Love underwhelms

Reboot image for my revived character Kusakage (: Played with some default photoshop brushes for this. Might have over done it on the gold but I needed it so I could see what I was doing :'D SO DARK.

Edit: Thanks for all your answers to my question, it really did help ^^

This is gorgeous really. It gives off/There's a warm feel to it. I, myself wouldn't pay anything less than $25 for a commission like that if you're going to go with transparent backgrounds.

I was going to say around the same price. Anywhere from $20-$30. It really is gorgeous. I love the golds you used.

If you're planning on

If you're planning on character images only (no backgrounds) I'd recommend making the images have transparent backgrounds to capitalize on the demand for biography images! As for prices, despite not buying art myself I'd say anything between $30-$40, the 40 being if the design was a patterned pelt with more detailing than the example you've shown.

agreeing with the above

agreeing with the above statements. anywhere between $25 and $40, depending on complexity of pelt designs and all that jazz. ;u;

If I saw that for sale, I

If I saw that for sale, I would probably guess that the price would be around $25-$30 bucks but I'm bad at guessing.

I think the most fair formula for commissions if you're trying to think what to charge is something along these lines and it's what I take into account whenever I buy art and look at prices:

Cost=(Living Wage x time)+cost of materials+experience and training

Where

Living Wage = a healthy hourly pay of your choosing. This is the value of your time, and time is important. I'd say that you shouldn't even THINK about dipping under $10USD an hour. Gotta pay that rent.

Cost of materials = Some money to pay for the art program you use, for your tablet, for the upkeep of your stylus and nibs and stuff. If you're a student or have student loans related to art charge a little extra. The idea would be that over a number of commissions this figure pays off all of your materials.

Experience and training = There's that old thing where people ask "how long did it take you to paint this?" and the canned artist response is, "my whole life." Generally, the longer you've been doing artstuffs seriously the more money it's reasonable for one to charge. Likewise, people who went to school specifically for art can usually charge more.

All rules have exceptions of course. Whatever you do, don't undercharge people!

I agree with the above

I agree with the above statements; I'd easily pay 30$ for a commission of this caliber.

But with that said, don't sell yourself short. I noticed many people being inclined to go the "minimum wage" route or something along those lines (not sure what the actual term for it is called though), where they charge by the hour. So your art is worth, at the very least, minimum wage per hour you are painting if you chose to go that route than a flat rate. <3

Awh, thanks Red! When I don't need to do commissions in a couple of months, I'll remember to ask you for a trade (:

For anyone interested, I use Photoshop CS5 and specifically this brush for things like the cheekfuzz and general hair strokes
