NEWS~ REQUESTS ARE NOW CLOSED (17th Jan)
Hi everyone
I wanted to make a note here that characters with very long hair will hitherto use the new 'walk' cycle, which I had originally planned to keep to my own.
The reason for this, is that to properly animate long hair billowing at a fast pace would be too complex. It would take far too long for me to draw correctly and would be unreasonably taxing to everyone's computers.
I gave more thought to this, and decided not to give people a choice of animation now that I have two to work from. If I were to give everyone that choice, I would also have to give all my past requestees that choice, and I'd potentially have to re-do old requests again with a different animation. This wouldn't be fair on everyone still waiting to get theirs done. Where possible, I will create all other requests using the 'run' animation as normal.
I'm also closing requests at this point. We're up to 3 pages of requests now, and I still have about 6 left to do on the first page! xD I'm not sure I will ever get all of these done, but I certainly have enough to keep me occupied for a long time already.

WHAT IS THIS?!
Having had a burst of inspiration out of wtf-nowhere lately, I ended up with a neat little running deer animation that I can easily customise (to an extent). So I'm taking requests for a while, but I have a couple of requests of you in return~
-Provide a picture or description of your deer.
-Currently I am only doing this one 'Running' animation, so please do not request a different pose at this time.
The animation is by far the most time-consuming process and doing that would take me days to complete each request! Domo arigatou. :3
-Please note that excessive detail may be difficult;
As I am creating these for free, I don't want to spend more than an hour or two on each one (unless I'm really having fun with it!)
-Related to the above point, some artistic liberty may be exercised, but I'll try to stay as faithful to your design as possible.
Detail in certain areas may be hard to achieve due to all the bodypieces moving around, but I'll do my best. I may have to make some alterations though. Also, don't be suprised if little 'extras' find their way in occasionally, depending on what I've read about your character.
-But having said this, if there's any unique features your deer has, don't be afraid to mention them!
I'll decide as I go whether I can manage it or not.
-ONE PER PERSON-
This is just so I can serve different people and not get burnt out doing 1 person's fifty-bajillion deer!
-When using these in your signature, please be aware that smaller is better.
I would strongly suggest not exceeding the default size I give you, which is 315x240, on these boards. However, you are free to display this outside of the TEF community, and there you can increase the size to whatever you want!
(Replace all { } with < > symbols when you copy it and replace YOUR_URL_HERE with the Url for your personal file-- also I would heartily recommend not exceeding this size, as large sigs can be rather annoying to some people. But it can be made smaller or bigger as you wish, and no detail will be lost.)
**A note regarding potential issues**
I am keenly aware that SWF files are inherantly more CPU-intensive than GIF files. The reason I went with SWF is because the GIFs weren't animating properly, and they had very bad issues with colour and transparency. So, I am going to be watching this very carefully to ensure it doesn't start causing people problems. Do note however that I have made every effort to optimize these animations so that they are lightweight and non-disruptive (they are barely 40kb each! Most gifs weigh in well over 100kb, sometimes even over 1mb!). Nevertheless, users with slow computers may notice a difference. Please let me know if it becomes unbearable and I will seek another alternative. Thank you~

I have seen these around the site during my lurking and I was trying to find out who was making them for ever!
I just wanted to say that these are gorgeous and so well done. The animation is so smooth and the anatomy on them is spot on. I especially like the little swirls of dust that fly up off the hooves, it is a great touch! I'd love one of my deer, but I can see your request list is already insanely long!

I was curious, are you taking animation in school or is this just something you enjoy in your spare time?
In answer to your question, I've never taken any classes. I was a complete newbie to Flash two years ago, when I joined Whirled and had great interest in contributing as a creator there. I taught myself basically from scratch, using Whirled as a training ground. I learned pretty much everything I know about it due to the time I spent developing content there. I had lots of help, of course. I'm not good with Actionscript, coding frustrates and bores me... but all of the knowledge of movement and motion is apparently innate. I love seeing living things in motion.
Less specifically, animation has always been a hidden interest, one I'd never focused on before. I've occasionally dabbled with it, though. Pretty much the only thing I ever made (and never finished) was this, back in '05: http://img64.imageshack.us/img64/2725/dragonfly.gif
That was done during boring college classes, lol. Didn't use any special software, just painted each frame and then used some cheap GIF compiler to put them together. Even then, motion felt very natural to me. I especially like wings, and seeing poorly-animated wings always bugs me to no end!

I had an idea for a shortstory inspired by your deer, but I didn't want to write them as the wrong gender. I looked everywhere for some indication, but couldn't find any.
Finally, I found where all these beautiful animated deer are coming from!
They're absolutely wonderful. If you ever open up requests again (and I decide to stick with a character design for more than a week) I would love to have one! I can't stop staring at them when I see them on the boards. Great work. <3

I think I remember seeing your dragon animation before! I'm amazed that you painted every layer, that is true dedication. The most complicated things I've ever animated are 50 by 50px avatars for deviantART.
I have always wanted to learn flash but it's one thing that eludes me. At least I get to see other peoples work and admire it!
@Quad: Well he's sort of become a character by accident, over time, so I've never really written a bio or anything (though I should)... it's a "he". And I'd love to read a story about him! If you need any more details about him, let me know. He has a pretty basic personality for now, but the main points are his mature age, the moss that covers his back and antlers (from long periods of AFKness, no doubt) and his gentle, fun-loving nature.
@Everyone: Once again, sorry for my preoccupation lately. I haven't abandoned this, just going through it much, much slower. xD But I'm going to get Sithrim done today, at least.

Sithrim is done. But I couldn't find his hair colour!
I saw in a couple of pictures that it may have been blonde, but honestly, when I painted it that way, it didn't look too good... so in the end I settled on a dull-ish brown. I will change it if it's wrong, no problem.
His eyes are hard to see, unfortunately, but their colour is yellow/green. It's a bit dark because it's in the shadow of his hair. May be more visible if viewed fullscreen? I'd recommend that to see his face and dreadlock details better, also. Quite proud of that, human faces are pretty difficult (but I wanted the challenge ).
Page 3? What page do you think I'm on? I'm still doing all the requests from page 1.
I haven't forgotten any. I don't have any remembered. I'm simply looking at each post and if it says "can you do X for me?" then that becomes my next task. x)
I dug a bit deeper and found more refs for Sithrim, and have revised much of his head/antler design. The updated file and URL are now on the first post. Looks much better now, IMO.

I changed his hair after looking at some artwork, including those in your DeviantArt gallery. None of them showed his 'human' hair colour (they didn't actually have hair, but since I'd already drawn it I decided to keep it) so I went back and changed it.
I can change it back if you'd prefer? I really don't mind.
