~The Forgotten Past~

**This is Dieu's life before he lost his memories. Thought you all might be a bit curious. Eye Note that Dieu himself recalls NONE of this. (Except for the last section.) This is for entertainment/reference purposes. Enjoy**

As the little fawn began to come to life, sounds rushed to fill his ears. His nostrils became clogged with brand new scents. And his eyes, ooh once they open he was greeted with a beautiful sight. A lush forest, with countless trees, shrubs, and flowers. The little fawn heard a soft laugh, and looked up, his eyes full of wonder. What had laughed was none other than his mother, a beautiful hazeldoe.
"Why, hello there little one. I see you're finally awake."
She commented, placing her muzzle underneath his chin. He blinked, and then nuzzled her in regonition. This was his mother!
"Your name, my darling...will be Dieu. Isn't it a lovely name?"
Dieu... he thought, and nodded frantically. It was indeed a lovely name. He went over it in his mind, rolling the letters off his tongue in a whisper.
"Di-eu. Dieu!"
She smiled at proudly at her fawn, and then turned to the side, whispering something he couldn't hear.
That's when another fawn faced him, face frozen in bewilderment. The newborn blinked slowly, feeling his body begin to quiver. As he walked towards Dieu, Dieu felt, not afraid, but eager. This was a fawn just like him...and it smelled of his mother. Was this his brother? The other fawn halted, and leaned down, within Dieu's reach. Carefully Dieu raised his head slightly, and breathed in short sniffs of the other. He smelled of his mother, yes, but the scent of an incredilbly sweet substance radiated off the other's pelt strongly. It smelled delicious. The fawn would have no reason to know that the scent was that of vanilla, since no one would expect that pampered plant to grow out here. It would be easy to identify the scent among many, even thousands, of deers'. Smiling, Dieu nodded to himself, and looked up once more. This was indeed his brother. His brother sniffed his own scent, drawing closer as he did so.
Snorting in happiness, Dieu pressed his nose against his brother's..and that's when an unbreakable bond formed.
______________

The first few weeks were like heaven on earth, the two brothers could do basically anything as long as they had their mother in sight. At first they stayed glued to her side, but as the days flew by they found themselves inching farther and farther away from her. She was always in hearing range, however, and would call them back if they went too far.
In those weeks they learned how to forage, where it was safe to drink, and how to worship the Gods.
Their mother respected them like all the other deer, and made it a requirement to pray daily. Dieu and Tabiu often snuck away while their mother was deep in prayer, and went off to play in the nearby pond. Although this aggravated the doe, she let it pass. After all, they were two young brothers in a world full of adventure.

_______________

It had been a month or so, and the fawns were old enough to be left alone for hours at a time. Their mother would often venture out to find their next meal, or just to scout ahead. They were left in each others' care. When one slept, the other watched out for danger. Of course, they had plenty of fun and mischief as well.
One day, as Tabiu slept, Dieu sensed another presence. He shifted himself uneasily, and glanced around the clearing. Nothing had ever actually happened to the pair, and the idea that something would happen now was just plain frightening. Dieu considered waking up his brother, but by then it seemed whatever had been lurking around was gone. The fawn was relieved, and happily rested his head on his brother's back.
However, his peace didn't last long. Whenever their mother wasn't around, Dieu sensed the being. Everytime it got closer. He was worried about not only his safety, but his whole family. Now whenever Tabiu took watch, Dieu actually stayed awake. He had to keep him safe.
The day after, Dieu had managed to doze off while Tabiu wandered a few feet away to nab some tasty honeysuckles. Suddenly, he felt a burning sensation on his face. Yelping in both surprise and fear, Dieu snapped both eyes open. What he saw was a green eye, burning right back into his own green orbs.
"Dieu! Are you alright?"
His brother's voice rang out of the distance. The creature snarled, and dashed into the shadows.
Still in shock, Dieu didn't notice his brother was back treating his wound, until it stung.
"Ouch. he muttered.
Dieu! What the hell happened? Why is your face slashed?"
Dieu froze. He couldn't tell him the truth...
"Oh...I saw a squirrel, and tried to stomp on its tail to catch it. I slipped, and cut myself on a rock...nothing major.
He grunted, and scratched his ear.
"You worry too much, brother."
Tabiu blinked, then grinned. He snuggled up to Dieu, and whispered into his ear.
"Only because it's you..."
Then, Tabiu's sleeping breath was on his neck. Dieu winced, and closed his eyes slowly.
'Brother...I cannot bear the thought of you or mother being injured by that...monster. I'll protect you, I swear.'

The fawn looked back at his brother's sleeping form, holding back the tears that wanted to fall.
He was doing this for them. He couldn't look back now. Goodbye... he whispered. Turning silently, he trotted away.
...He only let a single tear fall.

His eyes barely pried themselves open. He blinked as light hit him, completely disoriented. Dieu attempted to stand, but failed miserably.
'Urgh..why..can't...'
A single glance at himself answered that question. He was covered in his own blood, and a variety of wounds. His eyes widened, and he let out a bellow of fear. As soon as he had let that loose, a grand golden stag appeared in front of him. Dieu stared at him, mind completly blank. The stag touched noses with the fawn, and then walked away into the mist. Immediately, Dieu felt a small burst of strength. Then blackness overcame him. It was hours before he woke, disoriented and afraid. Scrambling to his feet, he surveyed his surroundings. He was by the Twin Gods Statue. He remembered a short vision of the stag. Quickly, he bowed, and thanked them a hundred times over.
When he finally left the statues, he realized he had hardly any memories.
'I...was born under a tree in a poppy patch..my mother smells like leaves on the forest floor..and I need to run. Something is chasing me.'
Dieu glanced over his shoulder, and then dashed into the distance, away from the long gone creature.
As well as his old life~
