Bayleen~ At this question
At this question Turkey brightned up. "Oh yes! Master and I live together with the crows in that... that thing... over there now." he pointed his muzzle over to an old, broken down shed that was actually hidden quite well in the clearing. Turkey continued, "Master is really nice to me. At nights, he always tells me the best stories!" then his face darkened a bit. "But... he's usually always gone during the days... So I'm all alone..." He looked back at the little ant that was starting to crawl up his knee, then smiled. "I'm not alone now though!"
Mariposa laughed. "Yes, you
Mariposa~ Turkey didn't know
Turkey didn't know how to answer that. He pretty much understood the gist of it, but not how to answer it. "Well... I met these two real nice deer a bit ago... Then Master chased em' off... That made me sad... I dunno why he does it... I wanna make friends too.." his soft brown eyes were beginning to well with tears. He had never really thought about why Bartleby had been isolating him for all this time. He never would, and even if explained, he knew he wouldn't be able to understand
Mariposa's ears went back,
[Late replyyyy is late. >.
The Priest stood and shook off some of the accumulated grass from his pelt, then sat back down again. "You have three brothers, hm? I have a forest filled with brothers." Not close family, of course, but...through other ways. Though he had some close ties as well, he had the ever-growing family of brothers.
In a way, he supposed, he should never be lonely.
Bayleen~ Turkey brightened
Turkey brightened up. "D'aw, that's okay! I cry allllll the time." he cocked his head and asked. "Do you cry sometimes?" The tears that had threatened to spill seemed like they had just been sucked back in. Quite the mood-swinger, Turkey was
Ocean~ (Late reply is cooler
"Hm. Your parents must have had quite the exciting life then." Bartleby licked his hoof some more, it was a good way for him to get mind off of things. Thinking about parents and long-lasting relationships only made him seem even more depressed.
[Aha! o:] The Priest
The Priest chuckles. "I cannot say I knew my mother for very long. She sent me off to a mission as a young boy. As for my father, I do not remember him. The memories are all cast in shadow now." He shrugs and looks away.
"My brothers are brothers bound by our ties to the forest and our ties to the Gods. I do not know if I have any biological brothers, though this large of a family is certainly something to speak for."
Mariposa looked at him and
Ocean~ Bartleby had never
Bartleby had never been religious. Not in his human life, nor in his deer life. He found it to be a waste of time, especially since his life had always been quite busy. "At least you didn't know them to hate them." Bartleby muttered. His thoughts detached themselves once more. "Is he still alive?" he briefly thought. "No... it's been too many years to count..." he looked up at the sky for a small moment then said, "It must be nice to have so many brothers, brothers that will always be there for you."
The ancient red stag sighs
Was he still angry with his mother, or had he ever been? He couldn't say. He felt a strange disconnect, as if that part of his life had never existed. All for the better anyway, in the end.
Bayleen~ Turkey, of course
Turkey, of course had only seen the lake in his short fawn life. So he didn't remember what one really looked like. He didn't care though, this Mari doe was just getting more interesting by the second. He thought about Mari's story of her past for a little bit. "Wait.. remember that 'witch' thing in yer story? That kinda reminds me of Master...." her stumbled over the words a bit, but was coming to a realization. He gasped and suddenly lept to his feet. "Does this mean I've had a 'prince charming' all along?!"
Bartleby looked at the stag
Bartleby looked at the stag for a long time. He wondered why he felt such an odd connection to the old stag. Then it hit him. He looked at the stag in the eye and asked, quite simply, "Are you immortal?"
Mariposa laughed heartily and
The Priest closes his eyes, a
"Why do you ask?"
Bayleen~ "Mate?" now Turkey
"Mate?" now Turkey was really confused. "Is a 'mate' another word for a 'prince charming'?" he asked. Of course many does had come to him before, but like this one here, Turkey just assumed that they wanted to be friends rather than court. But before any of them had ever asked the question, he Master, the little white fawn Bartleby, had always chased them away.
