----------------------------------------------------------------
Hello to all, Im new to ToT and TEF, joined a few minutes ago. Im pretty much getting the hang of the actions and stuff, but I have a few questions concerning this game since ive already read some of the posts/
rants about wearing the same "set" as another deer, hanging around deer that you dont know and then their friends yelling at you, and lastly: attention.
So first things first:
wearing the same "set" as another deer; Ive noticed people complaining about it/getting all mad and using the fight icons..(is that what there called?) really, I dont make a big deal about it and would probably ignore them. What I want to ask is this: em i (silly to say)
Allowed to wear a set I like , or will i get ran over by 100 deer because im wearing some famous deer's pelt and they dont appreciate the fact that I like wearing it?:/
Second,
hanging around deer that you dont know and then their friends yelling at you;
Well, my friend joined tef a few days earlier and she got yelled at by at least 3 other deer for getting close to one fawn and saying a simple hello...I dont think thats neccessary?
And last;
attention...The last time I used the bow action to at least 8 deer, they ignored me. litterly. All they did was look at me, and the simply either walk away, sit down, or roar at me to go away.
Im not trying to make anyone mad but, Im already not feeling welcomed, sorry to say...
I hope tomorrow I meet more "friendly" deer.
A) For wearing the same set:
For example: My friend Kittycatkita has a deer Keiran who has a pretty regular set to see (skull mask+dotd pelt). Apparently some other player uses that set who acts like a complete butt munch in forest. Despite the fact that her deer is fairly nice she constantly gets deer trying to fight her due to the deer who shares the set. People usually are too lazy to check the picto before they leap so it is something to be mindful of.
B) No. It's not necessary. I don't know why certain players choose to act like this.
C) Chances are you ran across the big unfriendly group that lounges around occasionally. There has been some problems with a certain deer harassing a handful of people recently and it has made a group of users really inhospitable to anyone they don't immediately recognize or like because the player harassing them keeps changing pictos.
I really hope you do meet better deer. You choose to join in a time when rude/mean/evil/loner deer are in style so it's a bit difficult to try and interact nicely with others. You gotta pick and choose your battles and go after the nice approachable players.
Chances are they won't be near the big 'super group' of deer sitting together that rear/roar/get angry at people for approaching.
Fawns are usually always a good bet too. They're new players like yourself so they may seem a bit silly/confusing at first but you can have some good times with them.
Feel free to check out my deer's pictos and run over if you see me in forest. I'll happily show you around and play silly games.
Alecsander- Thank you for
Also, I like your name, its Unique.
Welcome. I like your picto,
I like your picto, it's interesting.
I personally find it funny if a deer dresses like mine.. ^^;;
Kaoori- Thank you for the
And its nice to know someone likes my picto, was the first one that went on the screen when i went to the registry. I myself find it interesting having a twin in forest.
Thank you. It's my real
It's my real name funny enough.
But yeah, You picked a somewhat tense time to be coming in.
On February 13th a in forest dance/celebration is being held for valentines day.
It'd be a good one to try and make it to if you want to see many of the active deer all grouped together in one spot.
You also have to factor in the bit of 'fawn disadvantage'.
Disadvantage being: You all look the same.
Assuming everyone is lazy like me it's a bit hard to remember whose fawn belongs to what player unless you really memorize the picto or hang out with them in forest a lot/know the player personally.
Yours is luckily pretty unique and clear/distinct.
Some players go out of their way to play with fawns. Some get lazy and just ignore them for their patterned friends. It's one of those things. Just be persistent (provided they're not button mashing hate/anger emotes at you) and they'll socialize or give a polite head shake no and a bow to say 'no sorry I don't feel like playing right now.'
If they're just sitting and outright ignoring for a long time then go to sleep I can almost guarantee they're in a window doing something else or just plain not at the computer. I do this all the time. I'll be playing a flash game or chatting on MSN with my deer just sitting there so I have NO idea if anyone came up to play.
Having a sitting deer ignore you shouldn't be necessarily be taken as a rude gesture since most of the time the player isn't actively looking at the forest.
Sometimes you can get them up with a moo+bow+pawing ground (as in 'hey play with me!') gesture but they're probably just not looking to realize someone is saying hello.
