I've never paid attention to your art until now, but either everyone in here is just fawning over your work to be polite or are just completely blind. I would say no offense, but, as a community who jumps on every piece of art theft or blatant copy-cats I find this entire thread pretty bullshitty to be honest.

If you know Herla's art, one look at this page and clearly you are inspired by her. That's fair enough, she has some great techniques and her art is very popular. But mate that doesn't mean it's totally fine to completely rip her style. CLEARLY you have talent, so I really don't understand why you're not trying harder to make something unique of your own? Seriously? I mean I get the picture that you've been called out on this hundreds of times already and it can't possibly be nice for you. It must bother you, I don't get how it doesn't.

Anyway I'm going to call you out on one thing in particular. Feathers. Feathers are pretty hard to get a method that works, and Sight mastered that. Her colouring is unique and instantly recognizable because she uses a darker hue for the inner most parts and details the outer parts only. I've cut out a quick comparison to illustrate this against your recent work.



And before anyone jumps up saying WELL, that's how peacock feathers are, can't be helped, yadda yadda. Google peacock feathers and yeah peacock feathers don't look like this. Sight spent the time stylizing peacock feathers for herself to be simple, quick and effective to draw, and man does it work. In my opinion Sight is responcible for making feathered deer characters popular on TEF again because she's shown that yes, it IS possible to create awesome looking feathers, haha.

But if you bothered to use actual peacock feather pictures as a reference, no way in hell would you have come up with the same idea. Peacock feathers are long and wirey at the ends and those blobs of colour can be a variety of hues, and they are not even the same shape! You are too close to her style and colour pallet for it to be a coincidence or something you came up with yourself.

It is completely okay to be inspired by a technique, but that doesn't mean implementing it in an identical way. You are very accomplished with photoshop/whatever drawing program you use, and you are more than capable to come up with your own way of doing feathers. Everyone else who has a feathered deer manages to, so frankly with your abilities there is no excuse! Come oooon you must see this. The only reason I'm even posting is because I'd quite actually like your deer art if every one I looked at didn't scream "Herla-clone" "Sight-deer"; it is a disservice to yourself because you are good, honestly. Have more confidence to break away from this boring pattern (because seriously it must be boring for you and for Sight).

I really didn’t want to have to do this. But after a year of dealing with this from you NelileTu/Wudiin/OrangeJuiceMoon/firefly-soma/noshik, I feel I have no choice any longer. Tried to be patient with you, to give you chance after chance, tried to email you privately. None of these things have worked. Perhaps also I’m a bit disappointed in other people putting up so blatantly with this as well. So here I am doing the one thing I really, really hate spending my precious time on. Dealing with art theft. But I really don’t have a choice at this point. I don’t want to do livestreams anymore or share my art publically any longer because of you and I’m not going to put up with that any longer.

Let’s start with this one. OJM showed up under my nose with this character. Imp. My eyebrows rose a bit at this. The method of painting the feathers, their layout, the stripes on the feet…hmm it all looked a little too close to home. I didn’t say anything though. Imp got another feather design shortly after this that resembled Ravenflight’s new feather design that Apeldille had created as a commissioned piece for Kate Hallen. Wish I had that piece to show too but I couldn’t find it. Again, I didn’t say anything, shortly there after Imp’s design was changed yet again and I found it suitably original at that point that I didn’t feel the need to bring any of this other stuff up.


Let’s move on shall we?

I designed Herla’s mother. She had eye feathers and chest feathers. I hadn’t seen anything like that before and thought it was pretty original. Oh low and behold OJM’s Israel character started sporting them almost immediately. Pretty amazing, eh? I thought so. But again. I said nothing.

Then this happened:

OJM’s Israel character suddenly looked amazingly like a mixture of several of my designs. I had people showing me this and asking if I’d drawn it! I did confront OJM at this point, privately via email. She claimed to not realize where her inspiration came from. Yeah, I can tell you where it came from. My gallery. OJM did make changes to the character however and though I wasn’t pleased with the attitude that my concepts where public domain somehow, I let it go.

So then some time later, I commissioned Apeldille to do some Herla redesign work, focusing most especially on her feathers. Low and behold almost immediately, once again OJM’s character Israel suddenly got a massive feather overhaul!

She went so far as to totally copy Apeldille’s top view concept of the feather layout. Gee I enjoyed paying for that original design and having OJM steal it. Best thing evar. Again this was handled privately via email/skype. Didn’t really feel we got much resolution however.


