It was raining the day she left.
Her hoof prints in the fresh mud had quickly been washed away with in mere minute’s leaving no sign of where the doe had been or where she was going.
It could be said that she had simply searched for shelter from the cold rain, or that the young doe had hidden herself away to die in some hole deep within the forest.
It was uncertain though. The only one who would know the truth was Night Shade herself.
Instinct had made her driven to hide away. It was true that she had picked a place to nest in advance, but that spot proved unsatisfactory after a time.
Too many knew about it and by instinct, Night wished to be alone and secretive.
Reason however told her she was stupid to have left. She was in poor condition, far too poor to birth a fawn on her own.
She knew she needed help, but the need to hide had over powered her since of reason and perhaps there was more to it than that, just a day before she had a discussion with her adoptive mother Emmy.
A cloud had lingered over them the whole time they spoke and Night knew why. She was tired, sick and weak. Death lurked in the corner of her eyes at all times and loomed over her like a shadow.
Death was a possibility that was becoming all too real to the doe and she didn’t want those who cared about her to see her die.She was too proud
They could find out later, if her remains were stumbled upon one day, or they could go on living with the fact that she vanished and cling to the hope that she would return one day.
Nature has a way of being cruel. Night had all the help she needed to live, but nature would not have it that way.
She was a weak link in the chain and to Mother Nature, deserved the fate she had been dealt. It was for this reason that instinct would betray her and there was nothing that could be done…
Unless she was found…
She rested her head on the hard ground and watched the rain fall from the sky from her underground hide out.
Her ears would flick at every little sound. Darkness covered her like a blanket.
The only light that could be seen was though a small hole at the mouth of the tunnel.
The doe closed her tired eyes and slept soundly for several hours, until a sharp pain in her side caused her to stir.
She grunted and shifted her weight around, grinding her teeth together like chalk on a chalk board until the pain subsided.
It would not be long now. The fawn could come at any time.
A tear ran down her face and she looked longingly up at the dimly lit entrance.
She wanted to run out, but she could not move. Her strength was gone. Her fate was out of her grasp now.
She had only one hope..
She let out one small pleading whimper.
”I’m sorry..please..find me..”
She really didn’t want to die..or at least not alone…she had been stupid to leave
My crappy explanation for why Night went missing
I feel so sorry for poor
I hope she's found. ._.

The brute's head lifted, nares flaring wide as he took in deep breaths of the cold forest air. He huffed loudly, watching the water drip from the leaves around his body.
Something was wrong.
He growled frustrated, his front legs straightening and he heaved himself up into a stand, shaking the water and dirt from his ebony coat. His torn ears pricked forward, straining against his poll as he listened.
He snorted loudly, lowering his head he snuffled over the grass, beginning his slow walk over toward the spot where his mate had been laying, breathing over it quietly. His gaze lifted, twisting his head so his good eye scanned the forest, blind eye sliding over the landscape.
He lifted his head, chest cavity expanding as he took in a huge breath, roaring loudly for her. He quieted, listening before he looked off through the grass, sniffing over it, trying to track her scent.
He struck out angrily, baring his teeth in frustration, the rain had all but destroyed her scent. He would have to find her by following the mark, far from convenient but he would find her.
He always found her.
He set off, heavy set legs splashing through the mud. Dark stains dotted his white fur, matted it as he continued to walk. He ignored all he passed, mind focused on the dim pull of his mate.
A dark tunnel stood to his right after he finally stopped. She was close. He called again loudly, turning he made his way to the tunnel. His mate...she was there.
"N-Night? W-where are
"N-Night...? Night?"She lifted her head to smell the air again...the pine smell of the forest again...she could not detect her friends scent. Her eyes flashed.
She looked around for every little bit of flattened grass, everywhere she found a hint of her friend's pitch black fur. But she backed away when she realized that she had gone out of the forest, into the lands beyond. She clenched her teeth.
"I cannot leave...
I wish you luck."

Such a sharp, yet blissful sound escaped not one corner of the forest, naturally weaving its way down the deepest, darkest rabbit hole where terror and regret called home.
And with it, perhaps, a small revelation, a small glimmer of hope in knowing the outside world was still there.
The outside world was listening.

She slept restlessly,
Her dreams were filled with familiar faces, friends and loved ones. Those perhaps she should have spent more time with.
She relived her days in the forest when she was reborn as a fawn.
Her first time meeting Emmy.
When she had called her mother.
Her times spent stalking the grumpy old Collector.
Falling in love
Being hurt
Finding love again.