Alecsander- woah, wish I had
feb, 13th, hm well I just checked out the whole" a in forest dance/celebration is being held for valentines day. " thing , and sadly I might not be able to attend unless my laptop actually allows me to connect since the internet is so slow every time (and if i do connect its about 3-4 frps).. so even if i did come in there would be a lot of lag. Ill try , Id really love to come in and meet some nice deer out there. Thanks for the info. Ill make sure to make a note on the action thing with mooing and bowing at them. I figured some are in that situation , altough most of the time i said hello they were talking to other deer and simply turned their heads and then ignored me. I understand : fawns seem the same and boring. Maybe I can ask my friend for a character that is all grown up just for that day so i can actually be recognized. We'll see.
Ah yes, the 3-4 frame rates
I'm normally a 4-5 at best myself. It's so hilarious because I can be running across the forest and get chased down by deer *walking*.
Anyway It was nice chatting with you and feel free to hit me up for a conversation any time. It's pretty late here (2 am) so I gotta head to bed due to early classes tomorrow. x)
If you have any more questions or just want to have a friendly chat feel free to leave posts on My main deer Furfur's status page.
You seem pretty awesome as far as new members go and I'll definitely have my eyes peeled for your picto in forest. We can *lag* together.
Sleep well , its pretty late
Hey, welcome to the forest!
Hey there, welcome to the
alecsander did a very good job there, answering you questions ^^
hmm it is really a pity you already make such bad experiences... really...
I felt really welcome when i first joined the forest.
But at the moment... people are getting a little.... strange. But don't mind that, there are many, many friendly deer out there. ^^
oh and you are always welcome to aproach one of mine *points to the pictos in her signature*
btw, your picto is big win, indeed xD
edit: please ignore the eypos, i just walked through a snowstorm, my hands are kinda.... frozen |D
It's really saddening all
But anyway, hello Jail! Welcome to The Endless Forest! We hope you can enjoy your time here. I'll keep an eye out for ya. <3
Welcome Jail! Bawww, I'm
Bawww, I'm really sorry you had to read all of that before interacting with the people of the forest. ;^;
A. Honestly, the same set wearing is a little petty and you should be able to wear what you want. Don't let someone's own thoughts keep you away from the set of your dreams |D It's not like we have a plethera of sets to choose from anyways. X3 For those who get angry over those things need to just deal with it.
B. No it isn't necessary. My deer always greet potential new members and try to be friendly towards them until we get to know each other. I tend to go OOC when I see a picto I don't recognize. So you and you're friend are welcome to come sit, play with any of my deer. ^^
C. Just ignore them, if they can't give you a simple greeting then that's their problem, no yours. There are many people here so don't let their actions ruin it for everyone. ^^
BTW, I love you're picto and name combination |D
Kita- Thank you! Ill look for
Alicev- Thanks, and I taught
Haha, I love my picto too , its the first one that came up and it looked pretty awesome so i picked it. And thats fine, I myself am outside too, where theres snow.
Very Crazy Girl-Thank you. Im
MrsHalloween-
Thanks(:
I'm sorry you got a poor
I used to get a little annoyed finding a deer has the same set as one of mine, but with how many people there are and the limited number of spells, I more easily tolerate it now. Just as long as the "twin" isn't being a "twin" TO annoy by purposely getting the set to flaunt it in front of the other.
2: I don't usually push anyone away (unless I have a good reason). I understand people have less social deer who don't want company, as long as they aren't rude about showing it. But also make sure you don't bother the deer who make it clear they want to be left alone. Constantly bothering someone who just wants to sit and enjoy the Forest in solitude should have their wish respected. If you still want to be around them, do so from a respectable distance. Who knows? They may break out of their shell if you're respectful about trying to befriend them. =]
3: This annoys me the most. Everyone who greets should at least be greeted back. There are exceptions of course, such as the deer who are just passing and decide to bow to everyone they walk past, leaving too fast to get a bow in return. But I also found there is a rare glitch that makes it so no one will notice you. Literally. The Forest can on very VERY rare occasions make you not visible. I had this happen once; restarting fixed it. There are also a few players who turn player visibility down for whatever reason.
That long comment aside... |D Welcome to the Forest. May your future days in it be more welcoming.
Welcome to the forest! With a
I'm sorry you've run into trouble already, I guess I've either been lucky or oblivious so far. I've definitely heard rumors of trouble, though.
