Hello just wanted to say a big great thank you to all who kept me company today and to developers...
I had some previous experience with gaming - one I didn't enjoy much.
Most of my life I was a bookworm, then I've met some friends who were into gaming - and since it was the thing to do if you wanted to have something to talk with them about I've played a bit, more of an chore than a pleasure. Most of my life I was working hard to achieve some goals. For me life itself was a game where I had to go through the motions, get things done, level up and so on, so on. Right now even my everyday job consist of going through motions that are similar to a game - so neither in this now distant past nor recently was I ever able to quite understood what are the kicks in gaming...
I've read about TEF in a book I've came upon by weird accident named "Death by Video Game" (a rather mischievous title since after all the author writes much more about why games are great and not harmful and even helpful in some cases) and I got intrigued after reading about Forest in one of the chapters, I've thought that it could be a game I could enjoy: a great big forest, lot's of creatures, some water, the magic is going on, but there is no goals to achieve, no rivalry, no need to talk - just movements (I was into mime before my spine gave up on me)... I thought I should give it a try.
So after all I've spend half a day today on it and I've really enjoyed even though I still don't get how all the options work and it took me a while to figure out which button does what and when (do not tell I like to discover and I have all month as a fawn to fawn upon it
)... Got some deers rolling on the floor (bless you) as a side effect I suppose...
Still have some troubles with etiquette though: how do you say hi? Smell the air, bow? How do you say goodbye?
Hi ! Welcome to you here and
Welcome to you here and in the forest .
Glad to hear you enjoy yourself .
To say goodbey just bow and give a nuzzle to your play partner .
There is no real etiquette here only do not keep mooing all the time in someone face and try not to cast a pelt spell on mini deer .
Welcome to The Endless
I think one of the most fun parts about TEF is learning how to communicate. The month as a fawn really helps when learning how to communicate, as other players (and their characters) tend to see fawns as new players (and/or young characters) and more likely to not take anything too seriously.
The universal way in greeting here is a bow. Sometimes followed by the "smell" action. Some deer simply tilt their head and nod. However, bowing is the main way most players greet. The most common way to say goodbye (if logging out) is the sad emote coupled with the bow.
Other than that I'd say enjoy the time in learning what the other actions and behaviors mean in game. And keep in mind that some players communicate slightly different ways than others (you could even say different "dialects").
I hope you enjoy your time here. :3
Edit,
Woo, I'm slow. Flyleaf beat me to it. XD
Eeeee~! \(^,....,X)/ Welcome,
\(^,....,X)/
Welcome, welcome! It's so nice to have you here ^__^
That's so interesting that you came across the forest through a book! I'm glad you decided to poke into TEF even though gaming seems to have never really been of extreme interest to you. So glad you're here, I'm happy that you've had a pleasant first day experience ^^;
Thank you very much for the
Flyleaf: worked as a librarian for quite a while before and was deep into mime so mooing is definitely out of the question I don't talk loud even in real life - force of habit ...
Why not pelting the young ones? Is it offensive? I would think accidentally turning someone into a squirrel would be far worse abuse but it was taken as a joke I think...
Gustiro: I wonder if it has something to do with ethnicity in some cultures a nod and a shake of the head are reversed as "yes" and "no" and such... Could be interesting to implement an sociologist in here ... Thank you for the tips .
Sannosuke: Thanks for the warm welcome I was actually greatly interested in gaming - fault of the character: it bothers me when I cannot understand something, and this is also how I came upon this book I was just trying all the different kinds of research to get to understand what it is all about ... Maybe I'll figure it out here it seems way more fun than the regular games I was introduced...

No , i mean not the fawns . I
I meanadults who are tinier then average through a mini spell cast on them .
Hello! So glad to hear you've
Here's the difference between mini deer and fawn! Mini deer are just fawn sized adult deer, and people usually try not to spell them with pelts because there's a bug in the game, and the mini deer need to go through a big ordeal to get rid of the wrong pelt. Accidents happen, though!
A mini spell? Didn't even
Edit:
Thank you Ratt for beeing nice enough to a complete newbie to use a most definitive answer about how to recognize them - I was actually pondering how to ask that ...

There's also mini fawns,
In the beginning mini deer weren't supposed to wear pelts, so despite now being able to 'cheat' them on, they still lack the ability to sneeze them off like normal deer. They need to do extra work to gain back the earlier pelt so it's seen as good manners to avoid pelt spelling the mini deer. Masks and antlers are alright, they're easy to get rid of if needed!
I see thank You so very much
