Yes, you´re a fawn for a month from the moment you register, until you grow up and can keep your spells/sets.
You just need to wait for your deer to grow up.

You can get mask-spells by eating mushrooms from mushroom-trees, but you need someone else to cast them on you. You can´t keep them long though as long as you´re still a fawn.
Yes, big deer can keep their sets, but you can still lose them though if you fall into the pond for example... but they don´t fade off anymore like they do for fawns. If you´re playing the newest version of the game you can also save your set and load it back if you happen to lose it. =)

Deer having the same picto is just a glitch, trust me they appear a lot on nameless deer, haha. And for the adopting, my deer love to adopt fawns, but not when they beg. :c
Sometimes other deer do adopt, but most of the time deer just play. Fawns here don't necessarily need mothers or fathers, but if you keep playing with the same people, then you might just become family to them. Just keep playing.

Sure. I actually find it very adorable when a fawn comes and copies my deer. It's a sure-fire way to get yourself some friends, and yes, maybe even adopted.

Fawns are not supposed to be able to wear most spells indefinitely, and the magic wears off. Spells can be saved using the game menu but this work-around is prone to failure which might have resulted in you losing your appearance.
Once your deer has grown up (about 31 days from the first time you logged into the game) you will be able to wear and save spells normally.
Your game also saves anything you close the game with, so if you saved them, but closed the game with any else, you'll lose them. That may be the possiblity.
