I'll think of a better title later.
A private RP for
Kaye(yep, she's back) and Chantico's
Benedict.
I'll try to start. Taking inspiration from this gorgeous
painting.
The black doe was resting on the grass just on the outskirts of the pond. She surrounded herself with her dandelions, the only source of comfort she had when Noa wasn't around- No, that wasn't right. She wasn't dependent on Noa. She couldn't be dependent on Noa. She didn't
need anyone. She didn't
need Noa to sit with her every waking second of every day. She could handle herself. Right? Sure she could.
Sure she could.
The red eyed doe lowered her head to the ground, staring at the little plant in front of. "
It's funny that you're considered a weed, little dandelion," she murmured, her voice soft, as if she didn't want anyone to overhear her talking to a plant. Let alone wonder why she was lying down in the middle of a dandelion patch. "
I think you're the prettiest flower. You change. Other flowers don't do that, do they? They just wither and die...but you...you don't. You don't give up 'til the end...you fade away just as bright and cheerful as you did when you first bloomed."
[[Ah! I was just heading off
The glimmer of water is what had drawn him, sparkling through the rough dark browns of tree trunks, easily catching his eye. Water, ponds, lakes and rivers, they had always drawn him, allowing his most guilty of pleasures. The chance to watch others without them taking much notice of him. The opportunity to read their lives in body motion and unguarded lips. Sometimes he liked to place himself in their conversations, carry on in a little world of his own. All in his head of course. If they ever realized what the odd little streaked and striped stag staring at them across the water were really thinking they'd take to avoiding him. No fun in that.
Sadly, upon arriving at the edge of a small and rather unassuming pond there appeared to be no one about. So a waiting game it would be. Bright blue eyes cast about, looking for the best spot to huddle up comfortably while he waited, only to land on a patch of dandelions and the dark shape they hid. So, not so long a wait after all, even if the other didn't appear to be doing much in the way of interesting.
Attempting to appear casual about it, he moved around the pond's edge in the hopes of gaining a better view of the other deer.
^^ okay let's see how much of
Kaye had fallen silent after a few moments of speaking, mostly to nudge the yellow flower with her nose. The flowers rarely upheld their end of the conversation, but she didn't care. It was better than talking to herself or trying to make sense of her thoughts. She really didn't want to open that pandora's box. Only anger and confusion would follow, and she didn't want to experience that. Not again. She was above that now. At least, she tried to be.
She turned her head ever so slightly to watch a flicker of movement by the pond. Her first instinct said to let the dandelions hide her. That might have worked if the dandelions were taller by several feet, but they were just tiny little plants. They weren't anything close to miracle workers. They couldn't save her from everything; she had to help herself every now and again. The doe forced herself to exhale the breath she had been holding in, simultaneously mentally reminding herself that this was just some random deer-possibly a stag by the antlers- and they were most likely just passing through. The pond was, afterall, a water source. Most just come to drink, stare at the fishies and leave. Her ears perked toward the other, as if hearing their whereabouts would somehow give her the better edge and remained where she was. It seemed like a better idea than just bolting into the forest. She didn't know how fast they could run.
[[I just noticed your post.
He could see the dark points of ears flick his way, not that he expected any less. He was approaching them and it was only wise to keep tabs on an unknown. But he didn't want to draw too much of their attention.
He turned his faux casual wandering closer to the pond's edge, for a moment enjoying the coolness of mud squishing around his hooves before pretending to drink. Really he was sizing the other deer up, judging if it was best to move on or to hang about. He'd been chased away before and had encountered more than one territorial stag. But a lift of his head and a quick inhale proved his worries over a stag away. It seemed the dark flower among the dandelions was a doe.
It's all good! Kaye
Kaye remained frozen in place until the buck wandered down to the water to take a sip. If she was going to slip away...now would have been the time to do it. Slowly, she gathered her hooves under her to stand, wishing in that moment that she was a tiny fawn again and could easily flee without many taking notice. But she wasn't a fawn anymore.
Kaye rose to her hooves, her body tensing to run as she started to slowly back away from the stag.
He could see her start to
She was moving now, a slow backing away from him that implied a soon to be quick retreat. The pond seemed empty except for her. If she were to run off who knows how long he would be stuck here, bored and alone. That would not do.
He turned fully to face the doe, head held high to keep her in view and no longer pretending. "No, wait!" His voice had an odd tone, jumbled low and slightly nasal. He was not aware of it himself, only the dull vibrations in his head when he used it. "I won't hurt you."
No, wait! I won't hurt you.
She nibbled on her lip, debating. Stay and risk being lied to and hurt...or flee and be safe. But what if he was nice? Like Hra, or Noa? She didn't mind the weird voice, her voice had been off when she had had a beak. He didn't have a beak, but maybe something else was making him talk like that. She took a breath and nodded, taking a few steps back to her spot to nose a dandelion. Kaye remained standing though, keeping the stag just within her field of vision. Maybe he was nice.
