“Life is a journey to find yourself.” –Chrono Cross
I actually thought up this quote myself (had to look it up to see if it had been done before), but this is quite true.
I've always tried to figure out what kind of trait I had. My oldest brother I always saw as a strong person, and my middle brother is very smart. I always wondered what I was, and I think I know a little more about myself now.
I believe my trait is courage. I'm very adventurous, and I love to try new things. I'm very fond of talking to people from other countries and cultures to learn something new, and I love (and often yearn) to travel. I also am brave enough to face some of my fears and overcome them. For example, I used to be terrified of needles, but I tried donating blood, and now I'm a regular donor. I've donated over two gallons of my blood, and needles don't scare me anymore.
Yesterday I actually ate two slices of supreme pizza. I've never eaten supreme before without taking the olives and bell peppers off. I can't believe I've been missing out. I used to hate eating some vegetables, and now I'm getting used to them!
I've also started to explore some of my heritage. I've started to try more Mediterranean kinds of food, since we recently found out my dad's side of the family came from Sicily. I've recently fallen in love with pesto! I made penne pasta with pesto as a side dish and it was absolutely wonderful! I later had pesto on a panini with pastrami and pepperoni...probably one of the best sandwiches I've ever had in my LIFE! Maybe later I'll explore more of my German and Irish sides, but for now, I'm all about Italy, and anything Mediterranean!
I think my bravery has even been shown for my love of music. I've been finding myself buying new CDs almost every week, listening to all kinds of music from just about every kind of Rock there is to Country and Soul. While I don't have the ear for every band and artist, I've become a fan of such bands as Big & Rich, Sonata Arctica, Bon Jovi, and even David Cook!
Even my love of animals seems to dip into the trait of courage. I love animals with horns and antlers, such as deer, goats, rams, pronghorn antelope, buffalo, and steer. People from my culture look down at this as they believe these animals are supposed to be hunted and killed, rather than observed and loved. I also am not a big fan of 'mainstream' animals like wolves, tigers, bears, monkeys, and so on (I like horses, though). Not saying that I hate them, but I feel they seem to be too popular of animals for me.
So despite that I'm not the strongest person, or the smartest, I believe in my family I am the most courageous. Maybe you, too, can think about what traits you have, and even learn things about yourself that you didn't know before.
If you'd like to share your thoughts, or if you have any questions for me, please feel free to comment. Thanks for reading - even writing this down has made me feel so much more confident in myself.
This is wonderful Quad! I
I have found a few of my own traits match with yours while reading this. I too love people from different cultures. I live in a town that dosen't have many people different than us (aka white and Christian) sigh! And even though one of our summer interns was from Kentucky, I freaked entirely out and wanted to learn everything about it-- she thought I was nuts but that's the usual...
My Godmother has been over-seas to India and places like Sri Lanka, and taught English there. I want to be just like her, although I'm still too young to travel in my parent's eyes.
It's really hard to deal with protective parents when you want to be couragious, and see different places-- that you CAN'T dive to. They're terrified of plains and after 9/11, it was out of the question...
I've always been facinated with my geneology, and who my ancestors were. As a little girl, my grandmother traced our heritage back all the way to the middle ages, Germany, and I would always have my face in that book for hours on end, reading about how many awesome people made me.
I agree with not wanting to share the love for animals that have SO much popularity and recognition already. Maybe love isn't the right word, because I really do love all animals, but somehow-- they don't feel like they're mine in a way. Like Harry Potter, and Twilight. I didn't want to read them because SO many poeple enjoyed them so much. Unless I discovered something before everyone else, that became a craze... but I'd rather find a huge intrest in something that isn't shown a lot of love-- and horned animals are deffinatly up for grabs! I love them too..
My family came from a lot of Scottish heritage, and I have found I would like to eat what they ate (with the exeption of haggus... BLEH!), we have a bag of Scottish oatmeal in the cubboard and I eat it like anything... not because I enjoy it a lot, but to think my ancestors would've eaten it-- it makes me like the taste of it... I already dress Scottish on occasion....
Maybe I should try German food.
Or Swedish. Because my great grandmother was all Swedish.... Hmmm....
You're lucky to have some (Italian?) blood in you, you guys have some awesome food!!
I've pretty much already discovered a lot of myself already... and my life is going to be a lot easier because of it. I really hope as I travel I'll learn more about myself and what I like...
Thanks for making this post!!

