forest
..smiling through the trees, rose-faced children are dancing,
and bobbing and swaying, or romping and rousing,
and they are golden like
..blazing through the birch, lofty red hill grasses are leaning,
and rolling and waving, or rippling and surging
and they are whistling like
..weaving through the branches, crested cardinals are waiting,
and watching and surveying, or perching and shadowing
and they are patient like
..peering through the lichens, pale god-rocks are defending,
and preserving and presiding, or regarding and defying
and they are still like
..gazing through its river-tears, the stone-mouth is gaping,
and knowing and perceiving, or noting and understanding
and it is calm like
..rising through the honeyed air, the noble oak is chanting,
and droning and rustling, or grasping and securing
and it is wild with life like
..the forest with all of its everythings
the forest is a festival.
