Here we are! chapter one of my story!
Lady Jewel perched on the top of a giant magical mottled-brown mushroom left over from a recent abiogenesis. She gazed silently at crimson poppy that floated in midair as her hands revolved slowly around the treasured flower. Questions buzzed through her mind like millions of newly molted dragonflies hungering for sustenance: How did I change from a deer to a humanoid fairy? What magic spell was responsible? Will I ever return to my deer form? Who is responsible? When did I change? Why did this happen? Has anybody even noticed?
Lady was once a beautiful peacock doe with red, blue, and green wings, a long flowing tail, gold jewelry, and a red jewel on her forehead (hence her name). She was well known for her playful ways, polite manners, and her absolute love of everyone and everything. The tale of her birth is well known throughout the forest, and touches even the darkest coldest hearts. She was still just as striking as before, but her new body just felt so... odd. Her entire appearance changed: her joint structure, her face, even her wings were different. Her wings were replaced with leaf-like fairy wings with a peacock eye on each one. She still retained her red plume, red locks, facial markings, red forehead jewel, and her peacock feather mane as well as her gold jewelry and skin coloration.
Lady sighed and let the poppy fall to the ground as a slight breeze played with her red and gold embellished blue kimono. Her quest for answers was going nowhere. She daintily slid off the giant mushroom right before it disappeared. Everybody knew Abiogenesis magic never lasted long. Her head hurt from hours of racking her brain for an answer, and she was no closer then when she started.
As Lady scanned the surrounding area, she noticed all kinds of familiar faces. As usual, there was the big white elk Toukan rubbing his large antlers on an enormous sycamore tree, paying no mind to the fairy as he went about his business. Lady noticed tiny Herla dancing about her big human faced mate Gehirn.
“There goes the first deer I’ve ever seen turn human,” Lady mused to herself, “but she only turned human for a short time. Why can’t I turn back?”
It had been 48 hours since Lady’s transformation, but Herla’s transformation was much shorter. It made no sense to Lady. Herla had been a human in the past, so that was explainable, but Lady was born a fawn. She sighed again, making her way to the big crater surrounded by sycamores in the middle of the birch wood to eat some blueberries. Due to her transformation she didn’t need to food, but it still felt good to have sustenance every so often. She found it strange that nobody seemed to notice her new appearance. Her communication never changed, she still talked like a deer and used similar body language. She laid down in the center of a patch of blueberry bushes and picked one plump juicy blueberry after another, losing herself in the heavenly sweet taste of.....
“LADY!”
A sharp irritated voice jerked her out of her stupor.
“Do you know how long I have been looking for you? Miguel’s been worried sick and Ryu’s been pacing so much he’s worn a hole in the ground! You need to come back to the herd.”
Lady looked up to see her uncle Tulio’s skull face upside down in her line of vision. Lady was born of magic, so she didn’t have any family. She considered her current herd family even if she had no connection to anybody there. She rolled into a sitting position and paused.
“NOW!” Tulio barked, causing Lady to flinch.
“I’m coming Uncle Tul,” Lady replied with a yawn.
All that thinking wore her out, and she couldn’t bring herself to protest. Lady was sure Juniper told everybody that she had wandering tendencies, and preferred to be alone for long periods of time, but she didn’t bring any of that up.
Tulio’s demeanor was different today, he was more edgy. Lady barely noticed though, she was too exhausted. The sky was dark by the time they reached the herd. Lady curled up on a soft bed of moss and fell asleep immediately.
Juniper and Ru held a meeting with the other herd members.
“I know what you are all wondering about,” announced the Juniper, “Lady Jewel’s transformation from deer to human-like fairy.”
Murmurs traveled through the small group.
“Through my many years I have only seen magic like this once before,” the ageless kirin continued, “a similar event took place with another being, that time it was a human. This happened long ago, when the mysterious ruin was still a standing building. This land was always ruled by deer, but there was one human: Natalee Fey. All her life she lived in harmony with nature, living beside our kind, making sure the balance of our world was kept in check. She built the mysterious building using only magic. For all her hard work, the twin gods rewarded her by giving her the ability to communicate with all the animal species that dwell here.