The drama that came from the odd triangle and how happy and sad she had been when her two loves fight was finished
The birth of Sariel
She had lived a full life, but there could be more to it right?..
In her dream’s she unknowingly called out for help.
Someone would know where to find her.
Or at least she hoped

He slowed near the cave, ears
She was close. Very close.
He lowered his head slowly, snuffling over the long blades, beginning to make a systematic search through the grass. He had guessed she had gone into the cave... but if she was too weak it very well could be she had collapsed outside.
His head lifted, great tines reaching for the sky as he bellowed again for her, freezing in place to listen. His ears flashed back and forth, trying to pick up any sign of his mate.
He snarled angrily, knashing his sharp fangs together as be once again resumed his search. He continued to look toward the cave. He muttered heavily, slowing before it as his search finally brought him there, gazing into the darkness quietly.

From the misty shroud of a nearby willow, the mother moose watched the large forbidding stag approach the empty nesting grounds, and then stalk off into the rain, bellowing as he went. For a large animal, she could move surprisingly quiet, and she followed him as he tracked through the mud and grass. She had no doubt that this was the little doe's mate, he could only be a demon, and she knew that he must be able to find her, but she did not wish to reveal herself to him just yet...he was in a dangerous mood.
She saw him pause at a small cave in the ground, little more than a hole, and in her heart she knew the little doe was there. With a sad sigh, the cow approached slowly, laying herself down on the ground nearby the little hole, her head low in the grass to catch the scents and sounds that Night would give when she was in need.
Softly she whispered a blessing for new mothers.
With the first light of the sun, when the day is done,
In your smiles, and your tears, through your worries and your fears,
You are a blessed child.
We are here for you ma cherie...
Okay, time to give a proper
The wounded doe wandered through the forest, her white eyes empty, and limping because of a rather ugly wound on her shoulder. Her throat hurt after all the times she had roared out,
roaring for Jack. But she never got any reply. It was first when she heard Asaroth's roaring she had been reminded of Night Shade, and the state her friend was in. And now she had followed
Night's mate to this place, and the scents in the air indicated that Night was here somewhere. Illrose glanced at the other deer that had followed Asaroth here, before she stepped forward,
looking at the cave in the ground. She then roared, just to let Night know she was here, supporting her even though she couldn't see her.
(wow... things happen when
It hit her like a thunderbolt. It froze her to the place she was standing and the chill went down her spine.
First she had absolutely no idea what it was. It was all so sudden. But now, she started to realize, recollect the delicate distinctions of the feelings, which were firstly deafen by the power of the hit.
A mind in dreamland. And she knew whose mind it was. She has tried so many times to encrypt the depth of dreams of this subtle doe, that she can recognize her anytime.
But so strong? It never used to be. Something is happening. She always wanted to be there, where something is happening. This might be her chance.
She opened all her senses: eyes searching in far, ears twitching to all directions, nose capturing all the forest scents... But what gave her the most was her feeling. A strong dream. Lifetime dream. A dream that called... her?
Joyful bounce
"Rest."
Innocent giggle
"Sleep."
Grinning smile
"Dream!"
Sparks in eyes
"And I will find you..."
Silent whisper...
Foxbrow is on the hunt.
Night Shade twitched in her
She groaned and rolled fitfully, until a painful kick from within pulled her from her restless slumber.
She winced and raised her head turning to gaze at her side in the darkness.
Gently she dipped her muzzle, burying it deep into the soft fur of her swollen belly.
The doe sighed softly and very carefully rested her face against her side, moving her head up and down, nuzzling her unborn as if to quiet it.
Her gaze drifted back to the opening of the cave. She could tell that the rain had stopped, however the sky still had the look of a dreary winter’s day.
The sky was grey and overcast, shedding very little light in. Another draft came in and she shivered, wondering how cold it must be outside of her hiding place.
”At least I’m dry.
She thought to herself. It was the only positive thing she could think of in the sea of negatives that plagued her mind. Loud noises were coming from the outside and quickly her head shot up, ears turning in all directions and spine stiff with fear.
From her underground hideaway it was hard to distinguish sounds and what made them.
All the doe knew is it was loud, dangerous in tone and that there was more than one. She pressed back into the cave until her back was against a wall. She could go no further.
The doe crouched down, trying to make herself as small as possible, not daring to move, breath or even blink. Her heart hammered in her chest, as a shadow passed over the opening. Something was watching her.
She could feel it..but what?
”This is it.”
She thought bitterly
“I thought this fawn would be the thing to kill me..now it seems some beasts have found me out, and will take my life instead..Is a more fitting end for me I suppose…. To die in some fight.”
She had no idea that the sounds came from those she knew.

Asaroth stood quietly,
"Night... get out of that bloody hole before I have to pull you out."
The large stag watched into the darkness. He would make good on his threat if she did not come. He didn't know if she was of sane mind. If she was not he would have to pull her out, kicking and screaming if she felt like fighting him.
He braced his legs slightly as he lowered his head, looking into the darkness, growling lowly at her, rumbling with the low sound as he tried to lure her out.
His nostrils flared, breathing in deep breaths. Damp rock and moss, rain, the other deer around him. He snorted loudly, frustrated, pushing his head closer into the cave, taking in a breath. T
There.
He smelt her that time, the sweet scent of his mate. He rumbled again with a purr, wanting her to come out again.
The light was suddenly
She backed up until she was sitting up like a dog, trying to avoid the large muzzle that was so close to her now.
Her fur ruffled with each sniff it took.
Doomed she was doomed. It was only a matter of time before it dragged her out and tore her to pieces.
The growling it made didn’t help.
On any given day she would have recognized her “attacker.” as her mate, but fear and anger had made her irrational.
She also had failed to hear his voice in her retreat.
“You fat lazy beast!! You can’t find something harder to pick off eh?”
She yelled biting down on the large muzzle. If the thing wanted a meal it would have one, but it would feel her anger first.
Asaroth's head flung back and
"Bloody Hell! Night Shade you will pay for that!" he growled into the tunnel again, lips pulling back over his sharp fangs. He lowered a little more, pressing his head forward and into the tunnel.
He snarled once more, furious with her for biting him as darkness began invading his white markings. He had to keep his demon under control... but she pushed his buttons. Badly.
He managed to angle himself, biting down onto the fleshy skin at the back of her neck, beginning to drag her back and out of the tunnel, growling pleased with himself
Illrose would usually never
She ran forward, and came to an abrupt halt right next to the hole in the ground.
"Get away from her, you bloody idiot!" She roared at Asaroth, before she lowered her head and bit down at his back, to get him to retreat.
Standing, Ma Mousse moved
Low, meaning for her voice to carry to the angry deer, she spoke to them, trying to bring them back to reason.
Can you two not see that you are frightening the poor thing! She came here to be safe from the world, and what does she get? Her mate dragging her from safety and growling at her like some kind of monster!
Roughly, she shoved her way past the stag and managed to wedge her body around the hole, blocking it from his access with her body. She stared up into his eyes, daring him to try and approach again.
I know you are a demon, stag, but your mate in in fear and pain. Intimidating her will NOT work.
The beast's head flung back
Stumbling back away from them as the moose pushed her way between them, being pushed back by the two does who took their places before the tunnel.
His eyes flashed between them, standing between himself and his mate, long sharp fangs bared as he snarled furiously at them. White fur stained black, ancient markings flickering to life down over his legs.
The blood red eyes of the demon looked between them, striking out at the ground, tearing up plant and soil alike in his anger.
"You are fools! She and the fawn will die if she remains hidden away in there!" the low grating voice emmenated from him, though his mouth did not move with the sound, snapping his jaws together in his fury.
He bare his fangs again, snarling angrily as he stalked toward the two deer, intent on killing any who tried to stop him from getting to his mate.
A look best described as “Oh
She winced as the fangs snapped down on her flesh, but she didn’t dare struggle. To struggle in that razor sharp grip would result in an injury that she really didn’t need to add to her list of issues at the moment.
How many times in the last days had she made him _that_ angry she didn’t know. She had lost count.
“I’m sorry I didn’t..Damn it!! I’m not some stupid rabbit do not treat me as such”
She spat as he drug her out of hiding.
She saw Illrose run up and bite Asaroth,a bad move no doubt.
She didn’t need this drama now. He really had not hurt her by any means, but to the outside world looking in.
She could see how it might look that way.
She fell back into the hole with a yelp as Asaroth released her, and saw once again that the light had been blacked out ,but this time by another figure.
She wondered how many were out there..
Illrose let go of Asaroth as
her friend to know she was there, that she wasn't alone in this. She looked at Asaroth, her ears flat to her neck when he bared his fangs at her and the other doe. She
lowered her antlers at the stag, even though she really wasn't sure her body could handle another fight so soon, before her wounds got to heal.
"Perhaps, if you stop yelling at her, she'll come out by herself." She snarled at him.
The big moose calmly looked
She knew that he could not get into the hole with her there, but she had to stop this, for all of their sakes. She stood, and calmly moved between the two deer, making herself a living barrier to their fighting.
