Flying lessons

Went in last night and after a stroll around couldn't see anydeer else conscious. So I thought I'd start learning some of the things that people have told me about the UI and its use (and abuse). I started by binding some favourite actions to the f-keys and seeing what happens when I mash them up.

Splendid! An excellent and satisfyingly daft start.

Then I followed the advice I'd had for climbing up steep rocks and not bouncing off them like a fool.

Jolly good! Now I shan't look like such a numpty if there's a party on the rocks again. But there was one thing I'd never managed to do that I'd seen everyone else doing, and that was levitating. Every time I'd tried it before I just ended up sitting on my arse on the ground. And eventually (using my new found rock climbing ability to give me a bit of a launch platform)

Yes! I am sitting on my arse IN MID-AIR!

I occupied myself for a good few minutes to familiarise myself with the procedure, and take a few screenshots in various places of my ox-ram-deer-thing hovering in the air in exactly the way that bricks don't.

My mother taught me that "tiny things please tiny minds", and accordingly I was having an inordinately good time simply sitting on my arse in mid-air in various places. Learning to bend some of the rules of the game world to my will made me feel a little more closely bound to it, somehow.

After a while I was joined by Valaire, who proceeded to give me a demonstration of the kind of levitation hijinks a more experienced user can get up to, showing me that you don't need a stone platform to launch off to achieve the effect, and that you can even run for quite a distance entirely in the air before sitting down.

And so I spent a while watching and learning and practicing, and we occasionally landed for a bit of a frolic, the way you do.

We even managed a couple of towers (if you can call a two-deer stack a tower), although those were far more down to Valaire's positional skill than mine. Still it was fun to see!

I still have much to learn though, since I don't really have the hang of doing much else once I am sitting mid-air, I tend to fall straight down if I try any acrobatics. I did get some effects to happen a couple of times but... well, I need more practice.

LOL Laughing out loud

After a good amount of watching and learning it was time to call it a night. Many thanks to Valaire for spending time with me to teach me new things. I really enjoyed it!

A lovely end to a fun night. I hope to see you again soon!

aaahh yay! i love these ;w; I

aaahh yay! i love these ;w; I also had such a blast Yak, i'm so happy i caught you before you logged off, and i was so honored to be one of the first deer you got to fly with!!!! <3
oh trust me, compared to some others, like if you've ever seen Rindea or Widmung stack, i'm extremely unlucky with my flying-landings hahaha. i loved watching you figure out how to dance while floating!!! i was so hyped lol. i genuinely had to have Klownda teach me how to dance while flying, so to see you figure it out all on your own in live-time was like Einstein to my tiny brain.

i really liked this photo in particular,,, reaaaachhh!!!

Yak fits perfectly on Valaire's head

and the end, where Valaire watches over Yak with her beady eyes before sleep takes them

i can't wait to have you join a Large deer stack sometime Yak, they are true, utter chaos, and most often take a very long time to get everyone stacked lol. i'm so happy you documented these moments <33 i had so much fun flying around with you!!

Yak!! Did you just

Yak!! Did you just incorporate another animal to your mixture? Don't go too crazy with the experiments... Lol! I'm so glad you learned how to fly! I bet Val was a great teacher. Somehow, flying came easier to me than climbing, when I watched other deer they were too professional and just jumped on the tree with no problems while Eris hovered around it, haha.

Both your screenshots are wonderful! I love the one where Yak is pummeling to the ground and the one where Val is reaching for him. If we combined them it'd look like she's trying to save the poor creature from hitting it's head. :') I hope you didn't get any concussions Yak. Also, the two screens back on your hill are so sweet. <3

ohh my gosh, this post is such a sweet thing to wake up to seeing : )
Your storytelling is always something to look forward to.
Congratulations on your new skills Yak!

Can't wait to stack with you sometime ! hehe

Haha oh those screenshots are

Haha oh those screenshots are lovely. It looks like I'm sitti ng so neatly on your head. Although that's down to your good positioning rather than any skill of mine. I can assure you there was no Einsteinian business going on on the occasions I did manage to dance in the air, it was just me button mashing to see what worked Laughing out loud

More practice is needed! Especially if I am to attempt to take part in a properly big stack Laughing out loud

Thank you again, you were an excellent flight instructor!

I figure I have to be

I figure I have to be ox-ram-deer-thing because I have always been something of a boanthrope, in the forest I look quite ramly with my ram horns (and several of my best friends IRL happen to be rams) and the underlying basis of forest creatures is inevitably deer. I'd better not accumulate any more animals or it could get confusing. And Yak because yaks are just a cool looking example of an ox Laughing out loud

Haha I love that one where it looks like I am heading straight for the ground. It represents well my current beginner-level flight skills. I shall endeavour to practice more and get more precise. Although I reserve the right to look daft on occasion simply because it's funny Laughing out loud

And yes the ones on the end with us both on the hill are lovely. Just sitting together for a while after a bit of fun and frolics is so nice. People in the forest are always so kind to me <3

thank you! I do love telling

thank you! I do love telling my stories of good times in the forest. And I shall carry on trying to learn better skills, I want to join in with some of those mega stacks some time!

Although I won't be around for a week or so, I have to go to Spain on a train and will be away from my PC.

I shall miss the forest ane everyone in it while I am gone, and I look forward to see ing you all again when I get back! <3