So now the latest thing we have, guess this was the straw that broke the camel’s back. I designed another Herla ancestor. Amazingly, OJM has now created a new character almost immediately once again:

Now we have my unique method for drawing and coloring peacock feathers, Elandria and Danu’s eye feathers and white coloration, AND Danu’s stringy pin feather-like design all in one! My concepts are a shopping aisle apparently, just take what you like, don’t bother paying at the door, it’s all peachy!

Anyways, this is it. If you do this to me again, this is getting posted in a journal to every art gallery I’m a part of for the last 10 years. With links to all your galleries and usernames. I’ve had enough.

Finally replying to this because it's beyond ridiculous. I'm not even going to start on how I do the feathers, it'll start another fight and at this point I'm tired of it.

I'm just going to jump into the later stuff, starting with the first design of Israel. I told you, I received the adoptable from a friend, and designed them together. I'd used the argus pelt before but who wants to mess with it when adding so many stripes got simplified? I apologies for it and changed it. That tail, btw, as I explained, came from possible the same reference image, a mix of | click | abd and another I cannot locate on the search. You commented on Chalice's biom and I just copy paste this lines for some lineart. I'm sorry I didn't think it'd bother you if you didn't show any signs of being bothered by it.

Moving onto the second thing, which was poorly talked over, I did see the re-design and felt as if probably I could do better, and so I tried. It was relatively short lived and I believe your previous issue was the fact that he had similar 'stringy' feathers as herla did, and I again explained I just stopped painting them and went back to drawing. | click | painted feathers can be seen here. I again, apologized and thought we'd solved this issue.

And onto the last one. I don't like messy feathers, I don't paint them well as explained above unless they're small, short and need very little detail. I used friends to be sure I didn't 'take' from you, and all seemed peachy, the only worry being said pin feathers because before you didn't seem to like me drawing them. I thought adding fewer and making them a light color would /help/. I log in the next morning and I see you've went' and made an ancestor with nearly the same pose, color and of course, those feathers. I told you if you wanted to see I'd already had it set in stone I could gladly show you, and I received no reply so I kept on trucking on, and now it seems we're here.

Also, in came to the Imp feathers that resembled raven, I am assume you're referring to | click | in which case, as it said on her bio, were based off cockatoos. They didn't flare out, they went up and down and that was it.

Adding onto this, and I doubt it'll happen, if you'd want to clear the air I'd rather settle this on skype so no one can ignore emails or drop messages and be ignored. I'd rather have a neutral party present so it doesn't devolve into a screaming match between the pair of us because obviously there is bad air. I'd love nothing more than to clear this up, and actually find a compromise or some sort of solid ground. If you're done and out that's fine. You can choose, I can, or we can settle on someone who's willing.

I'll state It was just copied lines from old stuff I didn't like, I didn't want to draw a full out new pose for a few concepts so I just copied and pasted, it was nothing malicious, as you seem to think all this is. And again, not to be rude, we discussed an issue once, and the rest of it was you dropping an email me replying and you never sending anything again. I don't find that to be a discussion to work things out, and that just added to my reasons of not even wanting to respond as it left me with the thought 'what's the point?' If you can understand that.

If all you want is an apology then I'm sorry I've irritated you and/or stressed you out. I'll always stand that I never copied your ancestor work, or your ways of drawing out feathers, because I didn't. I will admit that I did use Herla's mask and you're e-doing of her feathers as inspiration to try new things, but no, I did not intend to copy or surf through your gallery to pick and choose what I wanted, you can say and believe it all you want, it wasn't, nor ever will be my intention.

And I don't have anything else of Imp...? I've only drawn her a little and that was it? If it's not in there I don't know what you're talking about, honestly.

I don’t think I really consider that an apology, more like still somehow blaming this on me. It’s my fault I’m upset about you stealing my concepts. It never changes.

Moving forward though, you need to withdraw this Herla/Elandria copy as a character or else massively redesign her. You’re calling her Mälo? I’ve been watching your CSS testing. She’s basically a Herla recolor, same type of feather headdress, same anatomy, same type of background story, with witches and magic and being sent to the forest to be kept safe. I do see you changed that part of the back story some or at least removed it. I don’t want to see it cropping up again.

But yeah, this needs to get an overhaul, go back to the drawing board, or I won’t be satisfied. You’ve got some friends who seem pretty unwilling to confront you on your behavior, why don’t you get away from leaching off me and move on to them instead. Since they don’t seem to object or anything. Take their ideas and concepts and stop taking mine. I’ve had it.