Ocean~ "Then why isn't it
"Then why isn't it like that for all other deer?!" Bartleby sprang up and looked at the stag with a sudden, flaring passion. "Why are you so happy about it?!" he circled around himself again and again, the bottled up emotions in himself were threating to break. "Everywhere you look, every deer you meet, you see die. Everyone you get close to, dies. Even 'theys'... those two-legged things, even 'they' run away from you. HE ran away, they all do, even the deer...." he dropped back to the ground in despair. Exhibiting such emotion was a rare occurance for Bartleby, especially around a deer he had just met. And for that, he felt quite ashamed.
"Well," Mari explained as she
Bayleen~ Of course there
Of course there were many words in her explanation that were more complicated and confusing, Turkey got the general meaning of it. "So, a mate is a deer who you reeeeally love." he suddenly got it. "Wait... but if that's the case, then wouldn't Master be my mate? No... that;s a different kinda love, right?" he turned to the butterflies and bent down to gently touch one with his nose.
"Yes!" Mari cried happily.
The doe looked up at the sky. So clear and serene. She moved closer to a beam of light that dripped through the leaves and branches of the timber trees and looked to the golden sun that floated in the blue sky.
"Love is all you need," she finally said. "Such a wonderful feeling- like you're walking on air! All you want to do is be with the one you truly love. It's everywhere, like oxygen.."
Bayleen~ Turkey was about
Turkey was about ask what oxygen was before a sudden rasping call of a crow filled the air. Master Bartelby must be coming back then. But he didn't want such a nice new friend to leave! He whipped his head over the Mari, "Uhm... do you wanna go somewhere else? Maybe not here... um" there was urgency in his voice, he did'nt want his Master to go chasing away other deer again!
"In this forest, life is what
"Life must be what you make of it. That is all I can fathom."
Mari almost ducked when she
Then she turned back to Turkey. "Umm.. we could go to the Ruins?" she suggested.
Ocean~ "It isn't life if you
"It isn't life if you can never die." Bartleby murmured. He felt near to tears now, he wouldn't shed them of course, that wasn't the Bartleby way. "How can you think of it as a blessing? For me it was meant to be punishment, to see everyone around me die.... To see the people I love most run away from me...." he lowered his head to the ground and closed his eyes, taking in a long, shuddering gasp of air. He would not cry, not in front of this stag.
Bayleen~ Turkey didn't even
Turkey didn't even know what the ruins were, but just nodded his head and sprinted off in some random direction. There wasn't much time, he could be coming anymoment now...
The doe dashed after Turkey,
The stag cautiously and
Bayleen~ Ah! She was
Ah! She was following him! His heart lept with delight. After running a bit more, he stopped at another small clearing with a little brook that ran between it. "Okay..." he gasped. "We're okay now. So... where are these 'ruins'?"
Though Mariposa heard him
Sadly, she was running so fast that she fell into the little brook and was drenched. Her long hair ran flat against her face.
( I have to go soon. Great roleplay so far! By guys! )
Ocean~ Bartleby stiffened at
Bartleby stiffened at once, but slowly started to loosen up a bit. Physical contact was something he really only reserved for Turkey when he had to clean him, or the crows when they landed on his back. It had been years since he had ever really felt such a gesture of love and trust from someone besides Turkey, he really didn't count since he was so easy to please. Figuring that the stag wouldn't notice now, Bartleby let a few hot tears run down his furry cheeks. He didn't sniffle or sob, he just let the tears escape him. "When will it be enough?" he whispered. "I've been wanting to die ever since I was banished to this damned place... but I never do..."
Bayleen~ (Aw, bye! Have fun
"Oh no!" Turkey tried to help the doe, easing her up. He brushed his body next to her's, trying to dry her off. "Sorry! Sorry... I didn't mean to..."
The Priest's smile was
"I would go with you, if you wished it."
Ocean~ Bartleby started to
Bartleby started to see a new ally in this stag. He looked important. Maybe... just maybe the God's would let him die, would let him rejoin with... him... He shook his head a little. "When I was first banished here... I wanted to die right then. I lay between the two statues. For years maybe. Moss and lichen grew on my fur. Some deer would consider me a new addition to the statue and worship me..." he turned to the stag, a helplessness and pleading in his eyes. "Will they even listion to you? I'll go, of course. But then again, I've tried everything, how do I know that you're not just another hoax?"
The Priest sighs. "Alas, I
"I do wish I might help more."