Stop it, both of you. This is foolishness. You, demon, you are upset, but you do not give your mate enough credit. She is smart, and if you would stop shouting at her, she would realize that her friends are outside, waiting to protect her, and would not feel the need to hide. You, doe, I know you are only protecting your friend, but think of the distress she would feel if she knew you were being injured for nothing. That kind of stress on her body could put both her and the little one at risk!
Turning her back on both of them, she lowered her head to the hole, calling down softly.
Dearheart? Your time is here ma chere. We cannot help you if you are hiding. Won't you please come out?
The demon continued snarling
Part of his logic told him not to attack the does, they were her friends. But his logic was not working to well. He wanted to attack, spill their blood. He didn't approach though, waiting to see what would happen.
If Night Shade should happen to begin coming from the hole he would not want to frighten her more than he probably already had. His logical brain knew he was the monster here that would be the one to scare her when she was in her instinctual state.
"My mate is strong. But not even she can withstand birthing in a god forsaken hole in the ground!" He snarled angrily and lowered his head, tearing into the earth with his tines, leaving deep grooves as he tried to keep a shred of control on his anger.
He turned his blood red eyes on them again, snarling as he continued his slow approach, shaking his head to rid the tines of the putrid dirt.
If anything she made the
She wasn’t completely sure what had happened and why.
The tension in the air was thick enough to cut with a knife. Carefully she crawled out of the hole and sat on the ground in front of the entrance, glancing curiously at all those around her.
She was just happy to be found, though she wished the others would have controlled themselves better.
Now it was her turn to be angry.
She didn’t feel well and all the foolishness was getting on her nerves.
“Everyone stop it! Stop telling me what I should do. Stop telling me how to feel. ONLY I KNOW HOW I FEEL. I’m not some side show act here. I’m in labor MY GOD!” She snorted tail flicking from side to side
The big cow backed from the
The little doe was right of course. The moose had pushed her role too far, and was sorry for it, guilt all over her expressive face as she internally berated her self for presuming to know the doe's condition.
At the same time, she was shocked at the doe's strength to not only surface, but to surface with all that anger, particularly given how much weight she had lost.
The cow could only sit, staring at the little doe, and feeling old, until she told them what she needed.
Illrose took a few steps
Illrose had no idea who she was, but apparently she was someone Night had met before. The moose at least acted that way. She hadn't noticed Night coming out of he hole before she heard the little
doe's voice. Illrose turned to face her, with a worried smile on her lips.
"I'm sorry Night, we shall all calm down now." She said, with a side glance at Asaroth. She then looked back at Night.
"How are you feeling?" Illrose could still remember the pain from when she had given birth herself, so she could guess Night didn't feel very good. And what worse was, she had lost extremely much weight
during the pregnancy.
Asaroth watched them quietly,
He kept his distance, back turned at the does but he kept his ears toward them, grinding his teeth in frustration. He snorted again, lowering his head a tiny bit to the wet grass, blowing out over it to try to calm himself more.
He glanced their way once before he looked back ahead, he couldn't say anything, he didn't know what to say.
Night looked the equivalent
She was a bit ill at how everyone did seem to assume they knew all about her and maybe they did, but in a way, their bickering and anger had settled her..it felt normal.
She felt like herself..well almost.
It was true she was painfully thin. The only thing remotely large on the doe was her stomach. Her hip bones stuck out and her ribs could have easily been counted.
She sat quietly for awhile, her ears pinned against her head as she gathered herself. So much had happened so fast. She glanced over at Illrose.
”Good to know” She huffed, but quickly calmed her voice into a nicer tone.”I’m tired” She said simply, though there was more to it than that, but she guessed it would not be hard for Illrose to fill in the blanks.
“It was good of you to come.”
She turned her gaze over to Ma Mousse. She could tell the moose was troubled by what had happened, but Night knew she had meant well enough, giving the situation.
”It’s ok Mama. You were only trying to protect me, you and Illrose, but it wasn’t what it looked like. He would never hurt me.”
She looked ahead at her mate. She felt sorry for him. He couldn’t help his nature, perhaps that is why they completed each other. They had many of the same flaws.
She wanted to call him back, but thought it best that he was given more time to calm himself. He would come back when he felt he was able.
In the mean time she would explain to her company what was going on with her, to give them a better understanding and stop all the assumptions. She explained as simply as she could.
”It is soon enough, but there is still some time yet. I am only in the early stages for now. Trust me.” She laughed lightly ”I would not be sitting here so quietly, if it was coming now.”

as she sat down in the grass, not too far away from Night.
