There was a wolf in the woods today.
he could smell it.
A deer? no, it, smelled like a deer but...there was something, wrong, something, so so wrong with the scent.
It had the small stag on edge, each snap of a twig, or flitting of a leaf made his heart race, and his body shiver.
He attempted to take comfort in the company of the one he held most dear but, the red stag didn't seem to recognize him at first.
After much following, a few sad little pleads, and a surprised gasp or two, he finally seemed to get it.
And so he took comfort in the feeling of the other being near.
He would never be able to repay Jergens his kindness, such patience, certainly he didn't deserve someone so kind as to stand beside him no matter how long or far he ran.
and so, in the idleness of the birch, the warm caressing the flowers of his 'antlers' he curled against the other.
His fur was soft, but it had lost the baby feel to it.
The roses upon him bloomed, large and sweet scented, and, while he was still small, he was a sight to behold.
periwinkle eyes turned to the one beside him as he slept, no doubt he wouldn't awaken any time soon and so, even in his shy mind, he managed to mumble, as he stood to go greet others, a soft, but oh so meaningful.
"I love you"
His first stop was the graveyard, standing before an odd statue that storm-deer Ephire had often spoken to.
"Auntie idol" his legs curled beneath him.
The stone never spoke back but, it calmed him now to speak to it, as it calmed him to speak with Ephire himself.
"Where is Storm-deer Ephire?... Are you watching over him?" his tail flicked, eyes closing as he took in the warmth around him.
"I hope you are...He deserves it...he spends so much time protecting me...I'm sure others too" his eyes flicked open.
"so...I really think he deserves someone watching over him as well...please take care of him...wherever he might be"
He rose, bowing to the stone politely before taking his leave once more.
The poppy patch was most inviting.
It always smelled faintly of brown-stag virgil, whom he loved like a father.
he nipped at a few poppies, more for taste than out of real hunger, pausing to glance at the single beam of light that he had seen Virgil bow to when he had been younger.
He roamed over to the light, shaking a blossom from his head, picking it up and placing it within the golden pool.
He turned, roaming the birch once again, visiting the place he had first met Mother-doe poltergeist.
He wished he'd had more time with her but, he cherished what little he'd had.
A sound...
his ears perked.
...laughing?
he crept amongst the grass.
A, little blue doe?
he blinked in confusion, playing with herself?
he had often done that...wait...
he knew this doe!
a flash to his baby days, she had...had reared at him?
she turned, saw him, and backed away to continue to play.
he crept closer, she moved, closer...away.
The game had begun!
The forest was a mass of giggles and hoof beats, a wild playful dance
and when at last they had exhausted themselves he looked to her.
"My name is Rosine"
He learned that her name was Talla, and that she was normally very shy.
He explained that he was often the same way.
"I'm glad to have met you" his tail flicked.
What a busy day!