I hope to see you in the forest! I will warn you that my deer's actions are sometimes delayed, such as bowing in response, but I'll always try to include others in whatever's going on if they look interested. I just tend to have problems with the game running very slow on my computer, so sometimes if people bow and wait five seconds and run off, I'm still trying to get my cursor to the bow action on my screen. I've had that happen a few times. I hope we meet, and I hope you have better experiences in the future!
Jail, now that I am back on a
Their status page shows if I am online and which deer I am on as well as their pictos ^^ I hope we can meet up in the forest soon!
Hi there, Jail! First of all,
Second of all, know this: no matter how aggressive deer may seem to be in game, this has got to be, hands down, one of the nicest communities I've ever been in. I've been to a lot of communities, too, but never have I been somewhere where people were so forgiving. Yes, we have our disagreements a lot, but so far, at the end of the day, people are willing to admit that it's all just opinion and we're all entitled to that and we generally don't take stuff personally.
So before I answer your questions(to the best of my ability!), please keep this in mind: what happens in the forest between your deer and someone elses? It's not personal. Please don't think that because someone's deer ignored you, that the player doesn't like you.
My main deer, Bylah, is about as unwelcoming and unfriendly as they come. What he does is his actions, not mine, and chances are, your deer could come up to him and bow, and he would ignore it. On the other hand, my deer Xabraxas would not only bow back, but sniff, nuzzle, and sit beside your deer for hours, if you let him.
So just keep in mind that the actions of the deer don't necessarily reflect the thoughts of the player - and on the rare chance that they should, it's probably just a misunderstanding.
Moving on!
1.) I, personally, have no issues with someone wearing the same set my deer wear. As it's been pointed out, there are only so many pelts, masks, and antlers out there, so it's sort of inevitable for there to be a little bit of overlap.
2.) To be honest, that wasn't necessary, really. If she did nothing more than bow hello and then got roared at, that's pretty bad, in my book.
3.) This could be for several reasons. If they were sitting and didn't do anything, as it's been pointed out, they may have been away from their keyboard, or doing something in another window; I'm guilty of this, I'll admit it. I'm often watching television, RPing, or even playing another game in another window, so I don't see everything that happens in game, I'll admit.
Keep in mind, also, that 'roaring' doesn't always mean 'go away'. Bellowing in game can be construed as anything from 'go away' to 'hi!'. Next time, moo back at them. If they start displaying threatening postures(Lowering antlers, faux charges), or shake their head no, then that might be a sign of saying go away. But mooing, in and of itself, I usually don't take to mean 'scram'.
In closing - don't be afraid to come to us with questions like this. Everyone here plays the game very differently, so it's always a good idea to ask if someone does something that you think might be aggression/anger. This way, there's a chance that the person who did it can read your post and clarify what their deer meant to do. I promise, no one here is going to get angry with you over simple, polite questions. We're definitely not that kind of community.
I know your first impression might not have been the best, but remember that there's no real set 'rules' on how to play TEF, so we all do it differently. Try to be open minded about how each action could be interpreted, and I think you'll find your experience a lot more pleasant.
Again, welcome to TEF. :3 Hope to see you in the forest!
Aw, I'm sorry to hear you
But anyway...Hello
1 ) I don't mind if people are wearing the same set as my deer, it's how you see the character in your head...and I'm sure no one see's their deer in the same way even if they wear the same set ^^
2 ) I don't know what was going on there...if my deer was with a fawn, I'd surely let you play with him/her...
3 ) Hm...if I saw you, I'd surely bow to you, unless I'm looking at the TV screen and just running/jumping about. Then I wouldn't notice, and I'm sorry if I did ignore you. If I did, it wasn't on purpose.
I hope you have a better day tomorrow ^^
Hello as well! You seem to be
Welcome to the forest.

Thanks for the compliment and the welcoming!
And yeah, I understand now that you said that what the deal is with all this stuff thats been going on. Bylah sounds like an interesting deer even tough a little rough on the edge, Ill be sure to leave him be and keep a big distance away, I just want everyone to be happy and not bothered by anything. Ill keep in mind about the roaring part ,too and see what they say back.
Ill also ask any questions if i have more. Thank you for the detailed and nice reply. (Also, I really enjoy reading your storys, Ive read most of them by now and I think Bylah is a fascinating ...I wouldnt say deer id say God , really.