Seeing her nod sent a flood
But she was staying and now was not the time for pondering his personal issues. There were more important things to do, such as not staring at her so stupidly. Moving his hooves slowly he stepped from the muddy shoreline back onto firmer ground all the while trying to keep the same distance between them. She didn't seem thoroughly convinced of his harmlessness and he didn't want to startle her. He kept the pond as much to his back as he could all the while. It wouldn't do to have someone sneak up on him while he was trying to make a new friend.
He held his head high to continue watching her but otherwise slouched to appear as nonthreatening as possible. "I-I am sorry. I did not mean to scare you... Just saw you and...alone?" His words came out slow, stilted as he tried to pronounce them correctly. It would not do to have a misunderstanding now.
"It's okay," she watched him
Hey sun sorry to interrupt

I'll start it :3

[[Sorry, sorry! My phone
He didn't want to admit that he had missed a small part of what she had said, but she seemed very fond of those dandelions. He personally didn't much care for them but that wasn't important. No, her very visible discomfort was the important bit. But she wasn't leaving, in fact she seemed to be inviting him to sit with her. Who was he to say no?
"Oh, yes..." Keeping his movements slow, he approached the edge of the flowers, close enough to be companionable, but not crowding her. He didn't sit directly by her side, choosing instead to face her at an angle. At least that way he should be able to watch her talk and see if anyone was approaching from behind her. He had faith that her nervousness would let him know if anyone appeared behind him.
"Sorry if scared you." He really hadn't thought out the logistics of a good conversation where he didn't sound like a creeper, but he was going to try. "Only curious."
It's alright! I'm sort of
It took her a few heartbeats to respond, "It's okay..." and it was. He seemed respectful enough, she noticed. He wasn't one of those pushy males that liked to hang around someone's personal bubble. Like Noa or Hra. Maybe he would be a new friend? She wasn't too sure. Maybe he was trying to pass the time. Oh well...she kind of was too.
"I'm...."she took a breath, "I'm Kaye. What's your name?"
[[Ah, it's no trouble. I'm
Kaye. Her name was Kaye. At least, he was certain that was what she had said. It was a simple name and for that he was immensely grateful. He really did not want to go through a fumbling display of idiocy in an attempt to understand something more complicated. He had been through that disaster enough thank you kindly. But now she wanted his name, which was more than reasonable and he was doing it again, wandering off in his own head instead of joining in with the here and now.
"Ah, Benedict. Ben is fine. I know can be trouble to say." He hoped she wouldn't think him slow or stupid for his stunted sentences, but it was so much easier to keep things short. At least, it kept his mistakes to a minimum. "Hope I am no bother. Just like company." He gave her a small, friendly smile as if to say, 'See? Harmless!'
Yeah, I'm fine. Just stress
"Benedict," she repeated with a nod only to shake her head at his next words, "No...not a bother....I'm just...shy." She glanced away at that. It wasn't a complete lie. But she did feel comfortable enough to say that within his presence.
[[Ah, that I can understand.
"As long as not a bother." His smile broadened, brightened with these words. Shy was okay, he could work with shy. Fear was not a thing he was any good at dealing with but shy? Just be slow and cautious and shy wouldn't stand a chance.
Though now things were beginning to seem awkward... "You like flowers?" Brilliant conversation starter there Benny-boy.
Kaye noticeably brightened as
Thanks!
[[Welcome! ^^]] The
The temptation to point out his fairly marked disinterest in floral anything vanished instantly upon Kaye's obvious joy. She liked them, it seemed to make her happy so talk of flowers he would. "I had a feeling they were."
He nosed idly at one of the many yellow stars about them, wrinkling his nose at their smell. Pungent and far from pleasant. "Like them better as puffs."
She nodded in agreement,
"Not flowers..." He winced
"I...sorry. I, um...like watching things?" No, no! That wasn't right either! "Other deer I mean. No! That sounds bad. No...Oh..." At this last failure to not completely embarrass himself, he tried desperately to bury his head among the very dandelions that had started the whole mess. Which only succeeded in getting him one tiny yellow flower in the eye and the rest tangled in his antlers.
Awe, poor baby. Blundering
Kaye was a little bit hurt when he mentioned he didn't like flowers, but it wasnt because he didn't like them, but because they had spent the majority of their conversation talking about them up to this point. And maybe, just maybe it was because he didn't like them as well. She didn't have much to say when he kept trying to correct his own words, she just sort of flicked an ear and let him stumble to some point.
"Like observing...?" she ventured quietly. Was that the word he was looking for? He did succeed in getting a little smile out of her when he tried to get the flowers to hide him. Silly stag! They were little dandelions, not the giant ones! How were they supposed to hidehim?
[[A talented
His head lolled to the side, just catching the end of the words leaving her lips, realizing quite suddenly that he may have missed a whole conversation in his embarrassment. But the only word he caught struck him immediately, "Observing! Yes!" He whipped his head upright in his excitement, trailing a few of the small yellow flowers on his antlers, one falling to hang over his ear adorably.
Then concern quickly flashed over to cover his excitement at her correction of his bad wording. She was smiling at least, a small smile but he still knew he'd made a fool of himself and hoped that she wouldn't hold it against him. "Do not think me strange, do you?"
"Yes." she answered
Oh, yes he is. xD She actually feels rather comfortable around him. Despite him not liking her dandelions.