Ocean~ That was good enough
That was good enough for Bartleby. No one else ever even went with him. The crows wouldn't take it seriously, and Turkey just wouldn't understand. He wordlessly crept through the nearby brambles over to where the Twin God statues lay. He hoped that the Gods would listen. Then again, that's what he always hoped, and they never did. He wouldn't let his heart sink into pessimism though. He had a new companion, and that was all that mattered. As he neared the statues, he paused and looked at them a bit. Would they grant his request? And if they did, what would happen to Turkey? He shook off any remorse that had settled on him and stepped forward
The Priest stood and shook
Ocean~ (Mehhh... Gotta leave
Bartleby saw that the stag wasn't going to move, whatever, he didn't care at this point. He looked up at the giant hunks of rock and made a rather clumsy bow. "Hello there, miss me?" he sat on the well-trampled grass and licked his hoof in nervous apprehension. "What good is it to have me running around here, scaring your subjects anyway? How many years has it been... hundreds? thousands?" he looked at the statues. They looked back. No response. He was beginning to lose hope.
[Okay. D:] The Priest began
The Priest began to hum softly, hoping the deities would appear. Yet, he had little hope as well; they had not appeared for him either, and he had begun to wonder if they were truly gone.
If you still exist, O my Gods, I beg of you to come to us.
They couldn't be gone. They would never leave the forest they were so tied to...
Ginger~ "Oh, no no. It's
"Oh, no no. It's alright!" Mari responded to the stag's worry. "It was my fault anyways. I'm still quite shaky and unstable on my legs. I can never stop quite correctly."
Ocean~ (Oh hai :3) Bartleby
Bartleby didn't even hear the Priest's low humming, he was too busy staring down at the two statues. "What else was I supposed to do?" he muttered to them. "Just let Jergens die? Did you expect me to just sit back watch that?" he lowered his head and pawed at the ground. He didn't care anymore that the Priest might hear, that he might judge him badly. He didn't care anymore.
Mariposa~ Turkey's eyes
Turkey's eyes widened in amazement. "Wow... so you could run all around here without ever stopping unless you ran into something?" this doe really WAS quite the interesting one.
Mari chuckled. "I can stop,
Bayleen~ Turkey was even
Turkey was even more astounded by this. "So... you could go really really really fast and not even be able to tell where yer goin'?" he splashed across the brook and back, even more delighted than before. "That's sooo amazing! Can you teach me?" he wagged his tail, almost like a playful little puppy.
[Ohey. xD] The Priest kept
The Priest kept silent, still praying. He was listening, though, wondering again. He would never ask or intrude, but he was curious. He glanced at the other, hoping the Gods had come to him.
It didn't look like it.
He continued praying.
"Teach you?" Mariposa
Ocean~ ACK! I'm sorry ;; I
Bartleby knelt a bit more. How humiliating. Praying to two God that ke knew would never even bat an eyelash at him. Why bother anymore? He stood up and strolled over to the old stag. "I'm going to even bother anymore..." he muttered, his eyes were a dull red. He didn't feel like fighting it anymore. Might as well just sleep between the statues again...
Bayleen~ "Hm... true..." the
"Hm... true..." the stag nodded his head. He bent down and stuck his snout into the brook. He gulped up a few mouthfuls of water and brought his head back up, his muzzle dripping wet.
[I didn't either. ^^; So
The Priest sighs and stands. "Sometimes, the Gods do not answer our prayers directly or right away. All we can do is wait." He sits again, motioning for the little fawn to sit beside him. The Gods might grant the little deer's request someday...
The Priest's eyes began to grow heavy. It had been a rather long day.
Ocean~ OMGFTW 100TH
Weary himself, the fawn laid beside him and closed his eyes a little. That is, of course, until he heard a distinct rasping of a crow not too far off. He opened his eyes a bit more... ah yes... it's coming closer thats for sure. Almost there....
"Master Bartleby?"
He heard a flutter of wings land in front of him. He raised his head. "Ah, hello Credit.... Looking for me?" he stood up and let the white-beaked crow land on his back. Credit glared over at the old stag suspiciously. "Who be this ol' hinny? Ya go off and fettle the day wit' him witout telling us?"
(Yes... because I couldn't think of anything else to do... 0-o)