Saying "I am sorry you are offended" basically puts the blame on the victim, since you're not coming up for your mistakes but for the fact the other person is hurt. That's what Sight is saying there.
Now I personally don't like jumping in on something as if I'm part of some kind of mob, but some things have to be said here OJM. You're not very known for coming up with things yourself. Or then admitting you didn't come up with it yourself. Like in the case of you using the name "Wudiin". Now I'm not going to say anything about a name even though it's fairly hurtful to take something someone else did their best on, but that together with quite a few other things makes it very, very hard to trust you.
Like, for example now you're admitting you took inspiration for that kabuki mask from Sight's art. When we confronted you on it, you denied that. What's wrong with going to someone, going "hey that's a super cool concept, I was thinking if it'd be okay if I made my own version of it?" That way you don't offend anyone, and the artist who did their best on the concept to begin with can be either okay with that or not. Prevents drama, at least. But that's not my point here. We confronted you, you denied. NOW you admit to it. So how does anyone ever know that you're being honest? It really does nothing for your believability.

For a character to seem a lot like a Herla clone it does not need to be gold and blue, doesn't need to have no antlers or sport a full peacock crown. You seem to be evading the fact that your doe has a very, very similair shape of head-feathers like Herla, same anatomy as Herla, same background story as Herla, and being sent here to be safe. All those things individually? That wouldn't cause anyone worry. It's as you say, Sight doesn't own a monopoly on any of those things. Individually. This is a list where there's a lot of +'s inbetween. It causes worry, because it can be done so much differently!

I'm going to show you the feathers example here beause it's most reminiscent of Sight's art. As Dag pointed out to you very well earlier, even if you completely ignore that post.

The top two are yours and Herla's feathers. I traced these quickly for the idea of a silhouette. Below that are four other feathered does. I picked the first ones I could find, not the ones with a as-different-as-possible silhouette. Some of the silhouettes have layers, like Herla's feathers. Some of those silhouettes have a gentle curve at the top, like Herla's. Some of them are very long, like Herla's. And another has a forward curling feather, again like Herla's. Oh god! We better go after those people now! They all stole one individual thing! Yeah, no, that's not what I'm trying to show you. Your feathers sport ALL those things. It's kind of what I was trying to explain to you with the design+story+things thing.

I've told you this before I rememeber, on the art blog you deleted I suppose. It's so easy to be inspired by other people without noticing it. You'll draw something, take a second look, and go "oh dear I've seen this before." The amount of times I've done that! You know what's common courtesy then? Mixing it up. Doing something different. Don't go "Oh well who cares." That's very heartbreaking to other artists. We work hard on our concepts, so do you. Concept-theft is so hard to fight too because, well like you're showing, people outright deny anyway. The similairity is obvious, weather you meant to do it or not. That happens. Plenty of times people came to me like "psst mis, this looks a lot like that, you should take a second look at your work" in which I can admit hey yeah, it does! Thanks for telling! Thus (hopefully) my concepts all come out in an original fashion. I guess that's why working from adoptables off is nice too because you have some base to elaborate on. Instead of using another's (on purpose or not).

Threatening with how many of your friends find this ridiculous is a bit useless. It doesn't matter that they think it's fine. Of course they do! They're your friends! Tiny amount of people who have friends who'd deny them anything. But I'm pretty sure anyone can see the similairtity's here. And well, keeping your past record in mind (which is what Sight was trying to show you with that post with the images) It's hard to think it's just a coincidence. And even if it was, it'd be common courtesy to mix it up when pointed out.

Yeah, I get you I didn't mean it in a... blameful way if you can get that? Also I've explained countless times how I came by that username. I never knew this game had a community at that time, I just thought it was a browser thing. It hasn't been a long time since I picked TEF back up and found all this stuff out. And yeah, at the time I didn't think about it, and didn't think I did. Rethinking over a longer period of time though helps quite a bit.
I didn't want the space to look empty since In some of her images the feather's are 'swept back' and I don't like an empty look to it so I just filled it in, though I suppose I could angle them differently.

I'm not 'threatening', or didn't mean to sound threatening, she said something and I responded to it. I'm not using it as 'leverage', I would have named them if I wanted to and I didn't. Not all of them agree with it, they said it'd be best to tread carefully and obviously I threw caution to the wind. I thought they were being overly cautious and obviously I was rather wrong.

I'll work on the design, I actually have been since sometime last night and I'll upload whatever I have sometime this evening or tomorrow. I'm sorry this happened again, but I will try to be sure this is the last time somethin' like this goes down. Had some time to cool down after talking it out with some others.

Thiiiis isn't really a place to ask that sort of thing! If you need to ask just make a thread or search up some similar topics, some of these questions can really be easily answered if you'd take a moment or two to look around (:
