There was no response from the strange fawn. Orick tilted his head, wondering a moment before shifting uncertainly. He'd learned the hard way that not all the animals in these strange woods had the ability or the capacity for speech. He recalled how foolish he'd felt after trying to strike up a conversation with a bullfrog one lonely evening by the pond.
He could tell that wasn't the case with this fawn, he could tell... that he was aware of him... He saw just an instant of the shock on his own face before reluctantly returning to the darkness of his own mind. He was able to smooth out his expression, but his heart was pounding in panic and he trembled lightly. No one had ever noticed him before. He cursed himself, he should have known, this place was so different from anywhere he'd been before, everything was different.
"I... I..." He cleared his throat and tried again, "Tis awfully cold this day, mind that thou stayest warm and comfortable lest thou fall ill..." He cringed a bit a his own pathetic attempt at light conversation, too unnerved to worry about adhering to modern dialect. He didn't have much hope that it would fool the fawn, young or otherwise.
The feeling of something that was not his own within his mind had bothered Knrs for a brief moment. The dusts in his body seemed to stiffen slightly. Then the thought came to him that this deer, like many deer here and the forest itself, might have some sort of power running through his veins.
The feeling intensified as Knrs looked at the buck's shocked face. It smoothed out quickly, however, and Knrs knew that the creature was deep within his own mind, thinking many things. Thinking, and maybe seeing things. Not see in the normal sense, but feeling it within him, or possibly something much more complicated.
As the stag began to speak, commenting at the chill of the fall's morning, a desire to comfort the stranger crossed Knrs's heart, and he came closer to press his head against the shoulder of the stag, maybe in some strange attempt to possibly warm up the stranger if he were cold. His mind, however calm his exterior might have seemed, was teeming with questions about this stag - there was something powerful in him, and Knrs knew he was the reason something inside himself didn't feel as it should.

OOC; Oh my god, I love the
I'm glad I let you repost, I would've just made something generic.

Orick stiffened again at the fawns touch. He turned his face away from the little one, feeling sick and ashamed. The one secret he'd decided to keep and he couldn't even keep it from a child. He breathed slowly, trying to calm himself. He knew very well that he was not the strangest creature in these woods, there were others with their own abilities, their own twists and quirks of what could be considered 'natural'. This did little to reassure him though, it was as if the fear of judgement had been branded into his mind and no amount of fact was going to change it.
With a shaking foreleg, he attempted to rub at his empty eyes. He sighed heavily in frustration when he was met with the fabric of his makeshift blindfold. Without looking back, he eased his focus back into the fawns mind. His false vision returning to see little more than a wall of his own dark brown fur. The next thing he noticed was the pure compassion in the little one's mind. But why? It's not as if he deserved it...
The next dreaded step was harder, he couldn't remember the last time he'd ever tried it. The feeling in his head was like releasing a fist clenched so hard and for so long that it had lost all feeling. He had to force his way past his own subconscious restraints, back to that point in which he could hear passing thoughts as clearly as spoken words. He had to know if the fawn suspected...
"God help me, he knows..." He didn't know how or what, but he knew that Orick was to blame for it.
After another deep breath for stability he finally spoke, "You are a bright one, I see. Yes, that would be me you're sensing. I mean no harm, truly. Just... visiting." He chuckled once nervously, trying hard to maintain a light atmosphere. "I would ask if you could keep a secret, but it would seem I have nothing to fear in that regard, hm?" he turned back to the fawn made of dust and light almost reluctantly.
OOC: Oh god and I love your
Also, sorry for the slow reply - it's hard to come up with something good to your artness~
Knrs's lights glowed a bit brighter, his dusty form rippling in and out of focus. He had met a few deer since landing in the woods, true, but none like this. He could feel the stag in his head? And so the answer was, simply, that the stranger had read his thoughts. Knrs watched the buck rub at his eyes, noticing the frustration on the deer's face when he was met by the handkerchief.
But this deer had looked into Knrs's mind! All this time trying to address the other deer in the woods with hops and motions and carvings in the dirt, and now someone existed that could understand his mind's speech! The fawn felt a little stab of selfishness thinking how much he wanted the buck to accompany him for many days. He felt lonely - he had yet to truly speak to anyone in the billions of years since he was formed. He felt closer to this stranger than he had any other deer in the woods.
Hearing the stranger speak, Knrs pushed his ears forward to listen, catching a portion of "...mean no harm, truly. Just...visiting." He glittered a bit, looking up to the buck. Concentrating, he thought over and over the words "I mean no harm to you, as well." They echoed in his brain, and his body began to throb as he kept his concentration on the words, hoping for everything that he was that the buck would hear him.
OOC; Oh thank you, I am so
-------------
He looked at the buck with excitement... Er, no the fawn looked at him. He bit his lip in consternation, he'd forgotten just how... intimate it was being this close to the present thoughts of another. Another pang of guilt crept through him on the heels of memories. There had been a time, long ago before he'd known any better, when his mind had run on this same 'frequency' at all times. No one had been safe from his intrusions.
He did notice a marked ease of tension in his own body now, having removed that restraint on his mind. Like a weight had been lifted off his shoulders. The fawns mind raced with excitement to the point that's Orick's own pulse quickened. He heard his 'selfish' wish and the wave loneliness that followed it.
Orick immediately shied from these obviously private thoughts, feeling like a thief. He temporarily lost sight of himself again in his retreat, left alone in the dark again with his thoughts. But it was too late, he'd heard too much again. After another lame attempt to paw at his covered eyes he did recalled a single thought. No, this fawn couldn't speak at all it seemed. He had to force images from his mind, images of strangers and trying to communicate with them through body language alone.
But that simply wasn't going to work in their case here was it? With a reluctant sigh he returned to the fawns mind, noting in the back of his own how expansive it felt, for one who seemed so young there was obviously a lot going on in there.
He jumped a bit hearing the fawn's 'voice' in his mind, the little guy concentrating so hard, wanting so badly to be heard.
"I... I know child." He replied to the thought, although it sounded like an admission of guilt. "Pardon me if I seem uncertain. You gave me a bit of a shock is all." He smiled slightly, "My name is Orick, and it's a pleasure to meet you little one." His smile faded a bit, remembering everything he'd just heard,"But uh... If at any moment you would prefer to have your privacy back you must not hesitate to tell me at once..." His stance sinking in on itself as he spoke.

OOC; My god... why don't I just write a freaking novel? DX
OOC: Oh gawd I am so sorry
Knrs's body seemed to lightly settle once again. This buck - Orick was his name, it seemed - had heard his thoughts, his plea to finally be heard was answered. A piece of him thanked the Gods of the forest, thanked them for this chance encounter.
In the expanse of his mind, Knrs could see the future he wanted - a future with a buck that could read his thoughts and tell other deer what the fawn wanted to say. No longer would the stardust deer need to panic when unable to get a message across. He--
No, he couldn't ask for all that. This deer had a life to get to. And while a few days might be acceptable to travel together, Knrs knew he would have to leave his new friend to his own path. But joining him on that path seemed the largest desire in Knrs...he had no path of his own, after all, it seemed like...
"Thank you," Knrs thoughts forcefully, making sure it would be heard. "Thank you for hearing me." His body shivered in a slight fearful pleasure. The feeling of his companion in the back of his head began to feel a lot more comfortable...he wished it to stay, to become a familiar comfort and not a foreign one. He feared feeling the empty world crawl into him once again.
OOC: Oh no you're fine, I saw
And I promise to stop complaining about the length, I'd just sat down with the intention of making that last one shorter and it was the longest one yet. XD
---------------------------------------------------------
Orick felt a joyful peace settle over the fawns mind. A slight smile slowly emerged on his own face.
He had started to speak when his companions mind began wandering down the road of personal fantasies once again. Flinching slightly he mentally backed away. This time he was able to make the necessary adjustment so as not to hear these private thoughts. He sighed with relief, but was taken off guard again when he sensed a surge of concentration.
Returning just as quickly, he managed to catch his reply. He wondered to himself if there wasn't a better way to do this. He imagined it would take practice but he hoped that he could find a better 'place' in his mind where he could only hear the thoughts specifically directed at him. It seemed Orick had his own fantasies.
He smiled again, a bit wryly this time "It's no trouble at all, really." Again he felt that joy in his mind and it made him wonder... Maybe this would be okay. Perhaps... If he were truly helping this fawn or making him happy through what he could do, then maybe he wouldn't be judged quite so harshly in the hereafter. Perhaps, it wasn't just a curse after all...
He fidgeted with his blindfold, not believing the thought for an instant. Still, that sad resignation hung heavy in the fawns mind, a very familiar feeling to Orick. The feeling that you simply couldn't do something that everyone else could, to be disabled. And this poor fawn didn't even have the luxury of getting around it the way Orick tried to. He suddenly felt obligated to hear him out, seeing as there was a very good chance he was the only one who could.
"Do you have a name?"
OOC: Heh, I doubted anyone
Ooohh yes you should write! I have a heart for writing as well~
Caught off guard by the question, Knrs was brought back to reality. He realized that a portion of his body had begun to fade out into a clouded mass, like the galaxy he once was. He looked at it for a moment, then back at the buck as he fidgeted with his blindfold. Such a pretty blindfold it was. Knrs inspected the beautiful lacy weavings of it.
"I am Knrs," he though, a bit less forceful than before. He had a feeling the buck was able to read him better than he had first gathered. "Knrs, of the stars in the sky." He remembered his body was losing shape, and so took a moment to pull his lower half together, back into the shape of legs. His glowing body rippled out of focus before sharpening.
"And you...you can hear my thoughts, can you not?" Knrs asked. Suddenly, he felt strange for asking. Of course Orick could...but he wanted to know more. The curiosity was killing him inside.
OOC: It was kinda killing me
This has been awesome so far. X3
-------------------------
"From the stars, you say? How remarkable." His brow creased, having a hard time wrapping his mind around such a thing, "But there are many mysterious things in this forest, so why am I at all surprised?" He chuckled lightly.
"I, well... Yes, I can hear your thoughts. I cannot say how or why, it is simply how it always has been in my case." He shifted uncomfortably, he couldn't recall ever talking about his unusual trait with anyone. Maybe his neighbor... but that was a lifetime ago, if not several.
But Knrs's mention of his unusual origins, and the odd thought that had crossed his mind (something about pulling himself back together?) had his own curiosity resurfacing. He'd seen a little of his companions unorthodox physiology, but his method of cheating his disability only allowed so much.
"What would you say to maybe stopping by the pond for a moment?" He said, standing and shaking himself off, "You see I... I can see what it is that you see. And while I have a very good view of myself, I'm curious to see how you look." His head lowered, feeling awkward making the request, but his ears were already searching for the sound of running water and frogs.
OOC: eck, I've been so slow
--
Knrs flickered a bit for a moment, then slowly began to approach the buck. He was weary of this Orick, even if less than anyone else might of been - it was more a fear of upsetting his new friend than a fear of the lack of eyes and the blood, even if covered in the dirty handkerchief. Knrs had seen much carnage - such things no longer phased him after billions of years surveying wars. Even the blood on the face of this deer was a more peaceful sight than the fighting he had seen.
Clearing his mind of those memories, Knrs came up beside the buck to help him up to his feet, planning to take him to the water's edge along with himself. The cold sandpaper-like breeze of Knrs's body gently touched the flank of his companion, and the fawn urged Orick to come to his feet. "We shall go to see the water together," he thought, half to himself and half to the part of him that felt occupied by someone else. He looked out at the surroundings, his side still against the buck's so as tofeel if he moved or not. There were trees all about, and although the sun was rising, the floor of the woods was still quite dark. Still, the leaves and the blades of grass had a golden tinge to them, and Knrs inspected them slowly, hoping his companion would enjoy the view of his world. Out before them, he could see off in the distance a wave of blue - the pond. They weren't too far, he concluded, and if he kept the space between Orick and himself closed tight, he might be able to easily guide his blind friend to the pond without any accidents.
Silly fawn - he was already planning out how he would get about with Orick for many days beyond this one. He felt alone for a moment at the thought that, in all probability, this would never happen. But someone heard him, and if they decided to leave after so long, at least he could be thankful for the time they had already shared. He looked at Orick, waiting for him to stand from against the tree where he sat. "Come, I'll show you all you wish to see..." he thought lowly to himself hopefully.
(No subject)
----
Orick was taken aback by the contact yet again. He didn't flinch away this time however, maybe he was getting used to it. He did pause a moment wondering what it's intended purpose was, just because interacting with Knrs required he take more liberties than was normal or desired it didn't mean he was going to abuse them.
The nudge clarified it to him though. "He is trying to help?" The thought was followed by a short burst of indignation. This was quickly replaced with guilt and anger at himself, always so quick to misjudge the sincerity of another... The little one had not wronged him, "...yet..."
"Oh, that will not be necessary." He started hesitantly, "How do you suppose I got here?" He ended with a chuckle.
He walked a few steps towards the pond, using his hearing to determine the direction and muscle memory to know where to step. He turned back with a small smile, "Having you nearby will be assistance enough."
"Thank you though..." His tone became serious again, ears lowering a bit. Touched by the his companions compassion in both his offer to help and his last thought.
I'll do Knrs's words in
---
Watching the buck stand and begin to walk gave Knrs a jump start, and in the child-like ecstasy of his ways he bound across the green to join Orick at his side. With a happy flicker, the stardust fawn stood close to his companion, walking at his pace. And all the while he kept his gaze out along the forest; this act was half for Orick and still half for himself, for he was still quite new to the woods. In fact, he had only been once to the pond... He had seen a deer fall in and become a fish! What fun it looked! But Knrs's body would not sink, and he was forced to stand atop the surface looking at the other deer jump into the magic....
