Yeah I've noticed that too, people are going nuts about how it's supposed to be the rapture or something. This is like the first time I've heard of any of this lately though. I mean it'll be exactly like when the millennium came - people will freak out and believe that it's the end of the world, and then when nothing happens they'll go on with their lives.
I wish people would just relax and enjoy life rather than live in this 'gloom and doom' kind of way. I may be a pessimist but at least I try not to worry about things like this.
--------------------------------
Reposting this from my updates page.
This will be a lengthy post about religion, so be warned. I just want to state my opinion on all of this recent 'rapture' panic going on. I know I'm going to sound angry but in reality I just want to state how I feel as someone who has had both Christian and Buddhist influence. I'm not an expert, I'm no prophet. Just someone who has more common sense than to believe something that has popped up so recently.
First off, the dude that predicted the end of the world is a radio host named Harold Camping. He has a BS in Civil Engineering. He's not a priest or a monk, so how can we find this person credible when all he's trying to do is get ratings on his radio show? It's the media, people, and how credible is the media?
Second, and I strongly stand by this, quoting bible verses is not the best way to predict the end of times. Things were different in biblical times, for one. And also, people just love to quote a single verse and then warp it to whatever they want to argue about. You can practically argue anything by taking one quote out of the bible. People who argue stuff and then say, "It says it in the bible!!" are idiots, and I just don't believe any of these words they spew out of their mouths. I think they're wasting their time.
Third, if I'm not mistaken, fortunetelling is supposed to be a sin, as only God is supposed to know the future. But the way I look at it, those who are wiccan or druid who practice fortunetelling are not worshiping God so they're not at fault for doing what they do. It would be like me breaking a rule in a different religion because I just had no idea. Anyway, this Harold Camping dude is a Christian and is predicting the future. That's breaking the first commandment, dude. You're not a prophet.
Fourth, I don't understand why God would make all of us in his image to only take 3% of the population to Heaven. I think that's showing this elitism that people have, this "If you're not part of our church then you're going to Hell!" attitude that many christian churches have been preaching. I don't see God as this vengeful, angry deity that people make him out to be. I see him as much more loving and forgiving.
Lastly, I'll quote from the bible myself:
"But of that day and hour no one knows, neither the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone.
For as it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man.
In (those) days before the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day that Noah entered the ark.
They did not know until the flood came and carried them all away. So will it be (also) at the coming of the Son of Man." - Matthew 24:36-39
This quote is taken from the bible as well. It's from Jesus' own mouth. God is the only one that knows the exact day that the world will end. Even the angels and Jesus himself don't know when the day will come. It'll be a day that noone expects. So trying to predict the end of the world is futile in itself because it's God's decision when to end the world. This is why I'm so against people who point their fingers and tell people whether they're going to Heaven or Hell. It's not their decision where you're going. It's God's and God's alone.
So the point of all of this is simply this - relax! Enjoy life as best as you can, be happy. I think that would really be what God would want, not all this drama.
“the Rapture will take place on May 21, 2011 at 6 p.m. local time (the rapture will sweep the globe time zone by time zone”
Wow, how convenient that it will happen individually at everybody’s various time zones, so if you’re really eager, you can go to New Zealand so you can be one of the first to experience it.
Also convenient that it's going to take place at the beginning of the weekend. Nice time to get your rapture on.
My parents where part of a religion that told them the world was going to end in 1976. so they hurried to have a baby. Me. 34 years later, I’m still here. Living.
Everyday was apocalypse when I was growing up. I’m rather numb to threats of the world ending now.
I heard there would be a worldwide earthquake, at 6 (am or pm I'm not sure) but I don't see how that works as we're all in different time zones. Apart from this, my response is ROFL get a grip of yourselves (not you, but whoever believes in this shit). I find it amusing when people suicide before the world actually ends, and then.. the world doesn't end! 8D

Amen to that ^
I really dislike how some people just take things out of the Bible to make something say or be what they want it to be. It's just contradictory to say [i]this is when the bible says the world will end[i] when really it out right says BUT OF THAT DAY AND HOUR NO ONE KNOWS....
just some rant there
While I believe that there will be a rapture, I doubt it will be tommarow.
It's like quad mentioned. The bible itself states that only the father knows the day and hour that the rapture will occure. Man can not predict when.
Personally, I think we're going to have to get thre 2012 first. :B XD
I heard some wacko theory once that in 2014 computers and appliances would become smart enough to attack us. So like we were going to be attacked by microwaves and toasters or something. I thought it was pretty hilarious.
Hmph. The world as we know it changes every day. There is no need to have a special day for it! And the millenium, it was the end-of-the-world year, 6/6/06 too. Nothin. I don't think anything will happen in 2012 either. They just ran out of room on the big stone thing.
Pffffrrrrt end of the world my buttfluff!

If your raptured, hooray! Heaven and glory and yadda yadda aren't you special? c:
If you're not raptured, there's going to be a lot of empty houses! ;D
I'm sure many of you are old enough to remember the "Millieneum Crisis", when thousands of people thought two bits of computer code would cause the Earth to fall off its axis and crash into the sun.
I honestly believe that people convince themselves that ridiculous world-end scenarios are coming just so they can treat people like crap and make no effort to be or do anything worthwhile. I mean, if the world were really ending, what would be the point?
Totally baking apocalypse-themed pastries tomorrow, end of the world or not.
Don't believe a word of it, but if I'm going out, I'm going out with a plateful of cupcakes.
I just wanted to add that I am baffled that all of these religious, apocalypse-obsessed nutjobs fail to recall that the true date for the Rapture was never mentioned in the Bible. It's all unknown. Hell, I'm agnostic and even I know that! People will believe anything, ugh.
I'm in the middle of watching Harry Potter, and the world is NOT ending in the middle of me watching Harry Potter, just.. heeeeeeeeellll no. |:
.. Lol in a more serious tone, I really do ponder what exactly goes through the minds of those who truly think that the world is ending in the next 24 or so hours, or at all anytime soon. ~ o;
Hah... I remember when 06/06/06 came up a while back xD Such amusement...
Tomorrow seems kinda random though. Not really much novelty in it, but what do I know?
6pm today, I was on a coach coming back from Manchester. Evidently I haven't died.
No flames or lava or demons or hail - not a single car off the road. Seems things didn't go as planned.
Well, I always believed that if a human enters the forest, they become deer with the default pelt, default antlers, with no pictogram. That's what I believe the nameless are- Humans who have entered the forest.
Yeah I've noticed that too,
I wish people would just relax and enjoy life rather than live in this 'gloom and doom' kind of way. I may be a pessimist but at least I try not to worry about things like this.