“But not all ears are friendly. A man practicing the dark arts beyond the edge of the forest caught wind of Natalee’s abilities, and wanted to make her power his own. The only way he could accomplish that was if he had her hand in marriage. He was handsome, but Natalee saw right through his charm and denied him. He didn’t give the poor girl a choice, and locked her in a cage in her own temple. He kept her there, using his own dark powers to drain her pure magic. The pain rippled through every living thing in this sacred forest.
“Every rescue attempt ended in tragedy when the evil man conjured wolves to intercept the party. It was impossible to defeat magic with brute force, so we had to fight his magic with our own. We held an abiogenesis that night, calling upon the endless power of the twin gods themselves to aid in our efforts. All the pleas and prayers were answered when the statues of the twin gods came to life. Instead of floating around together as we all see them do during a traditional Abiogenesis, the statues separated and flew directly to the temple where they landed on either side. The statues glowed and deep chanting voices emanated from them, canceling out the wicked dark magic. The healing light magic from the statues reached Natalee, and transformed her into a golden fairy deer with the power to destroy the wicked man. With one wing beat she was free of her cage. The man was powerless against Natalee as she sent him to the underworld...”
“F-forever r-right?” Miguel stammered.
“Pah!” Juniper scoffed mockingly, “Nothing is forever! The day Lady Jewel was born was the day he tried to exact his revenge on all of us. Natalee was the one he was chasing with his demon followers when she escaped his wrath and ended up in the drinkplatts.”
Whispers of astonishment rippled through the herd as they realized the truth: The legendary Natalee was in fact Lady Jewel’s mother.
“Settle everybody,” Ryu announced, but the murmurs kept going, “QUIET!”
The murmurs stopped.
“Thanks Ryu,” Juniper returned to the subject at hand, “You may also be wondering how and why Lady transformed in the first place. I can tell you it had to do with the abiogenesis two days ago. The twin gods considered her ready to inherit her mother’s legacy. It has been 3 years to the day since Natalee gave her life to make her daughter’s possible, and to ensure that we never have to endure the likes of those demons ever again.”
“Who’s going to break the news to her?” Willow asked.
“I will,” Juniper promptly responded, “I practically raised the kid, and taught her everything she knows. Meeting adjourned.”
Juniper curled up beside it’s adopted daughter as it always had since Lady was mere fawn. The ancient, genderless kirin didn’t normally like young kids, but Lady found a way to the half-dragon half-deer’s heart.
The kirin closed it’s red eyes and drifted off to sleep, recalling back to when Lady was just a baby.

“I’ve never been outside the forest before! It’s so beautiful and big!”
The small peacock fawn bounded through the tall golden grass that almost enveloped her.
“Well, it’s the best place to see stars kid. I always come out here at night to be alone with my memories.”
Juniper couldn’t help but be amused by the tiny blue head popping up from the sea of golden grass.
“Memories?”
“Nothing that concerns you kid.”
Juniper stopped to lay down. Lady opened her mouth to ask about her caretaker’s memories, but politely reconsidered and lay down beside the kirin.
“What are ‘stars’?”
“Tiny light’s in the sky.”
“Isn’t that where the twin gods live?”
“Yes.”
“There are so many stars, isn’t it crowded for them?”
“I don’t know...”
“Why can’t we watch the stars in the forest?”
“Because there are to many branches blocking their light.”
Lady Jewel yawned.
“Good night momma.”
The baby fawn fell into a deep sleep curled up beside her guardian.
“I’m not your... oh never mind, night kid.”
Ah that was cute, Lady Jewel
Thanks for including Herla, though she was never transformed into a human, not really, only took on a human form in a dreamwalk, but I see where that could be confusing! Either way that’s fine! It was a good story.