After a few paces, Knrs looked down at the grass over which he walked. It was only then that he noticed the blood smeared over the forelegs of his companion. "Your legs...do they ail you?" Knrs thought suddenly, worry taking his body. He had seen the eyes - albeit a small glimpse - but with blood on his legs, was it safe to assume Orick was wounded? Knrs thought maybe it would be best not to walk, but he followed the pace of the buck, looking to the red on his fur.
Yeah, that's how I always do
-----------------------
Orick smiled as Knrs bounded up next to him, one that felt decidedly genuine. There was something infectious about the little ones demeanor that had his own spirits feeling lighter than they had in a very long time. That combined with an actual view of where they were going and he could almost say he felt downright cheerful.
So then the unexpected question caught him completely off guard. His smile faded as his mind raced to come up with a suitable response. "Oh, no. No I am perfectly fine. Do not worry yourself." He knew he couldn't leave it at that however, he had to have some explanation to offer, "I... It comes from trying to keep myself clean, you see." He went on, missing a step in order to rub away the blood that managed to escape from underneath his handkerchief. There not a complete lie, more like a half-truth. Spare the child that wasn't a child the other details for now.
The came to pond then, and Orick sat down on the bank. It was one of those rare moments that no one else seemed to be there. His ears were held high in speculation, was this really the same pond he visited so often? He'd never been so close with someone else there to see it for him. Feeling almost lost he left his companions thoughts a moment in order to just listen. There was the lapping of tiny waves at his feet, the frogs singing to one another, and farther away the murmur of the stream that fed the pond. "Yes, this is the right place", he thought with a small grin. He wondered again what would have happened if he'd been deafened rather than blinded. He wagered he would have gone mad long ago. Sometimes, sound alone was enough.
Watching his friend sit down
With a small fear, Knrs stepped out onto the water, his eyes still surveying the trees on the banks. His feet felt like they were on mud, squishing down faintly before stopping. He could walk on water, true, but a part of him wanted to know how it looked from underneath that glassy surface. And what if the same happened in reverse? What if he were unable to break the surface after being below for such a time? As he walked along the surface a few more paces, a fear gripped him that he might actually fall in.
But he looked down anyways. He looked down and he saw the reflection of a deer-shaped mass of stardust. It glowed so bright, as a star naturally would, and for a moment Knrs wondered if it was really him. It was, he knew then, cocking his ears at the image. His shape rippled in the mirror.

Without moving from his place on the bank, head held back letting the brisk but gentle winter breeze flow over his features in a cold stream, he returned to his place in the starry fawns mind. How strange to think of it as 'his' place, and yet it was hard not to when every time he returned he found the same feeling of warmth and welcoming.
This time however he was surprised to find fear in the little one's mind. His mouth fell open, ready to question the feeling, when his train of thought was yet again derailed by what he saw. The fawns reflection was even more astonishing than Orick would have guessed. Suddenly able to piece together those spare glimpses, the transparent muzzle or the occasional glance at a glittering hoof, into a picture of a whole being, one that was unlike anything he'd yet seen in these strange woods.
"You really are quite the little miracle, are you not?" Orick finally spoke, a surprised grin on his face. "And if that was not enough, he even walks on water!" He laughed aloud at the thought. He was reminded again of their introduction, "From the stars, indeed." He could imagine it now, seeing the reflection on the dark water, as dark as the night sky, and the glittering dust as stars embedded in the void, albeit with far more deliberate shape and intent than any constellation.
I'll try my best to write in
Also, I'm trying out his new speech style...I hope that's ok ./////.;;
--
Knrs watched himself for a moment, knowing that both the water and his own body were moving like small waves. The glowing white masses as tiny stars twinkled in his being. He lifted a forefoot and shook his hoof at the water, showing a bit more of himself in the glassy mirror of the pond. Through his body, he could faintly see some fish swimming in a circle a few yards below where he stood. His vision of himself blurred as he focused on them. His reflection became like that of any galaxy found in the sky - void and shapeless.
At the voice of his companion, Knrs's focus pulled back to his reflection. He could see the sky above himself...he remembered how cold and lonely it was up there...for a moment his mind wrapped around the feeling of someone else inside, fearing for all he was worth of it leaving again. Then he heard Orick's faint laughing from the banks, and he shook with a small laughter in himself. "Heheh." He wasn't quite sure what they were laughing at, but boy did it feel good!
As his mental laughter faded, Knrs looked back to his friend on the earth. He cocked his ears forward, making sure to catch some of his own flank in his view for his companion's sake. "It's strange," he finally thought, pondering the whole notion of someone reading his thoughts. "What...what is it like..?"
Orick watched The fawns shape
Knrs's question distracted him from his own wandering thoughts. His smile replaced with a pensive frown as he wondered how to explain such a thing.
"Oh, it is... It is not so different from hearing spoken words. Or rather, the words are not heard so much as is it that I am made to think them myself. I hear them in my own mind, as if they were my own thoughts."The topic was making him increasingly uneasy. Feeling the need to busy himself somehow he stood and waded a short ways into the still water. He knelt in the shallow water, wetting his legs from the knee down and began rubbing at them in an attempt to clean the stains from his pelt.
"Similarly to speech though, I can only 'hear' thoughts within a certain proximity to the thinker. They even grow fainter or louder depending on how close I am." His head was down, seemingly intent on what he was doing, his ears however flicked around in an effort to assure himself that he and the fawn were truly alone.
Taking advantage of the impromptu mirror of his companions view as it returned to him again, he looked at his leg. He couldn't quite hold back his sneer as he noticed that while the stains had faded significantly, they were still quite visible. It would seem they were now as much a part of him as he empty eyes.
I cannot express how sorry I
--
Knrs twinkled for a moment, but noticed the sneer on Orick's face and dimmed a bit. "I am sorry," he thought quietly, lowering his ears and stare slightly. He wondered then if the buck was able to even hear the though, and so he repeated himself a bit louder; "I apologize." He watched as Orick cleaned himself and cocked his head, but took the chance then to look down at himself in the reflection of the pool once again. "If my questions bother you, you do not have to answer."
Suddenly, the stardust faun had an idea. He perked his ears and looked at the buck, a feeling of hopeful happiness taking him. The vision in his mind of Orick began to fade to images of an eternal dark void...the universe. All around glittered brilliant stars. Swimming between these lights were enormous clouds of coloured dust, much like Knrs himself. The image turned to watch the whole sky of space as it flickered in a light unlike those that had ever been seen on Earth. "This is my home...this is where I come from," Knrs thought alongside the pictures of a young nebula. The images flew past worlds of other life far, far away and a dark emptiness as it drank up the surrounding light.
It's all good, had to take a
----------------------
"There is no need for that..." Orick replied, chagrined, "I simply do not speak of these things often, but that is no fault of yours."
He hung his head as he spoke, staring unseeing into the now murky water around his feet. His flicking ears froze suddenly as his attention was derailed by the gradual transition of his companion's thoughts from words to pictures.
A tentative smile pulled at one corner of his mouth. His vision filling with images both strange and familiar. The starlight burned brighter in the little one's mind than he ever remembered from his own childhood gazing at the same stars alongside his brother and sister.
His grin faded as he lifted his head, "Thank you... It has been a long time since I last saw the night sky..." He tried to bring back the smile, but it didn't feel right anymore.

The faun's gaze slowly returned from the world which he had emerged from. He looked to Orick, half catching the attempt at another smile. Though he now focused on the red waters which rippled by Orick's feet, he still managed to gain images of memories...images of vast, starry skies and twisting galaxies. A nostalgic feeling flowed over him, flowed like the waters that he stood on.
"You are very welcome, friend." Knrs thought gently, mimicking what he would assume would be a smile, though it didn't happen to show on his dusty face. The feeling was there, though, and to him that was all that mattered...a feeling... "If ever you wish to see more...to see anything at all, you mustn't hesitate to tell me." His mental images were torn between the water at Orick's feet, fading from red to clear once again, and the reel of memories from the sky far, far away.
Gonna freak out one last time
------------------------------
"Ah... no, I could not ask such a thing..." Was this all not wrong enough as it was? How could he ask anything more of the fawn, his... friend, when he didn't even deserve what he'd already been given?
That brought to mind a question he'd asked the starry fawn, one he hadn't really received an answer to. But how to bring the topic up without damaging the innocent joy he felt in the Krns's mind?
After a moment of deliberation, he decided to simply blurt it out as best he could.
"Ah, but... There is still the matter then... Well, you see... It is my understanfing that these conversations are to be kept between the two of us, do you not agree? I... I am not in the habit of sharing certain information with just anyone. We, could however, not carry on like this if not for a bit of give and take on both our parts but..." He bit his lip, realizing he babbling.
Sure the child was mute, but there were always ways of getting a message across. If nothing else he'd learned that much from this encounter.
