous swish. Splayed hooves falling as quietly as he could carry himself through the poppies and other sorts of brush he was yet unfamiliar with, he would pause and lift his head, keen ears pointing this way and that, sensitive pink nose working to pick up any scent that he could catch on the wind. For his first day in the Forest, he didn't seem to be having that much fun.
By now, Atcher had come to terms with the fact that, no matter where he was, there was going to be someone. Or something. Not to say that he would not try. Remaining where he had stopped, he would turn his glacial eyes to survey the trees and thicket around him, white flags of his ears swivelling to point towards any rustle.
The sun felt warm on Nimh's back, where she was standing in a sunspot amongst the tall, yellow grass in the Birch forest. She usually didn't hang around this spot anymore, but this particular sunspot was what she once had called 'home', before she had become a part of Alice's family. Now 'home' was by the Ruins, among gravestones and poppies. The same kind of poppies that usually adorned her long, brownish hair, just as they did now.
One of her ridiculously long ears moved slightly to catch a sound in the distance, it sounded like a fawn calling out in a playful tone, probably to friends. She smiled behind the bone mask, but then raised her head curiously as movements not too far away caught her attention. The cervine skull wasn't created to fit on a human face, but even though Nimh couldn't see through the eye sockets of the skull, she could still 'see', thanks to the magic the mask held. Seeing someone wear what seemed to be the skull of another animal was perhaps unneving to some, but Nimh was used to it - besides, wearing the mask gave her a better sight than her own eyes could give her. Now she eyed the stranger curiously, couldn't help but noticed he seemed a bit uncertain... even nervous, perhaps?
"Hello." She greeted merrily as she took a few steps closer to the stranger, head tilted in curiosity and perhaps to silently ask if he was okay.
Spotting the doe only moments before he himself was seen, he would take a startled step around to face her better, if calmed a bit at the merry greeting. Still not exactly put at ease, eyes focusing on her rather morbid wear. Well, so he had thought when he had first ventured here. Yet, she was far from the first oddity he had seen, this day.
Tail lifting in a curve and a sway, he would edge to the side, no longer sure what to make of anyone on appearance. Despite his cautiousness, he would give a short, tense sigh to relieve the pressure he did not notice had built up in his chest.
"..Hello," he would offer back, far more shortly than he would have spoken in any other situation. Afterwards, he would duck his muzzle a bit, craning his neck in the way of his arabian blood, ears folding back as though suddenly the sky was telling him something much more important. "I..er.." Another trail off and a lash of his tail.
Absolutely unsure of what else to do or say, he would just stand there for a long moment.
If there was one thing Nimh did not question, it was the appearance of others. Ever since she was a tiny fawn she had seen so many different creatures, everything from dragons to eight-legged horses to things she didn't even know the name of. She had simply come to accept the great variety of creatures in this place.
One ear flicked, as if some of the stranger's uncertainty was rubbing off on her. But Nimh kept the smile on her face, even though the unicorn couldn't see other than the rather morbid, constant smile of her mask. He did at least return her greeting, but Nimh couldn't help but wonder if she was interrupting on something, that perhaps he would prefer to be left alone. Nimh glanced back to the sunspot she had left, but she didn't retreat. Instead, she looked back at the unicorn.
"My name is Nimh." Unsure of what else to say, it was the only thing she could think of. Hopefully the unicorn would tell her off if she was being a pest; she wasn't always good at reading others. She silenced for a moment, then tilted her head again in a rather childish manner. "Are you alright? I couldn't help but notice you looked a little..." Another silence, as she didn't quite know what word she was looking for. And she wouldn't end up accidentally offend the unicorn either.
An equally uncertain partial smile would follow, and disappear just as fast. Grateful for the break in the silence, he would shift his stance again, tail dropping to a small swish behind him. Relieved for conversation, he would tilt his head in return. "Mine is Atcher," he would offer, giving an embarassed..noise.
Turning his head back the way he had come, and one more look around where they were, he would visibly relax. Not entirely, but much less tense. Unable to find his own words, he gives a flick of an ear. "I'm new here," would come his explination.
Despite his visibly relaxing, at least one ear would stay twitching towards any sound loud enough to catch his notice. Even with Nimh seeming so calm, any vocalization, no matter how far away, would draw a full head turn for abrupt attention for a few seconds after the call falls quiet.
Well, there was at least no signs of annoyance caused by her presence. At least Nimh couldn't see any. The unicorn did actually seem to relax a bit, which made her a bit more certain he was okay with her company, at least for now. Atcher. Nimh silently repeated the name in her head, as if that would make it easier to remember at a later time. And when he told her he was new in the forest, her long ears perked as her curiousity was given another spark. "Oh." Nimh had heard of places outside this forest - and sometimes dreamed about them too - but she had never been outside and didn't even know how to leave this forest.
Suddenly there was a lot of questions burning on her tongue; Where did he come from? What did it look like there? Was it similar to this forest? But none of the questions escaped her, it was more likely it would overwhelm the poor unicorn. She also tried to imagine how this place must have seen from his point of view, but it was difficult as this forest was all she knew, she didn't have anything to compare it with.
"I've grown up here... I could perhaps show you around, if you want to?" She suggested. Not that it was much to really see, despite being called 'endless' this forest was actually quite small. But Nimh still liked it here, and again, she had no other places to compare it with.
