The sky was clear aside from a few small, wispy white clouds drifting lazily along. Sunlight filtered through the curtains, shining through them onto a golden-blanketed bed, lying upon which was a golden-haired man with tanned skin. He wore only a pair of faded blue jeans and white sneakers; no shirt. Sky-blue eyes stared at the ceiling, gaze never drifting.
Rutilus' mind strayed...

The day was warm. The long grass of the field shone gold in the sun's rays. A young girl, who could not have been older than around 10, sat alone, hidden in the golden grass.
"Taliene!" A boy ran across the grass, his expression joyful. "Hey, Taliene!"
"Brother!" The small girl stood up, dropping the grass she'd been playing with, to smile brightly over at the golden-haired boy. "Where's mommy?"
"Mum's visitin' a friend," Rutilus replied, stooping slightly to pick his sister up and twirl her around, making her laugh in delight and hug his neck. "You had me worried, I'm meant to be lookin' after you!"
"Sorry, Ruttii," Taliene giggled as Rutilus set her down on the ground, then wrapped her small hand around his. "Guess what?"
"What?"
"I have something to show you!" With that, she began to run across the field happily, dragging her brother with her. "You'll love it, Brother!" He did not reply, but followed uncertainly, wondering what she was about to show him.
The two leapt over the wooden fence to exit the field, running into the woods, before Taliene suddenly stopped. She stepped over a log, as did Rutilus. Before them was a river, the ground leading to it covered entirely in stones and rocks. The river was crystal-clear, and small fish could be seen swimming downstream. It was a rather wide river; it could not be leapt over. Although it was under waist-deep, the current was strong, making it difficult to swim or wade across without being swept away and crashing into the huge rocks dotted here and there in the river. To the left of them, there was a cliff; well, a hill really, but the edge was very much like a cliff-face.
It was beautiful.
Rutilus laughed; this was Taliene's sort of thing, not his.
He didn't know how special this place would seem in the future.

Rutilus was forced back to the present due to the vibrating of his orange cellphone. He sighed and picked it up tiredly.
Hey, Rutilus
Martisol.
He tapped the buttons, smiling slightly. hi marti. Sent.
I can't come to the dance, I'm sorry.
He stared at the screen in disbelief. Great. Just great.Tossing his cellphone onto the bedside cabinet after deciding not to reply, he managed to stand up and trudge through to his small livingroom, collapsing onto the sofa and automatically reaching for a bottle of alcahol.
Then he stopped, leaning back with a sigh, closing his eyes.

He was walking quickly down a moonlit street, golden-brown leaves littering the ground, fluttering around in the breeze. His eyes were wet, but the tears refused to fall. Anger was clear on the teenager's face as he stormed onwards, heading towards the nearby woods, carrying a small rucksack.
As he climbed over the wooden fence to enter the field, the first tear streaked down his tanned face. A choked sob escaped Rutilus as he ran further into the grass, dropping his rucksack and eventually skidding down onto his knees, head bowed. Slowly, he curled into a ball, trying to calm down. He could not remember the last time he'd cried. He was supposed to be strong. Always had been, for Taliene...For his mother.
"That BASTARD!" Rutilus screamed furiously, sitting up, eyes colder than ice. How dare he try and take their mother away! Their true father had already left, long ago, and now their mother had found herself someone else.
Someone that heavily disliked the golden-haired teen.
This was all his fault!
"Brother...?" A female voice came from nearby, and Rutilus looked up in shock. Half-hidden behind a tree, there stood a young girl with long, light brown hair. Her almond-shaped eyes were wide, and she looked at her brother as though he was about to murder her.
"What?" Rutilus snapped, more harshly than he'd intended. Taliene looked stricken.
"Mommy is worried..."
"Good."
"Rutilus!" Taliene hurried over, kneeling infront of him, a sad look on her face. "You shouldn't say that!"
"Why not, Tali?" The boy growled. "She's the one letting him stay!"
"B-but..." She looked as though she was about to cry. "Sh-she l-loves him, Brother..."
"I don't give a damn." His shoulders were shaking, but he held the tears back; the last thing he wanted to do was break down infront of her.
Taliene stood up, turned away, and fled from her furious brother.
He heard her sobbing fade away as she ran.

It was a knock on the door that pulled Rutilus away from his own memory this time. With a frustrated sigh, he walked to the door and opened it angrily.
"What?" He snapped, before staring at the woman in surprise as she walked inside, closing the door behind her.
"I..." She faltered, blinking at the blonde with confused hazel eyes. "I was worried..."

Rutilus pulled Taliene into his arms and held her there, a single tear dropping into her light brown hair.
