Invitation to Autumn (seasonal traditions)

quadraptor's picture
I thought this would be an interesting topic. I've discovered a little about myself that my favorite season is Autumn. Beforehand, I always thought Summer was my favorite, because it was the time away from school to relax and have fun. Well, as I grew older, Summer became less of a season to relax and more of one to get things done (or to work more than I normally would).

So eventually I discovered Autumn was my favorite season. It has a lot of nostalgia for me, and I just love the weather when it's between hot and cold. Plus the trees are just so beautiful.

Anyway, I've discovered that I have started some traditions to invite or otherwise 'celebrate' the coming of Autumn:

#1: 10 Years was a band I got to hear at a local music festival in October, Bayfest. I bought their first CD at the festival and ever since I associated their music with Autumn. I seem to only listen to them between September through December. Since yesterday, I started listening to them again in celebration of Autumn.

Ironically, their first album is titled The Autumn Effect.

Here are a few of my favorite songs by them, if you wanted to hear what they sound like:

10 Years - Wasteland (first song I heard by them)
10 Years - Seasons to Cycles (Really pretty song)
10 Years - So Long, Goodbye (Probably my favorite song. This would be Quad's death song if he had one)

#2: I start to wear more black T-shirts during the Autumn months. I do not wear black during the Summer because we get 90+ degree weather down here so it's too hot for black (I wear different colors during the summer, especially red). Even today, I am wearing a black T-Shirt.

#3: On the first day that the air is colder than I'm used to, I will roll down the window in my car and drive with my arm out. It feels so nice because my old car did not have a good air condition, so I was always sweating and having to roll down the windows.

#4: When my store starts to carry festive gourds, I will buy five (to represent each member of my family) and put them in a basket on the dining table for decoration.

#5: I start to pay attention to my satsuma tree in the back yard. By November or so, the satsumas will be ready to be picked, and I can get anywhere from 60 to 140 of them from this one tree.

So these are my traditions for inviting Autumn. If you have traditions for your favorite season (or seasons), please share them! It can be for any season - Autumn is just my favorite!

Lucky! It's so hot down

Lucky! It's so hot down here that we never get snow. I've only seen it three times in my life, and one of those three was on Mt. Rainer in Seattle, WA. Every day that it gets cold enough for snow here, the sky is completely clear, and the few times it has snowed were back when I was in elementary school.

That sounds like a fun (and probably painful) tradition Laughing out loud

I don't have any specific

I don't have any specific autumn traditions, except for smelling the air. Where I'm at, on certain autumn days, the air smells like someone's cooking bacon on a wood-burning grill or something.

Seed - that sounds a lot

Seed - that sounds a lot like summer afternoons for me. She loves to cook hamburgers, steaks, chicken, ect. on our grill in the back yard, and it's so funny because it's right next to the door to the house so not only does the back yard smell like grilled meat, but the house does too!

Pickle96 - I KNOW! I want snow so badly!! Winters here are only cold air, frost on the windshields of our cars (we go out and start our cars 15 minutes before we leave so the defroster has the windows cleared up), and wearing jackets. I guess if anything's good about it, it's that we don't have to worry about shoveling snow or having ice on the roads, but it sure takes a lot of the fun out of the season.

wow, i just realised that

wow, i just realised that for you no snow means no sleding or epic snowball fights, but you can still ice skate right? Snow can be annoying though, like you have to put on a bunch of stuff just to get the paper and when your walking to school your all snowy and then it melts and your all wet. Snow isnt always the greatest. ^^

Nope, we don't even get ice.

Nope, we don't even get ice. All we get is frost on our windshields and cold air. That's it.

I could say the same thing about hot weather. It's nice at first (especially when you're sick of the cold weather), but it just gets hotter and hotter, and I feel so bad for people with black cars and/or leather interiors in their car, because they just grill themselves trying to drive it.

D: that would suck, and yes

D: that would suck, and yes summer=hot. I love to wear black, infact thats just about all i have are black clothes, i wear them happily until summer comes and tries to fry me. I will stubbornly continue to wear them until I cant handle it anymore, then i must switch to blues and greys. XD

My wardrobe is fairly mixed.

My wardrobe is fairly mixed. I especially love wearing black, red, blue, and green shirts, but I have everything else including green, yellow, orange, white, brown, tan, grey, and so on. (I don't wear pink obviously because I'm a guy)

I've got a fair assortment of black shirts, which are usually band shirts or funny t-shirts my brother gives me from Hot Topic. My red, blue, and green ones are generally surfing or have deer on them. The yellow one is a Bubba Gump Shrimp shirt from Universal Studios, and the orange one is a really funny Timberland shirt that has the nutritional info of the Earth on the back (one of my favorite shirts, although I don't like to wear orange that much).

I like purple,black,blue and

I like purple, black, blue and grey. Mom tries to force other colors onto me but she has not succeded yet! (i could name three guys right now who love to wear pink XD)

I love to wear anything that has paint splatter and a bunch of symbols on it, You will never find me wering pink, EVER but sometimes i give in and wear green. I always wear a hoodie only when it gets really hot will i take them off, so that when summer rolls around everyone is looking at me trying to comprehend where my hoodie went. XD