That's a very interesting
Italian food is delicious! I have some Italian blood too, even if it's only for 6,25 percent. I thought those were the eyes, which are big and a darker brown, but since it's from my grandma's side (and her eyes aren't that brown) I think those are just Dutch. Or anything else, I don't know much about my grandfather, since he died 12 years before I was born.
About the animals, well I love almost every animal. Instead the ones I'm terrified of, but that seems kinda obvious. I can't say I love spiders, because I would be a hypocrite!
I like wolves a lot, even before I knew they were popular (so before I joined the internetz). They just have something charming and sometimes... even something human. Like the rules in their pack, they're more like us than we ought to think. My favorite animal is a Killer Whale, or Orca. I've always loved animals that live in the sea. I like deer too and a lot of fluffy creatures, but also snakes!
Oh god, I'm turning this into a rant again. Sorry!
Ah well, got plenty of time to find myself. I'm only 17!

I must say that you know a
for me when it comes to food, i find it a waist of time. I do not enjoy eating at all. its not that I avoid food at all costs I eat regularly. but i find that i just try to get it over with and forget what it tastes like. BUT I would like to eat more Irish food. since I have a tun of Irish ancestrege in me.
back on DA my fursona is a wolf spirit. Jadine wolf spirit link Now I want to change it because i too am sick of wolves and foxes, Dragons and big cats as well. right now all i want to draw are "deer creatures".
I have 4 older brothers. 2 of which would kill me if they were in the same state. Another is in jail for possession, vandalism and drug dealing. and Brandon of witch I actually still have an once of love for. He tortured me sure, but not in a "I hate your guts and my life is your fault" kind of way. To put it simply I didn't want my role models to be a family member. so who did I pick instead? My favorite characters in movies. XD
Even after this I don't know who I am, I want to be different in my own different kind of way. I guess that My trait would be is.
Weird.
Great post! I also think
Years ago, I would have said intelligence is my most predominant trait, but now I'd like to think it is compassion. I have an abiding love and sense of responsibility and stewardship for animals and disadvantaged people, especially children. This works out very well - as anyone I know will tell you - because I am beloved by small children and animals. Like, ridiculously so, as in, they find and follow me whenever I'm about. My neighbors have taken to calling me "the Pied Piper" because they have three kids (3, 7, 11) and two dogs who all adore me and complain when I go out of town. All the neices and nephews and little cousins of my extended family are exactly the same - they can't wait for me to visit!
Also quite interested in my geneaology, which is predominately Irish and Romany. I love to travel and have several trips planned for later this year. I like to consider myself a world traveller and an excellent compainon on an extended vacation.

Mystress - I tend to ask too
I hope to be able to travel later in life, and I would love to see much of Europe, especially Italy, Ireland, and Germany since I know my ancestors came from there. One of the reasons why I'm suddenly so interested in trying new foods is that I know if I traveled to a place like that, I'd need to be open to what they eat. (In Sicily, do what the Sicilians do XD)
My family now knows my weakness - if they get me anything with a deer, goat, or any horned animal, they'll know I'll be happy. My brother is actually a fan of wolves, but like some people he loved them before the internet 'happened' so in his case I don't judge. (He doesn't draw them over and over on deviantArt, for example)
If I hear any cool German or Scottish recipes, I'll be sure to pass them on to you. Here's a recipe for a German Hazelnut Omelet that sounds wonderful, and a Scottish Lentil Soup I'd love to try!
Thanks for the comment
Avani - It's perfectly fine to think you've got a little bit of everything. That means you've got a variety of skills, which is a great thing because people can ask you for anything. Don't worry if you don't know what your trait is - it takes a long time to figure it out (took me 23 years )
For the longest we didn't know we were Italian. Recently we found out that my dad's side came from Sicily, and from then on we've all been a little obsessed with food and recipes from there!
Like I mentioned to Mystress, I respect wolves and even have a brother that loved them before they became popular on the internet, so I completely understand what you mean. Before I was a huge deer/goat fan, I loved (believe it or not) orcas, dolphins, and snakes too!
Thanks for the comment
Jadine - It takes a while to get used to certain foods. At one time I almost never ate vegetables, but I slowly got a taste for them and now I'm willing to try all kinds of stuff.
Ah sorry about your siblings. I've gotten along so well with my brothers that it is tough for me to think about ever being separated from them.
You'll discover more about yourself later in life. We all have something that makes us unique, and never think that being different is a bad thing. That's coming from a pessimist, too!
Thanks for the comment!
Io Rez - LOL I never thought about that DeVry commercial like that. That's hilarious!
I don't know what it is about music - it seems to bring the best out of us! I don't know where I'd be without some of the bands I've listened to. Talking to people about their favorite bands is a great way to get to know them, as well as to learn about some new music. For example, I had never heard of Sonata Arctica until a friend of mine told me about them, and now I've become a fan.
That's great about compassion, I think that's a very fitting trait for you! Maybe you could develop that into something cool like volunteer work. You never know what good things will come your way!
Thanks for the comment XD