"I don't care how long time it is before it's coming, I'm not leaving you again now." She wouldn't risk Night getting another impulse that told her to run and hide.
The moose settled herself
Is there anything you need, amour? We don't mind searching for bedding or food for you if that is what you require.
She turned to the other doe that was nearby, Night Shade's friend, and tried to make up for her previous anger.
I am sorry about earlier mon chere, I was merely worried about the petite Night Shade, and was worried for her health. Forgive me if my emotions got in the way of rationality.
She nodded her head slightly to the other doe.
I am Ma Mousse, but please, call me Mama. It seems as though Night Shade is lucky to have a friend to protect her so.
HEY no food in here unless i
”No I’m fine for now. I would
Night yawned loudly as Illrose and Ma Mousse spoke to each other.
It was fine; she was not up for much conversation anyway.
She thought it was best that they got to know each other better, since they would be there for an undetermined amount of time.
She had already accepted the fact that none would leave. It was unusual for there to be company so near for this event.
The first time she had been perfectly alone.
As unusual as the situation was for the doe she welcomed it now. She really had not much of a choice.
She sprawled out on the earth, resting her head between her front legs with a sigh.
Her ears perked as she heard the sound of small hoof beats in the distance, but she was well protected and it didn’t seem dangerous.
Of course, she should have
at the moose, and the other's words made a faint smile appear on her lips.
"No, I'm sorry, you handled the situation just as you should. I'm glad you were here, or me and Asaroth would probably have made things worse." She sighed for a moment,
before nodding her head.
"I'm Illrose. And you seem to be a friend of her as well." She tilted her head, pretty sure she had never seen this doe before. Illrose looked back at Night for a moment.
"You just rest, we'll stay here." She assured her.
It was quiet again. Strange,
Just as Foxbrow looked over the top of a small hill, she found out she stares right at the side of a large mighty stag. She immediately crouched in the tall grass and moved no more, only her ears twitching and green eyes watching the scene.
'Night Shade's mate... No, no. That's not just coincidence.' She was happy she finally found this place, yet she was disappointed that this clumsy hulk was here too. There were also other creatures, chatting.
'But where is she?'
The cow inclined her head
Although I am new to this forest, I found this little one and she needed help. I have never been one to let a mother go through labours without offering aid, and we seem to have grown on each other.
She smiled, relaxing now that there was no immediate danger. Out of habit, she arranged and rearranged the grasses around Night Shade, trying to push them into a more comfortable position. The little doe now knew that they were all there willing to help her, and when she was ready, she would tell them. There was no point in fretting until that time.
From the corner of her eye, she also watched the big stag. He had not yet returned from his sulk, although she knew he could hear what was going on. She hoped he would return before the birth began though, she felt bad for getting angry at him, although his method of helping had been more trouble for the situation than she felt was necessary.
His head lifted, good eye
Slowly he began moving, placing himself firmly between the deer he could smell hidden amonst the wet grass, protecting his mate. He glanced back at the girls before he looked back ahead, body trembling with a growl as he watched the grass move.
((Sorry had class))
Night lifted her head from
She was becoming unsettled.
It was possible that it could have been nothing more than a rabbit he was stalking, but she was starting to feel flighty again.
She briefly considered crawling back into the hole, but she knew it was no good to do so. They would only coax her out again.
She attempted to stand, collapsing in her effort and let out an alerted snort in his direction.
Asaroth's ears flicked back,
If there was something coming that was going to harm her he wanted to be there and stop it. He slowed beside her, eying the two does untrustingly before he looked to his mate, sniffing over her quietly.
As the little doe attempted
Her mate had his hackles up, though the cow couldn't see at what. She snorted, trying to catch the scent of what was there, but time had dulled her senses, and she couldn't tell what the stag was upset about.
Quietly she spoke to the doe, without turning her head.
Dear, if you can get your back to your den, it might give a bit of protection. Do not worry though, we'll fend anything from you before it even has a chance of getting near.
When her mate approached, the cow stepped forward, so she was between the pair and what had disturbed the stag.
Night shifted uncomfortably
She was hurting.
“I can’t..”
She wanted to get up, she wanted to pace, anything to take her mind off her discomfort, but she was too weak to move.
Frustrated she started ripping up blades of grass and throwing them around, in nothing short of a temper tantrum.
”I want to go back NOW. I want my nest.”
Asaroth glanced slowly toward
"I can carry you there.. if you would let me do so." he slowly snuffled over her, gently licking the top of her head before he looked around slowly, thoughtful.
He wouldn't try to move her if that was not something that she would be comfortable with, especially being in labour
