Zylix stretched after moving away from the forest for a good 6 months. Whatever had happened before, she had no idea about. What new fawns had been born, she would meet. Those little spotted ones always looked for the interesting deer. And the new one; occasionally, the one that was always alone, which happened to be her.
She trotted towards the scent of sweet, sparkling water, koi fish, and frogs; The Lake. Occasionally, she would hide in the Reeds and, shrouding away from any unwanted attention, watch the Fawns play in the shallows. She remembered, the month before she left, she would do that. As a fawn, she would play with her friends and splash water on their faces, which earned a splash right back.
But today, instead of the gentle splashes of young hooves and the giggling of innocent fawns, there was a silence. A long, flowing silence she'd never detected before; Perhaps, as a young doe, she'd never noticed. But today it was ever-prominent.
She trotted to the lakeside and laid down, folding her stilty legs like a lawnchair. She watched the ripples in the water flow by, smiling at her own reflection, admiring the poppies in her antlers.
The soft bellow of a playful fawn made Zylix' head jerk up by instinct; When she did, her ears twitched and flickered like Satellite dishes in response to what she saw; Various other deer, fawns and adults alike, were sleeping, both in the shallows and under the Willow Tree, and even in the sun where their wet fur could dry while they slept in the bright beams of sun that never seemed to cease.
She glanced around and found they were all either snoozing in the sunlight or gazing out on the glistening water, eyes half-closed in contentment, the soft breeze brushing their fur down to a slickness.
Zylix, feeling very lazy all of a sudden, rested her head on a log and fell into a gentle snooze, dreaming of her Fawnhood friends and her omnipresent love for this Forest.
